USM is gonna play AL hard. They just missed being nationally ranked last week.
They are by far the best team in MS.

I agree about USM. Heck, there are 3 other teams within Alabama that are better than Bama. I'd hate for us to have to play UAB or Troy this year. Don't yall play UAB this weekend?

For real
I figure after Vandy, MSU will finish 1-10.

SS - did you see the thing I posted a while back where my brother in law, the MSU fan was getting busted by one of his clients for getting beaten by Maine? It was pretty clever.

Well I'll be at the La Tech game this weekend... Arkansas after that...

In fact... I'll be at every home Auburn football game this year!

I'm curious how well our run D will do against that Moats kid. Our run-D is the weakest portion of our D.

Yes yes, I'm trying to forget Maine.
Maine for God's sake.
That game killed us.

That's what my bro in law said. He's just trying to block it out.

Yo Ewker, the first step towards recovery is admitting you’ve got a problem. But you have so many where do you begin?

“I don't think merchandise sales is a good indicator of popularity”

THINK? I don’t think so.

ESPN GAMEDAY appearances by school:
Florida- 20
Michigan- 17
Nebraska- 13
Oklahoma- 13
Notre Dame- 12

In 138 of its 176 games since 1990, Florida has appeared on live network television, including 90 national TV appearances (second best in the nation over the last 13 years).

Nope there’s absolutely no correlation there. It must be blissful living in LALA land.

Violin, you’ll never have standards. Just look at who you root for.

Good lord, stove. I can’t bear to dampen your enthusiasm. I’d really like to see Croom succeed. Vandy? Ouch! It’s gonna be a long haul.

Arky, your boys played well at the end. They’ll sneak up on someone this year. They’ve got a good coach and what should be an improving future.

USC may suck, but they're playing classic chokers from Cal. The SF Chron had a list of big games from the last 50 or so years when either Stanford or Cal were involved. Cal was 0-7 in those games - Oops!

Call me unimpressed with the USC campus and the Rose Bowl when Auburn went there and played them three? or was it two years ago.

Nice looking women though.

I did meet the nike rep for USC when USC came and visited us on the plains. SHE was a hottie!

Good God Almighty, Pickaxe, you gotta free up some love for a poor old Jayhawk fan. I mean, my team is on the verge of beating our cross-state rivals for the first time in eleven years. My hopes are soaring like a falcon in the mountains. In my neighborhood, we are searching for a shred of dignity to hang our season on. Can't you spare a little feeling for a Jayhawk? All of this losing makes us a little caustic, especially to fans of USC. Should we apologize?
Anyway, go Cal.

The Rose Bowl is where UCLA plays. USC plays at the LA Coliseum unless of course if they are playing UCLA.

And the USC campus rules. It's in practically every tv commercial, movie and tv show, so obviously other people are impressed with it. It's not Ivy League or anything, but Spanish in style and I quite like it. There is a bar on campus too. I used up all of my credits for the cafeteria there my freshman year. Little did my mother know.

I can kinda see doom's point, maybe USC doesn't actually "suck," but Stanford sure does, and 'SC barely beat Stanford. If doom's point is that they don't deserve to be #1, then I think it's a fair conclusion, unless you think Stanford is a top 10 team?!

"barely beat"ing another team would be LSU against Oregon State. Win by a field goal in overtime.

I think you guys are making some exaggerations here.

And Stanford clearly does not suck. They have a lot of guts and some interesting tricks up their sleeves. The only thing about em that sucks is that their mascot is a tree.

lol... I was just trying to get some smoke out of your ears Pixie with "utterly preposterous statements" ;)

I found the campus quite nice actually. I've seen better foliage but there are some very cool buildings there if I recollect. I wouldn't want to spend my evenings in the surrounding neighborhoods though. One of the students there was telling me a story about movies filming on location on the campus and how much he hated it. I guess the films take precedence over academics while they are shooting… and his particular tale told of bright lights and megaphones keeping him awake one night before a test. Very funny guy. I wish I could do his tale justice.

They usually film movies in the summer. I've actually never seen them filming.

