“I'm basing the comment on seeing your band uniforms NOW. They are several shades darker than you football unis. I then see your football unis from the 60's when SOS was your savior the first time and I connect the dots.

I'll write it very simple so that an architect can understand.

1. Old footage showing your orange and blue uni's being much darker than they are now. Note I say orange and blue. I've never called them anything but orange and blue, just that they are darker.

2. Modern footage showing the band in uni's that are basically the same color.

Conclusion: Maybe the football uniforms have changed over time!”

Bama's uniforms are still ugly, and NOTHING will make up for that. ESPN doesn't want them on TV. Your "tradition" is the only thing you have now that you, and your team, are becoming incontinent.

Pixie, compared to Princeton (17 championships), Yale (18 championships), Harvard (9 championships), and Army, USC IS a Johnny-come-lately. Any idea which two teams played the first college football game? Violin?

At least Michigan won a mythical national championship in 1901 (tied with Harvard). That’s still 30 years after Princeton captured the first title. Alabama won its first title in 1926. It tied with Dartmouth. USC won in 1931, long after Penn, Chicago, Cornell, Pittsburgh, Ga Tech, Illinois, California, and Stanford had all won championships. Doesn’t it just give you goose bumps thinking about all the football “tradition” at those schools? Notre Dame didn’t win until 1924.

That pretty much sums up the ridiculous idea of “tradition is best.” Who cares about Princeton’s, Yale’s, Harvard’s, or Rutger’s “tradition” except for people who live in the past. Gosh, let’s bring back steam powered cars for “traditional” environmental reasons.

My obnoxious shtick is my way of not taking the angry insanity, that I see in some fans and sports pundits, so seriously. The sports pundits (writers and TV) especially, stir the emotional pot just to sell their product. And many people buy it. So take this, you humorless USC theater major:


As a SEC fan, I am SO embarrassed. The VT/USC officiating wasn’t as absolutely pathetic as what the ACC officials did to Florida against FSU last year, but it was bad. I started to wonder whether the SEC pays their officials enough that they feel a need to moonlight by taking extra cash to fix games. One call in particular was pathetically obvious. That phantom pass interference penalty against VT. The announcers talked about it the rest of the game, and with good reason. What a pathetic call!!! That penalty changed the whole momentum of the game.

If USC is the best team in college football, we’re in for a mediocre season. Granted it was a first game, but they were not dominant against an unranked team that came to play. Maybe USC will make the chumpionship game this year because of a weak schedule. They may win with speed but USC won’t overpower anyone. The announcers kept talking about one 270lb lineman for USC. 270LBS!!! You’re not going to overpower anyone with anorexic midgets on your O-line.

Let’s hope they’re not in the Rose Bowl against Michigan. Sure they can beat Michigan, that’s easy, but watching that game Saturday reminded me why I hardly ever watch the Rose Bowl, especially when it’s USC against Michigan. It turns into a bad concert.

I want to watch a football game, and instead get a battle of the bands. It’s so annoying to me that I usually have to turn the game off and watch reruns of Three’s Company instead.

Nigal, I may be bragging, but I think I’ve out-obnoxioused many sports fans/writers that I’ve ever seen or read. I run reeeeeelly close to the edge of not even being worthy of responding to some times. It’s an Internet thing, and a northeastern humor thing. Being from the Midwest, you have no sense of humor other than slapstick or cow tipping.

WHY DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS EVERY YEAR?

I have read so much bilious trash about Steve Spurrier over the years that I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears. And many of you seemed to buy into it without ever having a shred of first hand knowledge. NOW THAT’S OBNOXIOUS. Every year I hear pundits confidently making statements about their perception of reality that rarely, if ever, are true. NOW THAT’S OBNOXIOUS. Every year I read (and have experienced) fan violence between people who don’t know the difference between a game and real life. NOW THAT’S DANGEROUSLY OBNOXIOUS.

Then I hear many of y’all espousing football passion and ignoring our annual football contest. I understand violin doing that because he’s so afraid to lose at anything that his butt whistles when he walks. But for some of you others, IT'S JUST OBNOXIOUS.

