Description

Backpack camping at Site #2 Friday and Saturday nights. It's about 0.9 miles from parking area and about 200' back from the Lake Michigan shoreline. See park map at http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/specific/newport/newport.pdf .

Fire ring, nearby pit toilet and half a dozen good tent sites. Plenty of downed trees for scavenging firewood. Water available inside the ranger station 24/7.

Self-register at the ranger station for camping when you pull in. You'll need a Wisconsin state park parking permit for which you can also self-register at the ranger station.

Cross-country skiing and/or snowshoeing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Candlelight cross-country skiing Saturday night. Park service sets up about 2 miles of luminaries on groomed trail. Beach bonfire.

Novice winter campers welcome providing you have appropriate cold weather gear.
