trips - Red River Gorge Climbing WeekendTrip Info
DescriptionI am thinking of getting a group together for a weekend to do some climbing at Red River Gorge. Rough plan: Park at Martin's Fork and set up base camp. Early rise and snag a good spot at Left Flank... climb, eat, hang out and be lazy in the sun until we have had our fill... then dayhike along the Rough Trail or do the touron thing... tour some of the arches by car (Whistlers Arch, Angel's Window, Silvermine Arch, etc). Dinner at Miguel's. Perhaps climb some more on Sunday (Military Wall this time?) or those that have a long drive just take off Sunday morning. Left Flank has a few 5.8's and at least one 5.9. The one 5.8 is a good beginners route. There are some 5.10+ routes if you are a good climber. I only aspire to these routes but if you are up to the task there will be someone to belay you. All the 5.8's and the 5.9 have bolts. I'll update this page with additional details if there is enough interest. Right now, however, there is a group of punks from the climbing gym I hang out at that want to go. So one way or another I'll be going. I just wanted to make sure to invite fellow TTers. CLIMBING IS DANGEROUS: Climbing is inherently dangerous and the risk of death or serious injury can never be completely eliminated. It is up to each individual to make his or her own choices regarding acceptable risk. By signing up for this trip you acknowledge that you recognize these risks and are prepared to be responsible for your own safety.