Pixie, in my opinion, Mikey, and USC, got ripped off. He didn’t even decide to go pro until the courts gave hope to one of those thugs from Ohio St (I forget his name). He would have stayed if not for the initial court decision. I think he got a bum deal.


Kudos to Tennessee fans. They organized charity drives to help the folks caught in Hurricane Charlie. Very classy!!!

“I'll be rooting for Rutgers this weekend. They weren't quite good enough to take out Mich. St. last year, but they looked pretty good. The spread is six, Rutgers may be a program on the rise.

I'm not sure which three teams I'll be betting (just for fun) on this week. My thought is that teams generally do not cover large spreads early in the season. I doubt that Florida will cover this week.

I'm looking at taking La. Munroe and 38.5. I believe that Auburn will look to establish its running game. That will burn time and keep the score lower. What do you think cocoa?

I'd love to bet Bowling Green to cover 32.5 but Oklahoma (and Nebraska) always seem to run up the score on their chump-of-the-week opponents. White looked awful in his last two games. So they may come out trying to establish the pass this year.

Texas A&M getting 10 from Utah? Anyone have any thoughts on that one?

Central Florida getting 23.5 from Wisconsin looks like a possibility. Anyone know how Wisconsin will look this year?

Kent St. getting 29 from Iowa scares me. Iowa looked very good, and very balanced, against the GATORS last year. Anyone have any ideas about Iowa?

Pitt getting 1.5 from S. Florida and Washington giving 3.5 to Fresno St. look interesting. Any feedback?”

“I hope Utah blasts A&M. I'm pulling against A&M more than any other school out there. Actually, I'm pulling against fRAN more than anything. I hope the Utes shell'em.

Last year Auburn had to do all sorts of crazy things not to run up the score on La. Monroe and that's with their lame duck OC. The new OC will probably be out to tweak his offense.

Bama's a big favorite in their game. I just hope we don't have any injuries. The Thin Red Line isn't just a movie anymore.”

“Wisconsin looks to be tough again this year arclite. I do not believe they lost many players and I want to say they have a strong class coming in.

Iowa was a real surprise last year. I don't think anyone picked them going to a bowl game. It all depends if the QB that started last year is still with them. I think he was a senior, but not sure.”

The excitement from last season has carried over in Memphis. Virtually the entire offensive team is back at the U of Memphis and the opener against Old GrandMiss should be the tale of the tape.

In the last four years, I remember two highly publicized recruits that Florida backed off of because of questionable behavior. One went to Tennessee, the other to Ohio St. Sorry boys, as much as I respect (and like) Tennessee, I'm not kidding this time.



Too bad that the Leak brothers won't be duking it out at Neyland this year. But I really don't think it would have helped the vols anyway.

“Any game is a good one when you throw the spread in there.

After watching auburn lay 72 on La monroe last year Id have a tough time picking them. However, their reciever was playing QB that day and Auburn blocked three punts. I think AU will put up 50 pts, but a backdoor cover isn't out of the question.

Other games:

I like T A&M getting 9.5. I really like utah and don't like Fran, but i think it should be a good game. Watch out for Utah RB Marty Johnson, roller coaster career w/ the Utes, but he's big and good. Was leading the NCAA in rushing 2 years ago before he blew his knee.

UTEP has lots of returning players this year and a good coach (Insert favorite joke here). I think they cover 25.5


Cincy should hang w/ Ohio st. I'll take the 17 points.

I think the Oregon ST/LSU game will be similar to the USC/VT game except LSU will not have to come back to win. I think OSU will score some points

We'll see what the scarlett knights have, getting 6.5 at home sounds good to me.

Fresno St should be pretty good this year and Washington is on the slide, wrong team favored. Fresno +3.5

Purdue has no defense, Syracuse should score enough to cover 12.5

Ahh, Mia/FSU what a way to start the season. This should be the seminoles year to beat Mia, as long as the weather isn't as bad as last year.

Vandy may go bowling this year, could win this one outright, but too +4 is too close for me in this one.

I don't have any money to play around w/ so I do it for fun, I use wagerline.com. Can pick all games against the spread and it keeps up w/ it for you. Check it out if you like playing the spread.
