Description

Annual big backpacking trip. I need a low cost trip after Alaska and I figure I can drive here and the only costs are $4/day park fee, $3.50/day parking fee. $60 each way ferry fee. We can either spend a week on the island (Sat to Sat) or Tues-Sat. The ferry goes to the island every Tuesday at 9am and returns on Saturday at 9am.

This will be a photographic trip. We will hike 8-10 miles a day and take all day to do it, no arriving at camp at 2pm. Plan on lots of stopping for photos, whether it be landscapes, animals, or macro. By no means must you have an SLR to attend this trip or be a pro. Bring your point and shoot, come learn, come share what you know about photography and enjoy it while backpacking.

I picked late September due to the cool weather and after doing some research it can be one of the better times to see the Northen Lights and catch them on film...er disk. Labor Day weekend and the weekend following Labor Day close out the tour season to the island so there will be fewer people as well.
