Let's see who is popular. I'm going to count anyone with a sticker, tshirt or whatever that has a college on it, (except for any Washington schools or bordering states) and I will see who is popular and who isn't. Anyone want to join in? So far as of yesterday's commute home, I have one Wisconsin Badger fan. And btw I saw a car with Florida plates and no Gator sticker. So apparently even Floridians don't all like em.” 12:47:52 PM 9/30/04 “it prolly had a Seminole logo on it somewhere.” 12:58:03 PM 9/30/04 “LOL! You go Roam!” 1:00:16 PM 9/30/04 UT Fans 1:10:32 PM 9/30/04 UT Fans 1:18:16 PM 9/30/04 ““I still say the personal foul on the Florida player was a good call. The ref even said he told both players to stop it, then the Florida player took a swing at the UT player. Real smart on his part." Ewker Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion, even if they’re the only person in the ENTIRE FREAKIN’ COUNTRY who holds that opinion. "The SEC office's problem is not with the actual call but that the clock did not start at the crank of the officials arm. What killed UF was that the clock didn't start until the snap of the ball. I'm sure Tommy Gallion will get to the bottom of this. Most likely UT would have had one possiblly two less plays." heinz57 Actually, that’s not true. The SEC has a problem with the call as well. We just don’t get to hear about the outcome. "Cha! Yeah right. You need to get around to more of the country arclite if you think that is true. People on the west coast don't give a flying fig about Florida. I have yet to meet a single Florida fan here or when I lived in LA. But I've met tons of Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee even Syracuse fans! You are SOOOO full of yourself." pixie Ahhh, the voice of football knowledge. I’m the football god here pixie, at least until our next contest. God’s are allowed to be full of themselves. Florida merchandise outsells almost every other school. I think Notre Dame, and possibly FSU, outsell Florida. There was an article in the paper about an FSU player from Oregon. He was quoted as saying that all the good players he knew thought that Florida, FSU, and Miami were the most popular schools and that that they all wanted to play for them. Maybe it wasn’t the same when you played football, but you obviously lost your ability to make any sense after your Alzheimer’s kicked in.” 4:07:11 PM 9/30/04 “arclite - I don't think pixie ever played football on the level you are talking about. ;-) (Most teams don't allow girls to play)” 4:16:16 PM 9/30/04 “In this state, fans pull out their purple clothes in fall, and put them away in the winter, when the crimson and blue appears all over the state. BTW, Pixie, I don't understand your popularity poll. If I were to use your criteria in my hometown, the Kansas Jayhawks would be, by far, the most popular team in America. Wow, could that be true?” 4:18:33 PM 9/30/04 “I still say the personal foul on the Florida player was a good call. We just don’t get to hear about the outcome. arclite 04:07:11 PM 09/30/04 your right everyone is entitled to there opinion and in my opinion it was the right call. I am sure you would argue the phantom catch from 2 yrs ago was a good call while everyone else in the ENTIRE FREAKING COUNTRY didn't. You got to hear about it. The SEC said they made a mistake on the clock, not the personal foul. have a good day arclite :)” 4:28:16 PM 9/30/04 “Actually, arc stated that the phantom catch wasn't a catch. He can take off the orange glasses. Can you?” 4:45:16 PM 9/30/04 “sure can dayhiker when I see a bad call. But that wasn't a bad call. If the ref tells you to stop and one does and the other doesn't he gets flagged. That was the case in that foul. You and I both know the one who hits last is always the one to get caught.” 4:48:44 PM 9/30/04 “That's true, but this time the ref was looking at both of them. On to more chipper topics, this weekends UT/AU game should be a good one. I suppose I'm pulling for homestate Auburn, but I suspect UT will win.” 5:13:16 PM 9/30/04 “It would be very interesting to see the entire skirmish and also have some audio without the blaring Neyland crowd. Several folks have said that the ref was warning those guys of their physical play as soon as they left the line of scrimmage. In that case, 99% of the time the flag goes against the offender who commits the foul after the play. Not exactly right or fair but with the amount of intense contact in every play picking and choosing what to call and not call is the difference between a good and bad official. Bottom line it was a tough call. BTW, I have yet to see any info from the SEC Office saying the call should have been offsetting. Anyhow, the fact still remain that it really doesn't matter anymore than the phantom catch. Both games are in the books. Who cares!” 