DescriptionThis is a last minute post for a loop to go to the Mt. Cammerer Fire Tower just off the Appalachian Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We will start and end the hike at Big Creek Ranger Station. Day 1: Hike in via the Big Creek Trail to the Camel Gap Trail running into the AT. Spending the night at Cosby Knob Shelter. The total mileage for the day is 13.3 Note: If you want a shorter mileage day, you can take the Low Gap Trail off of the Big Creek Trail which will cut the mileage down to 8.3 miles for the first day. Day 2: Hike NOBO on the AT from Cosby Knob to the Mt Cammerer Spur Trail, Check out the fire tower, eat lunch, then head on the AT NOBO to the Chestnut Branch Trail which will take us back to the Big Creek Ranger Station. Total mileage for the day 9.4 miles. I currently have reservations for 3 at Cosby Knob for the night of 1/24. Weather forecast for 4700 at Cosby Knob: Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20. Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40.
