Among football fans outside the state the Mobile Register has the reputation of being a homer paper.

Most of the Alabama papers slam Bama harder that the outsiders do. The only paper that seems to be somewhat objective is actually the Tuscaloosa News. The editor calls them like he sees them. That's the only paper I read for Bama news. The rest all seem like they have an axe to grind on one side of the fence or the other.

Many consider this to be one of the greatest if not the greatest accomplishment in college football history.

1899 Sewanee Purple.

This team was nicknamed the Purple Ironmen which was given because they played a road trip of 5 different teams in 6 days. The 2,500 mile road trip by train began in Austin, Texas where they defeated the Longhorns 12 to 0. The next day Texas A&M was beaten 10 to 0. The next day they defeated Tulane 23 to 0. And the next day they defeated LSU 34 to 0. After a one day rest, they beat Ole Miss 12 to 0.

The Purple went 12-0 that season, and outscored their opponents 322 to 10. The only team that scored them in the '99 season a team called Auburn.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've heard that same statement. Sports writers are in a lose lose situation. An out of state fan often finds themselves asking why an article telling me how my team is going to hell in a hand basket sells papers in an area that should have little interest in my team. Some consider it balanced reporting and others see it as a "misery loves company" promotion.

ESPN did a thing on that team three years ago. It was really a really impressive piece. Who's that Auburn team you mentioned?

I'm sure they would have. We were about 2-9 that year. That was the 1 BB, or the year before the Bear arrived.

Holy prognostication, Batman! Oregon made their suckdom official by playing dead against Wake Forest. In concurrence with the reigning Deity, if this isn't the wackiest season of college football, I can't remember a wackier one.
Hey, you Hogs. I believed in you and you let me down. That was the former Kansas coach you lost to, by the way.....
Who is ahead in picking the winners, so far?
Dunadan

A middle of the road team from the Big Eleven beats the SEC West champion. The MIGHTY SEC, I might add.

There goes that 'Bama fan again. You boys oughtta be spanked. Oh that's right... the NCAA already did that. Your butts will be smarting this year AND next year. Buncha prevaricating loosers with no teeth.

The almanac is the sports bible, Dayhiker. So says this reigning deity.

Yeah, Dun. There's a real stinky smell starting to rise over the south. Hopefully it's just a wind shift from the mid-west.

2-0 and impressive, Buddah. All the sports pundits talked about how weak the big ten was this year. So far they've looked good in the bowls. All the sports pundits talked about how strong the pac ten was this year. So far they've gone 1-3 in the bowls.

Wrong again, oh toothless goddess of nothing! NO ONE assumes my mantle until this is over. And even when I lose, I'll still be the basketball god until March. You need to learn humility, Day. BOW BEFORE YOUR BETTERS WATERBOY!!

As of 4:52pm the score stands thusly:
Dunadan 144
Chili 134
Hyway 165
Dayhiker 142
Arcsadcausemygatorslostboy 150

I cannot beat hyway so I am mathematically eliminated. How it finally turns out is yet to be determined!

You can ride the gator now, Dunadan. What a disappointing season for the GATORS. One more like that and Zook will be tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Most disappointing of all was their consistent ability not to adjust in the third quarter. That kind of stat points directly to the coaching staff.

READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!
In a late breaking story, it has been reported that the reigning Football God has changed his allegiance to the Miami Hurricanes. When asked why the sudden jump to get on his former rival's bandwagon, he replied, "Goldarnit, Ah jes have the awfullest time takin' a whuppin' from them Michigan Yankees". When it was brought to his attention that he was a native New Jerseyan, he said, "Yes, and I will be cheering for Rutgers next season, should the unbeatable Hurricanes lose".

The Gainseville News has declared Ron Zook the genius of the century after taking the ball out of the hands of one of the best passing quarterbacks in the country in order to have a converted corner back throw a pass to that same quarterback.

Notre Dame fans will be found hanging out in closets and basements until next season. The cloud of smoke rising over the nation is the result of many tons of Irish paraphernalia being burned in back yards across the country.

Kansas University is on the right track to become a football dynasty. They are slated to die nasty next season.

Back to you, Brent.

Hyway and Dayhiker, through some miraculous coincidence, have their last two games in the same order. If USC wins the Orange Bowl, Hyway and Dayhiker will share the football god title this year (and the great State of Florida will still be ahead of those cornpone Alabama folks by a score of 1 to ½). If Iowa wins the Orange Bowl, then Dunadan takes the title outright. Both Chili and I have no chance. The heated race will be for last place.

Here’s how it breaks down:

IF Miami and USC win-
Dunadan 217
Chili 220
Hyway 243

Arcmiddleofthepack 222

IF Miami and Iowa win-

We should get the ex and the two currents together for a "passing of the torch" ceremony. I'm sure that the old, (and I do mean OLD) deity will have something demeaning and crothcety to say to the two new whipper snappers. That's one of the characteristics that made our old god so dear to our hearts.
Thankyou, Arc, for presiding over us this past year. You have kept us from famine and pestilence while looking down upon us from Mount Olympus. But, as you fade into the sunset, we expose our butt cracks to you.
Bring on the Wolfpack and Crimson Tide gods!

recruiting season, five of our recruits are no longer recruits.

NC State just had 7 kids enroll for the spring semester. 2 were kids we recruited last year who took a little longer than normal to get qualifying SAT scores. 5 are kids that graduated from high school early. Of the seven, six will go on last years recruiting count.