5:15:27 PM 9/30/04 “"Florida merchandise outsells almost every other school." According to who arclite? "I think Notre Dame, and possibly FSU, outsell Florida." Emphasis on "I think." "There was an article in the paper about an FSU player from Oregon. He was quoted as saying that all the good players he knew thought that Florida, FSU, and Miami were the most popular schools and that that they all wanted to play for them." Weak argument. Some quote from some guy from someplace in Oregon said. Big Whoop de doo DA! "Maybe it wasn’t the same when you played football, but you obviously lost your ability to make any sense after your Alzheimer’s kicked in." They don't let 120 pound girls play football. When was the last time you met a 300 pound guy named "Pixie?" Maybe in a drag queen review?” 5:43:02 PM 9/30/04 “pixie is not offically getting the hang of it. Pix - at the end of the year we all have a contest picking bowl games. Sadly, arc won 3 years ago and last year. This is our pentance for being beaten by him at the picks.” 5:45:46 PM 9/30/04 Dunadan “You can't count the state you live in or surrounding states. So I live in Seattle, I won't count Washington, Oregon or Idaho schools. Because otherwise the UW Huskies would be the most popular. Capeesh?” 5:47:02 PM 9/30/04 “Sometimes you have to explain things to our slower brethren.” 5:48:17 PM 9/30/04 Huh? “So whoever wins the picks gets to talk out his butt, claim he's omnipotent and be an overall poophead? Fun contest. (sarcasm.)” 5:52:58 PM 9/30/04 “No, that's just arc's interpretation of the rules. He knows that none of us want to step foot in Florida to do anything about it.” 5:58:26 PM 9/30/04 “If you'll check back a year or so you'll see that I was the kinder, gentler BAMA Football God. A compassionate conservative, if you will.” 5:59:01 PM 9/30/04 “Well, ya know if anyone should be a cocky bass turd, it should be me. But I play nice. My momma raised me better than that. ; ) I just don't think it's ok to run at the mouth slamming others. And if arclite thinks he's being funny, he's not. (You hear that arclite? No one likes it!)” 6:01:56 PM 9/30/04 “You can take the boy out of New Jersey, but you can't the New Jersey out of the boy! It took me about 6 months to warm up to his football persona. We email regularly now. It's like this, don't sweat the small stuff. It's all small stuff.” 6:07:11 PM 9/30/04 LOL “pixie - Don't let arclite's football persona get to you. He's one of the nicest guys to hike and camp with one can find. It's like dayhiker said "you have to 'get' him". SEC football is very rough and tough and if you are gonna survive on this thread, you will have to be rough and tough too. Another thing to remember is very few nonSEC teams are ever given any respect by any SEC supporter. That includes me, the supporter of the last place SEC team. ;-) dayhiker - I didn't realize arclite was a Jersy Boy. Explains a lot, lol.” 6:28:42 PM 9/30/04 “psu is annoying me. i'll root for mi this year.” 6:29:58 PM 9/30/04 “Yes, Pixie, one of the perks of being the current Football God, is that you can say whatever you want, whenever you want, to whomever you want to say it. I hope you take a shot at becoming a deity when bowl time comes around. It's fun. And, this year, the crown will go to the Jayhawk Fan, who will rename nameless. He will rule with grace and compassion, but will stomp like a rotten grape anyone who would suggest that there is any teams in the state of Missouri. (Pronounced "Misery".) Hang in there. You will develop a taste for the generous helpings of Arclite Stew. And, believe me, he's gonna stew a LOT this season.” 