I do have to admit...watching him perform the "Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk" chant on the banks of the Hurricane Creek was a little spooky.

Memories
Yeah.....probably so. What a stupid mess. Greed is ruining sports.

I was at a WVU-VaTech game a couple of years ago. We had Tech beat and pinned back on their 30 yd line w/ 37 seconds. Michael Vick scrambled out of several tackles and got down to the 5 or 10. They kick a FG and win. I was sitting w/ Tech fans who had already bought tix for New Orleans. They $hittin brix.

I'll miss that kind of rivalry if they bolt to the ACC.

With the further distinction of having a new offense by implemented by the coach who never saw the field during his tenure.

Update from you College Footbal National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes:

Star tailback and Heisman candidate Maurice Clarett has been working all winter and spring on his breakaway speed. He's lost 10 lbs., and focused on upgrading his quickness to go along with his pounding style of running.

See ya in New Orleans.

chili, could you translate. I'm not following your comment. Maybe it's just UT logic and above my inferior Alabama intellect......

Clarett might weigh 10#'s less, but his ego has also doubled. He might play in 5 games this year. He's going to be like Kelly Washington and have a case of the agent flu.

I did some of my growing up around Louisville. Go Cards.

Ohio State has to travel to Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan this year. But looking at what they have returning, they very well could be looking at a repeat.

I gotcha. The Sonny and Wimp show was talking about the lawsuit he has against SI. He says that 7 of the allegations are false. Sonny came back that unless 12 - 15 were false he doesn't need to worry about it. I thought that was pretty funny.

Sierrapacktrip, don't take this the wrong way but we didn't know they played football on the west coast anymore.

Old Man BCS wont let west into "the club"
oh my gosh...a west coast football slam...that's original!

Come on Arky, who do you follow? And how many of your teams players are FROM the west coast? The reason why teams from the east tend to be better year in year out has a lot to do with the fact that all the west coast talent wants to play for a BCS team. The BCS is biased, so of course the west coast only has one BCS conference. So where does the talent over here go more than 50% of the time? To your east schools...

So I'm sure you're probably at least a little worried because you know the stupid BCS's days are numbered and so is the Midwest and East Coast conferences' "dominance" :-)

I'll let the insecurity slide, just this once. ;-)

Hey sierrapacktrip! Saw your 'dogs in the Silicon Valley Bowl a couple years ago (in person!). My wife's MSU Spartans put a whuppin' on them - Ha! But it was a fun game to watch in a great place to watch a football game - were you there?

Martyb:

Yeah, I was there. David Carr almost mounted a comeback in the 4th but fell short. It was a great game though.
Last year's SVC was better IMO. Freshman QB Paul Pinegar, all the injuries and disqualifieds on defense and the Bulldogs STILL kicked the crap out of Tech!

I heard Jeff Smoker might be coming back for you guys...true?
sierrapacktrip

Smoker is listed on the depth chart, but I haven't followed football much lately. My boys (Stanford) are still playin' baseball, for gosh sakes!

One of the best things about that FSU-MSU game was the weather. I remember how it just poured and poured the week or so leading up to the game - then there I was getting sunburned in a short sleeve T-shirt during the game!

FSU Bulldogs Schedule
Fresno has the toughest schedule in the country this upcoming year. People said they couldn't do it before and in 2001 they beat Wisconsin, Colorado, Colorado St, Oregon St. Last year even with injuries they still beat Colorado State and Georgia Tech. Fresno keeps loading up on tough OOC schedules and they "upset" teams all the time. So I challenge anyone who says that they "have no chance" of making a run this season.

-2003 OPPONENTS OF NOTE-
at Tennessee
vs Oregon St
at Oklahoma
at Colorado St
at Hawaii
vs Boise St

Suddenly, Lobos Receiving Respect

By Greg Archuleta
Journal Staff Writer
A noticeable change has developed in the relationship between the University of New Mexico and the various preseason college football annual magazines.
Oh, sure, the Lobos still say they don't pay much attention to the magazines. But suddenly, those publications seem to be paying a lot more attention to them.
College Football News (collegefootballnews.com) has proclaimed 2003 the year of the Lobo in the Mountain West Conference, projecting UNM first in the eight-team league.
The Sporting News, Athlon Sports, Lindy's and Phil Steele's forecast the Lobos to duplicate their 2002 feat and finish runner-up to Colorado State.
Street and Smith's has UNM third behind CSU and Air Force.
The Lobos are divided on whether their newfound fame is good or bad.

Hey, last season was better than most in Lobo football land, and that was with a terrible 2-4 start. The best news is that the team has steadily improved year to year under Rocky Long.

The only reason the SEC is the most penalized is because the SWC no longer exists. 4 of the SWC teams, I believe, are in your beloved Big 12. Those 4 go along nicely with the proud history of Tom Osbourne and Barry Switzer.
dayhiker

Pathman:
Fair enough, but I think the Lobos should just stick to what they do best...basketball. They may have one or two flash-in-the-pan seasons of football, but their program will still never truely take off like I think you think it will.

You know, it still puzzels me how they got into the MWC along with SDSU instead of some other teams when the WAC split. The MWC has to be kicking themselves for making that move. It was supposed to be a "super conference" formed out of the WAC...only now the WAC and MWC are pretty much equal in just about every respect! ;-)

Stove - I'm not sure I agree about the Bulldogs. Georgia lost alot of talent and plus you have the scandal about saleing the rings. That can't be good karma for the team. Good luck to the Dawgs, but it'll be tough for them to repeat as champs.

Let's look at the other teams in the Eastern Div.

Florida - Zook had a good recruiting year, but he can't coach. I'm starting to wonder if Zook and Dubose are synonomous with one another. He'll last another year or two and that's it.

UT - Maybe on the upswing. If anyone can not let a little thing like your starting CB raping a 16 year old in a college dorm, it's Phil Fulmer. UT should be on the upswing if the Ice Man is healthy. They'll win the East.
