On Friday, December 20, 2002, Ronnie Cottrell filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the NCAA, Gene Marsh, Marie Robbins, Paul Finebaum and others. Some other names of note in this suit include Thomas Yeager, Tom Culpepper & Rich Johanningmeier. Noticeably absent from this lawsuit was a filing against the University of Alabama.

Due to the deliberate smearing of his name, charges levied by the NCAA that were false, and false statements made on radio programs, Cottrell has had enough and will fight back in court to clear his name and let the TRUTH be known about the past 3 years. Cottrell contends his career has been destroyed by the innuendo and lies and he will seek redress to the tune of around $50,000,000.00 in damages.

He's brave. How can such a lawsuit clear your name or help bama? Once again dodge the mud slung from more digging into this situation. Actually, I wonder if the NCAA takes further action immediately to give them a leg up.”

Actually the whole message board "trash your team talk" and "rumor mill central" really gets old to me quickly so I avoid TI. Voltalk and the Knoxnews is my only regular visit.”

“I read tidefans alot more than TI. It is much more hospitible to "outsiders". Also, it's free to post. There are a few UT guys that come on to discuss. The folks that come on to flame, regardless of affiliation, get booted very quickly. Our new coaches next door neighbor actually came on and told us what a great guy we're getting. That was neat to get that kind of insight. tidefans also has a basketball, non-sports, and a book forum to disucss non-football issues. I mainly just lurk though. Most of those guys could probably quote every player who ever wore for my taste. It's still a good source of info.

The University of New Mexico football team did more giving than receiving on Christmas day, giving the UCLA Bruins three turnovers, which they turned into 17 points, as UCLA beat New Mexico 27-13 in the Sega Sports Las Vegas Bowl. The Lobos finished their bowl-season with a 7-7 record.

Well, the Lobos showed up for part of the game. It started downhill when the NM quarterback bounce the ball of the recievers back into the hands of a Bruin defenseman, who took it for a TD.”

Kansas St. comes nowhere close to covering their 17.5 point spread against Arizona St. And perenial big twelve power Nebraska looses to perenial SEC doormat Ol' Miss. There's a really rotten, funky, dead skunk kinda smell coming from the mid-west...Peeeeyuuuuu! SEC-1, twelve stooges-0!! Dunadan, I'm gonna ride that horse...yeeeeeeha!

“Well, I AM a KU fan because I hold out hope even past the point where things become hopeless.
The Big 12 is 2-2 so far, with the big games coming up. I was massively disappointed in Colorado, but secretly please with Nebraska. (You can only get beaten up by the school bully so many times before you cheer for some other nerd to whip him.) Besides, Mr. Transplant, Mississippi was a middle of the road team playing another middle of the road team, and they were evenly matched.
Now, my interest is really peaking to watch the Michigan-Florida game. I hope nobody has to endure any ridicule for that one, if you know what I mean.

Sometimes the last two get a little muddled, Dayhiker. With all of the competition for high school players, and the rivalries between the schools (Florida used to play Miami every year before the SEC expanded), winning chumpionships is difficult if you're a Florida school. One thing I know for sure, the State of Florida has more college football chumpionships than the State of Alabama. Thus, according to the principles of logic, proving that 'Bama is a second rate college football State!!

No need to be bringing up my operations, Dun. Just because I had my posterior grafted onto my scalp doesn't mean the topic is ripe for public discussion. And don't get any surgical ideas when we go hiking. My voice is a nice deep baritone and I'd like to keep it that way.

“I'm not sure that's correct arc. We have 12. Auburn has 1. That's 13. Miamia has 5 or 6, yall have 1 or 2, and FSU has maybe 2. We still win. Some of our NC's predate the AP and UPI polls. That doesn't mean they don't count. Bear had 5 AP or AP/UPI and 1 UPI championships. If you add 92 that gets us to 7 after AP started. In that case the state of Florida might have us beat. If you correct for population we have yall beaten big time.”

Understanding that before 1936 the NC was usually unofficially chosen by the media mid season and official before the bowl game but how do they say that they have won more NCs that anyone? If Princeton, Pennsylvania, Stanford, Yale, Notre Dame recognized NCs in the same light they would have 20+ National Titles each.”

One school that has tumbled off the football map (became Division III) but has an incredible football history is the University of the South Sewanee. Wow what a campus! Of course, a lot can be done with that kind of cash floating around. If you have never visited Sewanee its something.”

Supposed champions before 1936 were determined by retro polls, mathematical rating systems, and historical research. Championship claims during this period are spurious at best. There were no official champions before 1936. Dream on Dayhiker. ‘Bama has still won an impressive 7 championships since 1936, second only to Notre Dame’s 9. This year I will gladly surrender the title of football god. I cannot remember a season as crazy as this one. Is there incredible parity in college football? Is the coaching merry-go-round causing loss of focus? I sure can’t figure this year out. I could have had as successful a season of picking winners if I had closed my eyes and picked teams at random, flipped a coin, or pulled names out of a hat.

Eight upsets after fourteen bowls? And I’m not talkin’ close spreads here. Oregon was favored by 6.5, Cincinnati 8.5, Colorado by 8.5, Arkansas by 9, and Hawaii by 12. If this season doesn’t bring home the realization that we need a playoff, people aren't paying attention. Barely bowl eligible Minnesota beat up on SEC runner-up Arkansas. The PAC 10 looked strong this year. The ACC always appears pathetic. ACC doormat Wake Forest didn’t just beat Oregon, they crushed ‘em. Wake Forest ran up and down the field on what was supposed to be the #15 rated run defense in the nation. WAKE FOREST for God’s sake!!

My hands are in the air. I’m waving the white flag. Someone please take this season and this contest back to the twilight zone where it belongs. I do not wish to rule over chaos.