7:30:39 PM 9/30/04 “'rename' should read 'remain' (Why I'm worried about spelling on a football thread, I don't know.)” 11:44:16 PM 9/30/04 “As dayhiker mentioned previously, I believe, if the ref had anything to say to either player before the flag, it must have occurred within one nano-second. The replay shows the ref running in from a distance where his voice would not have been audible to a player with a helmet in a very loud stadium. The Tennessee player hit the Florida player in the facemask. The ref is running in, about ten yards away, when the Florida player retaliated. The head of SEC officials said it was a bad call, The CBS announcers talked about CALLS (as in plural) during the game ESPN talked about CALLS (as in plural) after the game SEC head of officials, Bobby Gaston talked about CALLS as in plural after the game. USA Today had an article about CALLS as in plural after the game. Kentucky coach Rich Brooks talked about bad CALLS as in plural http://www.gatorsports.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040922/GATORS01/209220326&SearchID=73185524001171 South Carolina coach Lou Holtz talked about it http://www.gatorsports.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040923/GATORS01/40923001&SearchID=73185524084875 I’ll bet that Sports Illustrated comes out with a piece. Folks can talk about the PF as being a good call or that there was only one bad call, but they look like fools for doing so. But who am I to keep people from looking like fools? Geez, on this thread, I practically wrote the book on it. Well pixie, the merchandising statistics are public record. I forget exactly where I read that stat but it may have been in the Florida Football Yearbook. The University Athletic Association is private organization and keeps accurate records on the sale of merchandise. Florida has been one of the most televised teams in the country for at least ten years. And I’ve already posted the fact that ESPN gameday has been on Florida’s campus more than any other. That sure is a stronger argument than anything you’ve been able to show. And I’ll take the word of an actual football player over an Alzheimers inflicted cheerleader any day. Pixie not only doesn’t get it, pixie wouldn’t stand a chance in the contest. Logical observation and facts trump emotional nonsense when it comes to understanding football. In fact, pixie, buddha, nigal (who’s just jealous that I actually HAVE one), violin, and Ewker, are all afraid to show their ignorance. Trailhound can be forgiven because he’s a Jawja fan. I don’t expect much from him. Everybody knows Jawja always chokes anyway. I’m not only a god, dayhiker, but at 6’1” and 210 I might-could still play linebacker. I was nuts when we were State 3-A champs, but I’ve mellowed considerably. Hey stovestomper (wanna take another shot at kayaking Juniper this year?), you couldn’t tell where I was from by the way I speak could you? I never had much of an accent, but I can always muster up the NJ/NY attitude when it suites my purpose. You sure are right. It’s all about rough and tumble, just like the SEC. Some people don’t like it but that’s not my problem. I’m glad that there are a few who at least understand it. Some people don’t like Monty Python’s Flying Circus or Don Rickles. It’s a matter of personal choice and not a popularity contest. BTW Arky, I wish you and your team well. I met some Ark fans at our SEC Championship game a few years back. They were nice, laid back, but very passionate about their team. It should be a good one. We're going camping. Chances are I'll miss seeing the games this weekend. I won't be back until Tuesday. Try not to miss me too much.” 6:26:49 AM 10/01/04 “Wow, didn't expect arc to take the Glory Dayz tack. Well, I'm 6'-8" and 450 pounds and back in my day won a state championship. I wonder if that could be because only about 68 people in the whole state of Jeresy play football?” 7:04:34 AM 10/01/04 “Some thoughts & questions: Dunadan as football god? He would make a good one but I've seen his skills & he has none. Arc, I just hope you guys don't beat us by 4 td's. Dayhiker, did you play OL in high school? Why are Chili & Cocoa sooooo quiet?” 8:39:30 AM 10/01/04 “Yes, I was on the Donte Ellington workout program. Non Bama fans might not remember Donte.” 8:42:28 AM 10/01/04 “Kayaking Juniper this year? - arclite He11 Yea! All I can say about football is come October 23, Florida will be upset by the mighty DAWGS, and BAMA is next Nov. 6!” 