WR U again
James Banks is most likely out for the entire year with a knee injury. Although he is definitely a playmaker, he was only going to see limited time at receiver after several young freshmen and sophomores took his place. He was practicing in the defensive backfield. Well see if the young receivers live up to the preseason hype.

Ouch, hate to hear that about the injury. I had just seen a headline and didn't read the article.

Actually this may save Bank’s collegiate and perhaps pro career. Hopefully a medical red#&%!$ will give him a chance to get his head on straight and continue to develop with a focus at WR and/or FS. This kid has been a hair shy of being kicked off the team twice now.

Let's see, my teams are State Penn, Army, and Virginia. Of the three, Virginia has the best team, but is probably over-ranked. Army is ranked third from the bottom. Am I excited? Yeah, sure, I'm just a bundle of anticipation. I can hardly stand it.

Army, gosh, if we win just one game it will be 100 percent improvement over last year. Now that's so freaking exciting I can hardly get to sleep at night. Makes me want to dress up in black and gold and do back flips.

Hell, at UT we don't even know who will be throwing the ball, much less who will be catching it.

My prediction is that it will be Brent Schaeffer (Vick in an orange jersey). However, Erik Ainge will most likely take over after every second or third series. IMHO who ever doesn't start has the advantage. BTW, a little history, this will be the first Freshman QB starter in the SEC since Georgia's John Rauch in 1945. That alone should testify to the tough competitiveness of this conference.

Does that mean at UT you don't know which ones pitch and which ones catch? Must make for an interesting locker room setting

Looks like Frances will postpone college football for the state of Florida. That's certainly good news for the Vols.

Funny how the tide fans always migrate into a locker room fantasy.

I guess what goes on in there is more interesting that what happens on the field anyway.

Clarification....
To a Bama fan, what happens in the locker room is more intersting.

Thanks cocoa, you’re a real man. I already made my picks and I wish I had your input before that. Picking against the spread is difficult, but good preparation for the Main Event at the end of the year.

Nigal, you snuck that puppy in there and had me laughing pretty good this morning.

"Looks like Frances will postpone college football for the state of Florida. That's certainly good news for the Vols."

You’re absolutely spot on with that call, hound. My weekend is changed. Instead of going to the game, I’ll be huddled in my house hoping the roof doesn’t blow off. Well, Charlie was supposed to come right over G’ville and didn’t. Here’s hoping that the projected path (right over G’ville) of Frances changes as well.

Florida has a young secondary; the D needs blitzing reps. MTS has a wide open passing offense. The practice sure would have helped. And Tennessee needs all the help they can get.

THE FIRST MAJOR WEEKEND OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!

If my TV goes out, I’m gonna be really depressed. Let the roof fly away. Let the walls fall. Let the windows shatter. But if I miss college football it’s gonna really suck.

If I survive, I'll probably see y'all Tuesday.

Well, football got off to a wonderful start last night. fRAN got that a$$ spanked on national TV by Utah.

Two of my favorite comments from the play by play guys were:

With about 14:50 to go in the 3rd, TAMU is punting. As the guy trots on the field you hear, "He's been busy tonight."

About 8:00 to go in the 3rd, Utah is punting. As the guy trots on the field you hear, "This is Utah's first punt of the night."

Ahhh, music to my ears.

did I say oregan state? I must have been hypoxic from my bike ride.

it was Washington State. Fun game. Over 34,000 on hand. Scoreless first half with some good plays and a missed FG by the lobos. This sums it up.

Washington State's comeback negated a sterling one-two punch by New Mexico halfback DonTrell Moore and wide receiver Hank Baskett. Moore scored on a 61-yard run and rushed for 167 yards on 24 carries, the most by a running back against WSU since former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett had 230 yards in 2002.

Baskett caught nine passes for 165 yards, but it wasn't enough.

"It was disappointing after the way we had played," Baskett said. "Mistakes [interceptions, blocked punt, way to many dropped passes and a fumble] just got us tonight."

I'm on pins and needles awaiting the beginning of Rutgers best season ever (I hope). My seats are on the 50 yard line. Look for the doofus with a red t-shirt on ABC Sports.

I'm calling Rutgers by 10+.

Jayhawks and the Golden Hurricane are tied at half 3-3. This better get better in the second half or this season gets off to a disastrous beginning. However, the positive note so far is that KU's kicker put a 51 yarder perfectly through the uprights just before half.
Rock Chalk!
Path, I'm sorry to hear about the Lobos. I was watching the game at my favorite watering hole and thinking of you. NM seemed to have the game well in hand when I left, so I thought you would be celebrating.

What a great weekend for Rutgers.

I haven't seen a crowd (there) so pumped up in a long, long time.

It was moving to see the several thousand fans flooding the field after the game ended. No way could security stop that one.

My only complaint was: how could the ref not at least call a penalty when your fullback gets knocked out cold by a sucker punch after the play was over? That #&%!$er should have been ejected from the game. I guess winning is the best revenge.

Bama v. Ole Miss this weekend will answer a good many questions about both teams. We had our scrimmage and now it's time to play for real.

How about LSU. We may have a new group of Luckeyes for 2004.

I just read that Rutgers actually got a vote as #25 in the AP poll.

Weird.

I'd be a little careful about disrespecting our coach if I were you, Phaedrus. I don't know if you also saw Tony Soprano milling about the sidelines or not. This is New Jersey's team here... if you catch my drift.

I drove out to Lincoln, Nebraska to watch my Western Illinois Leathernecks get paid a handsome sum to get shelled by the 'Huskers. 77,500 people in Husker red and maybe 200 in 'Neck purple & gold. WIU opens against a Division I school each year and generally plays well and sometimes wins, but Nebraska was toooooo much this time.

LSU sucks
And it just goes to show who the real national champions are!

They played so badly against OSU, who are one of the weakest teams in the Pac 10. If that's what the other divisions call their best, then the Pac 10 as a whole are in for a great season.

Go Trojans! Fight On!

LSU did look bad. That's the difference between a 5th year sr and a RS Freshman which is what you saw on Sat.

Also, that was last year. LSU is a different team this year. Some folks aren't even picking them to win their division this year.

Finally, you're gloating based on USC's performace in the opener?

LSU's QB is going to have to grow up quick. They have a tough early schedule.