Surrounding neighborhoods are a little sketchy. I'll give you that. It's sad, because the school was built in 1880 and at the time it was the nicest, richest area in town. There are beautiful Victorian homes around campus, most of which are now slums. Very sad. Back then, Pepperdine was near USC, but they jumped ship and moved their campus to Malibu. But since I graduated the neighborhood is looking better and better.

Hee hee. Harvard Crimson, Alabama Crimson Tide, Tulane Green Wave, Stanford Cardinal....

No, Stanford's mascot is not a tree. There is no official mascot. The tree is the band's mascot. The band is a student-run organization that is sorta semi-officially related to the university. I like the tree, if for no other reason than kids (little kids, that is) who come to the games really like it. Also, it is representative of the university's symbol, which has a redwood tree in it.

Back in my day (wow, over 20 years ago), we actually had an election to select a mascot. Well the vote was split between a few animate things and we got stuck with a color. They probably should have had two elections: first between the cardinal color and something else; then which something else people wanted. There hasn't been a big push to change that - I guess there are more important things to worry about than what your mascot is. BTW, the one I voted for was the gryphons. I think one other choice was the robber barons.

Forgot to mention, doom! I've been reading about the Jayhawks! (Sorry, not football related....) It's a book about Roger Bannister and others chasing the 4-minute mile, and one of the guys was Wes Santee, who was a student at Kansas at the time. Of course, later, Jim Ryun was a Jayhawk too, right?

did you miss the word "practically" ??

Most recently it's on the that back to school phone plan commercial with the kid with his hair stuck in the car window.

Ghoulderman, not only is having a color be a mascot confusing, but the unofficial tree thing... I agree, Stanford needs a real animated thing. Even if it is lame like a beaver or a slug, or like my highschool, a seagull.

BTW, learn something every day. I didn't know "gryphon" was an alternative spelling to "griffin." Cool. That would have been a great mascot. : (

Excuse Ghoulder and I while we degenerate into running.
Yep, Wes was less than a second away on three occasions. He didn't get near the support in his quest for four minutes that Bannister did. Also, Wes never got the "rabbits" that Bannister did. Anyway, he was an amazing runner, who once raced a group of fraternity brothers, I think there were thirteen or more of them, in a race from Tonganoxie to Lawrence. He smoked them.
Yep, Jim Ryun was a Jayhawk. Sure wish he had stuck to running and not gone into politics.
And, don't forget about Billy Mills. These guys inspired me when I was young.

I had never even heard of Santee before this book. Yes, there was a 14-mile race, where Santee ran it all by himself and his frat brothers did it as a relay. BTW, just finished the last chapter (haven't finished the Epilogue yet), which covered the Empire Games mile in Vancouver. Santee had gone to serve his military service with the Marines a month or two before the race. They called him into the commander's office a few weeks before, and he thought they had arranged for him to run in the race (with Bannister and John Landy, the 2 guys who had gone under 4:00 at that time). Instead, they sent him to NY to be a commentator for the TV coverage of the race - he was heartbroken, and was convinced he could have won that race.

One final Jayhawk runner note: I met Ryun several years ago at a race where he made an appearance - strange that a guy that big (6'2" or 6'3"??) could be so good in the mile....

If I knew how to post pics on this-here machine, I wouldn't be living in Kansas. Ya' know?
Anyway, I have seen many of the campuses in California, and Kansas ranks up there with the best of them. I love Pepperdine, sitting atop the hills looking over the Pacific. I love Cal Berkeley. Stanford is a nice campus. UCLA is better than USC, IMHO. However, none of the California campuses get the four seasons, like a real college campus should.
Anyway, you can go to some KU website or other and see more pictures than I could post. Or, stop by sometime.

None of the west coast, west of the Cascades or Rockies get 4 seasons. So I guess that's a matter of taste. Cause that's an awful lot of schools we are talking about.

Architecturally speaking, the entire west coast is younger, more modern. So again, it's about taste. Some people like modern. I personally like the older architecture myself. (Late 1800's to about 1930 or so.) There are some buildings on SC campus I do not like at all.
