trips - Fall '08 Sipsey BushwhackTrip Info
Description11/5/08 Update Updated Google Map of the Area Forecast is wet early on and cold later but the fall color should be fantastic. You've been warned :) Still haven't heard from some of you as to whether you're still planning to come and when you might arrive...please give me a shout. ************************************************************************************************** Alright folks, I've got a destination: Sougahoagdee Falls. While technically not in the Sipsey Wilderness itself, Precision and I hiked here a couple of years ago and the falls are one of the more spectacular in the Bankhead. If I recall correctly, there should be plenty of room on the bank of Brushy Creek near the falls for a group of this size. The falls may not have much flow right now but hopefully that will change if we get some rain over the next few weeks. From November '06: ![]() Down Booties and I will be there Friday morning to hike in and plan to spend the day relaxing around camp and the falls. The plan for Saturday (for those who choose to do so) is to continue upstream to the confluence of Brushy and Collier Creek and then explore the Collier drainage as time allows before returning to basecamp. IMPORTANT: While the route to camp isn't as challenging as that of previous trips, it could be considered strenuous by some who are not accustomed to off trail travel. Please take your experience and any physical limitations into consideration before signing up. If you would like to make arrangements to meet someone at the trailhead to hike in with, shoot me an email and I'll see what I can arrange within the group. Directions: Take CR 63 to Moreland and turn onto 3159 at New Home Baptist Church. Go approximately 3-4 miles (the road turns to gravel after a bit) until you reach the bridge over Brushy Creek. This is a relatively well used spot for hikers and as a canoe takeout and should provide ample parking (hopefully without too much creativity). Once parked, the "trailhead" is on the LEFT side of the creek going UPSTREAM. It is approximately 1.5 miles to the proposed camp and a significant portion of the trail is an old road from days gone by which is a bit grown up but as long as you follow the creek, you should have minimal problems. Safe travels to all and we'll see you at camp!
