trips - Turkeys In A HaystackTrip Info
DescriptionTHIS TRIP IS OFF!!!!! I have things to attend to at home and I'm sorry that I won't get to see my dang-near favoritest place on Earth. Xmas break will see me trekkin' somewhere in West Virginia gettin' some much needed woods time. I am going to stomp along the Roaring Plains in West Virginia in quest of Haystack Knob by way of The Holler Rim Trail. This is a spectacular trail along the four mile long one mile wide and 2,000 foot deep Long Run Holler. Some people call it The Canyon Rim Trail, but this is West Virginia, y'all. This is ONE BIG HOLLER and if the weather permits, the views are fab-dang-ulous. There are three other knobs in the vicinity of Haystack and I intend to visit them all. Haystack: 4,555 No Name: 4,600+ Green: 4,600+ Porte Crayon: 4,770 This is a repeat of a trip from 2005. http://thebackpacker.com/trips/trip/581.php I must work on Sunday the 25th and I will head out to West Virginia the evening of the 21st. Note to self: Bring something bright to wear.
