Go Blue
Where is the strangest place you've ever watched a football game?

Papbull and I were out gear shopping (bought him a new tent for his bday) south of Ann Arbor (home of UofM). We had to make a quick stop for some electrical stuff at Home Depot. When we pulled into the parking lot, there was 3.5 minutes left in the game and a one touchdown difference. We walked (very very fast) in and through HD to get our stuff and as we walked up to the registers, noticed a 27" color TV was set up and a couple people milling about it. So, we ended up standing there for the rest of the game. By the end, there were no less than a dozen customers and 4 employees hooting and hollerin' for UofM! Very fun!

Hokies
thanks violin ( where do you find this stuff?)

My son called me from VaTech at 12:30 AM delirious about the beat-down they put on the Canes. Boy, they lost composure at the end. Pampered thugs. (Tech has 'em too of course).

What a fun season this is shaping up to be.

I hope the Hokies can play Oklahoma, but think it'll be USC.

Watch out for Ohio State! Just like their fans, they like to sneak up on ya from behind.

It's Sunday, and I'm feeling the spirit move me. Or maybe that feeling comes from reading violin's posts. They seem to have the same effect as prunes.

In the beginning was the darkness. And it was both black and red. Black as dawg offal and red as the blood that the evil Jawjamites had torn from the pure hearts of the good people of The Gator Nation. The Jawjamites so reveled in their evil domination of The Gators that their school-spiritual leaders, know to the Jawjamites as bubbas, proclaimed, “Low, we shall worship the bulldog idol for its ugly appearance matches our evil souls.”

And the Jawjamites did consume much beer and cavort. They performed Jawjamy upon small animals, as was their custom. The stench of whiskey was foul upon their breath as they rained bottles, assorted debris, and most foul language upon the good people of The Gator Nation. And The Gators did tremble before their dangerous and obnoxious behavior.

The good people of The Gator Nation did cry unto God and said, “Lord, see how this ugly bulldog doth poopeth in our place of worship called The Gator Bowl, in thy most holy state of Florida. And see then how the Jawjamites do try to rub our noses in it. If you deliver us from the evil Jawjamites, we shall rename our place of worship in your honor. Oh, all-telling Lord.” So God sent an angel unto the good people of The Gator Nation. His name was Spurrier, and he was righteous.

The angel Spurrier said unto The Gator Nation, “I will build a legacy that shall endure in the hearts of all Gators. I shall smite thine enemy and turn the Jawjamites into pillars of asphalt. As it is on the streets of their heathen city, Hotlanta, they will be unable to prevent you from driving on them. They will become as familiar with sorrow as with gridlock, and they will be unable to drive late in the day. They will turn cold and crack under pressure. They shall turn soft ‘cause y’all are hot.”

The Gator Nation did rejoice as the angel Spurrier made them strong and gave them the blessing of Kung Fu. With the help of the angel Spurrier, the once downtrodden Gator Nation did smite the Jawjamites not once, but eleven times in twelve long years. The angel Spurrier did then return to the ether from which he had come, but the yearly smiting continued into the time of the mighty Gator general Zooker.

The Jawjamites did indulge in much wailing and gnashing of teeth. They cried why? Why, ol’ bulldog have you let us suffer like this?” Then God’s voice did speak through their ugly bulldog idol and said unto them, “As ye sew, so shall ye reap! You shall pay for the wretched excesses of the evil Jawjamite bubbas who came before y’all.”

And thus was restored order to the universe. And thus were restored truth, justice, and the American way.

Chili's Catch-Up Post
Oklahoma is ranked #1, but hasn't played anybody worth a salt all season. (except for maybe Texas) They play basically nobody for the next three weeks.

USC is ranked #2, and have beaten 3 good teams, and lost to a mediocre team. They have a cakewalk to the bowls (except for UCLA)

Free Shoes University is ranked #3, they have played only 4 teams with winning records, and lost to the best of them (Miami). They have to play 3 of thier toughest matches in the next three weeks.

LSU is ranked #4. they have played 5 winning teams, and lost to one of them. they have a tough schedule for the remainder of the season.

Va. Tech is ranked #5, and is the most over-rated team in the top ten. They have played only 2 teams with a winning record that are worth a salt, and lost to a crummy team at home. They have a moderate scedule for the remainder of the year, but won't be able to avoid another loss or two.

Ohio State is ranked #6. They are the defending national champs. Besides producing the best defense in the country, they have played 5 teams with winning records, and 5 teams that were nationally ranked, losing one game. The remained of the season is against 3 top 15 teams. if the Buckeyes win out, they definatley should be in the National Championship game. If not, the BCS is complete #&%!$.

Miami is ranked #7. they have played 3 winning teams and 3 ranked teams, losing to one. They have a tough scedule ahaead, and if they win out, should be ranked #3.

Michigan is ranked #8. They have 2 losses, and will not be a factor after thier 3rd loss on 11/22.

The rest of the pack has two losses, or are undefeated and have a total cake schedule.

November is for contenders. Fasten your seatbelts everybody!

I'm with chili...w/o a playoff we just don't know.

Just because Ohio State is defending champs and play more ranked teams doesn't mean diddly. VaTEch may have played fewer ranked teams but they sure spanked the bejesus outta Miami.

And VaTech lost in Morgantown, not at home BB.

Poor Geobeet...

For those of you not in the know, UAB is the Uni of Alabama in Birmingham. It's an extension school. They only got their football team a few years ago.

Ooops, sorry about the Va. Tech mess up JO. They rioted at home!

And, I'll beg to differ with you about playing ranked teams. The more quality teams you play, and defeat, the better your team actually is. For example:

Which team is better?
Team A, who beats Rutgers (4-4) 48-22?

or...

Team B, who beats Bowling Green (7-1) 24-17?
Buddha Bear
10:45:47 AM
11/03/03

BB, that is not an entirely accurate analysis.

Who is better, the team that beats 7-1 Northern Illinois or the team that beats 6-2 Georgia?

There are actually two undefeated teams in Football. Can we say the team that beats the Horned Frogs is in better than the one who defeats Ohio State, Georgia, Nebraska, Texas....etc, etc, etc???

Wait just a dog-gone minute there, Buddha. I loved the fact that Miami lost big-time. Anything that shakes up that stupid BCS is a good thing.

But things will never change unless that dinosaur conference that has 11 teams, but a ten in their title (obviously mathematically challenged people), has a league playoff. The big ten is a bunch of stodgey old, three yards and a cloud of dust, dinosaurs who like things just the way they are. They were behind the times ten years ago. Booooooring.

Using your statistical analysis, if you win, you can say Bama is twice as good as State.

If you lose, you can say Bama is just as good as State.

Sounds sort of like win/win to me.

I have a lunch bet with a client. He's a State grad. We both agreed that we HAD to pick our own teams.