8:46:35 AM 10/01/04 “My birthday preset will be Bama defeating UT in Knoxville. The game is on my b'day and I'm looking for a huge day.” 8:50:10 AM 10/01/04 “Now, now, Arky. Your jealousy of the Jayhawks is beginning to show. Just because we know the proper way to pronounce Kansas, (hint, it isn't Kansaw), doesn't mean you have to get testy with me. It must be hard not knowing whether your team is going to win each Saturday. See, with my team, I live in the security of knowing that the loss is IN THE BANK! (Is is basketball season yet?) Anyway, after all the defamation this season, I'm taking off the kid gloves and taking my rightful position of Football God. Tremble in fear, you SEC wussies.” 8:51:11 AM 10/01/04 Popularity contest day 2 “Got 2 Michigan sitings and 1 each for Duke, North Dakota State, Colorado and Illinois.” 3:31:45 PM 10/01/04 “Let's see.... Today I saw one Raiders, another Raiders, then two more Raiders stickers, then one more, then one partly torn off Raiders, then three more Raiders in a row... Hey, no college stickers so far today!” 3:59:19 PM 10/01/04 “arclite, out of all of your ranting and raving you did manage get to one part right. You do look like a fool.” 4:06:18 PM 10/01/04 GhoulderMan “Can't count what's in your state anyhow. Sorry. Otherwise of all schools (no team though) Western Washington University would have won yesterday. And I was hanging out a couple miles from the UW campus! Go figure. I'm still waiting for arclite to back up any of his claims with actual articles or statistics. And the purchase of merchandise doesn't count. Maybe the folks from his school just like stocking their wardrobe with Florida gear. I don't think merchandise sales is a good indicator of popularity.” 4:15:45 PM 10/01/04 “Well, now that I understand the rules, I would have to say, hands down, there is more Notre Dame t-shirts and sweatshirts around here than any others. We also have Haskell Indian Nations University in town. Many of the Indians in town wear Oklahoma paraphernalia. So, Oklahoma comes in second.” 4:24:23 PM 10/01/04 Amazing but true: “arclite was so abrasive, obnoxious and rude that we made him leave the great Garden State. Even we have standards. He’s just lucky he’s not part of a bridge or landfill.” 4:30:51 PM 10/01/04 “Here's the winners for tomorrow, you chumps. Read 'em all cause there are some upsets in this list. 1. West Virginia wins at Va Tech 2. North Carolina loses at Fla St 3. Arkansas loses by three points at Florida 4. Wake loses at N.C. St 5. Rutgers wins at Syracuse 6. Tex Tech loses at Oklahoma and the score is astronomical 7. Baylor loses at Texas ho-hum 8. Illinois loses at Wisconsin snore 9. Iowa State loses a close one at Oklahoma St 10. Purdue loses to Touchdown Jesus and Notre Dame 11. LSU loses at Georgia, but Georgia will be holding on for dear life 12. Miami wins at Ga Tech 13. Cal whips the Beaver 14. Kansas State wins at Texas A&M 15. Auburn loses at Tennessee 16. Penn St loses at Minn 17. Luckeyes get lucky again at Northwestern 18. Arizona St loses at Oregon Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets.” 4:40:49 PM 10/01/04 “Hey, you didn't mention that critical Husky-Cardinal matchup!” 4:42:22 PM 10/01/04 “Just for you, Bowlder. The Cardinal will still be looking bright red and avoid any dog pee that might stain them. How's that?” 4:44:25 PM 10/01/04 “Wow, so we'll finally break that 6-game streak, huh?” 4:48:58 PM 10/01/04 Pixie's Pac-10 input “The Huskies are so bad this year, they will definitely lose and badly. And don't forget the Beaves almost beat LSU. They put up a really good fight. So if Stanford isn't playing like they did last week, they better watch out. Besides, don't you know? Beavers chew up trees and spit em out. Go Beavers!!! Should be an exciting game.” 4:55:54 PM 10/01/04 Woops! “I'm confused. Maybe arclite has a point about alzheimers setting in on me. (Not!) Cal is playing the Beavers. But it should still be interesting. At least I hope it is. I like exciting games.” 4:58:35 PM 10/01/04 “Hey Pixie, you might want to read throught the baseball thread.” 4:59:10 PM 10/01/04 “I sure hope Cal licks those, uh, nevermind, I hope Cal wins.” 4:59:47 PM 10/01/04 The Baseball thread? “Oooooo-kaaaay.” 5:03:17 PM 10/01/04 “You didn't take my advice, did you, Pickaxe. There's something there that will interest you.” 5:06:56 PM 10/01/04 “I don't think there is a baseball one. There is a football one. We have an annual pic'em contest come tourney time.” 5:07:25 PM 10/01/04 Jump to Page << prev
