Actually, I hope they win. 10 years ago we were in your exact shoes. No one thought Bama could win. Miami was undefeated and the defending NC. All we had were 12 ugly wins and a great defense. The rest is history. GO BUCKEYES!!!!” 4:39:35 PM 12/19/02 “Yes, Dayhiker, I would gladly forego divinity to see Ohio State win. I'm sure it would be a knock-down drag-out for OSU to win. One more for the Luckeyes!” 9:46:08 PM 12/19/02 Wow! Another instance of “...the gift that keeps on giving. On Friday, December 20, 2002, Ronnie Cottrell filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the NCAA, Gene Marsh, Marie Robbins, Paul Finebaum and others. Some other names of note in this suit include Thomas Yeager, Tom Culpepper & Rich Johanningmeier. Noticeably absent from this lawsuit was a filing against the University of Alabama. Due to the deliberate smearing of his name, charges levied by the NCAA that were false, and false statements made on radio programs, Cottrell has had enough and will fight back in court to clear his name and let the TRUTH be known about the past 3 years. Cottrell contends his career has been destroyed by the innuendo and lies and he will seek redress to the tune of around $50,000,000.00 in damages. He's brave. How can such a lawsuit clear your name or help bama? Once again dodge the mud slung from more digging into this situation. Actually, I wonder if the NCAA takes further action immediately to give them a leg up.” 12:48:32 PM 12/20/02 “Warning, in the post above I may have just became the victim of a rumor. If it is a rumor why did it begin on tiderinsider?” 12:58:30 PM 12/20/02 “trailhound, you read TI? That's interesting. TI is full of talk about Cottrell. I don't really know what to think.” 1:14:09 PM 12/20/02 “Trailhound must be TI's token Vol.” 1:38:12 PM 12/20/02 “I occasionally take a look at UT Gridscape which has about as many bama and auburn fans as UT fans and found the article there. Actually the whole message board "trash your team talk" and "rumor mill central" really gets old to me quickly so I avoid TI. Voltalk and the Knoxnews is my only regular visit.” 1:39:37 PM 12/20/02 “Nice save, trailhound.” 1:43:31 PM 12/20/02 “I read tidefans alot more than TI. It is much more hospitible to "outsiders". Also, it's free to post. There are a few UT guys that come on to discuss. The folks that come on to flame, regardless of affiliation, get booted very quickly. Our new coaches next door neighbor actually came on and told us what a great guy we're getting. That was neat to get that kind of insight. tidefans also has a basketball, non-sports, and a book forum to disucss non-football issues. I mainly just lurk though. Most of those guys could probably quote every player who ever wore I've been to gridscape a time or two to read the infamous TennStud.” 1:50:35 PM 12/20/02 “Oops, my () got left out. That should say ...could probably quote every player who ever wore (insert any jersey number) for my taste.” 1:53:34 PM 12/20/02 “I've yet to meet a college football fan from any team who didn't like this forum. http://www.voltalk.com/forums/index.php?s=9504e58b3f71c8c7515bd93bb4023e03&act=SF&f=17” 2:25:13 PM 12/20/02 “GO VOLS!!!!” 2:41:23 PM 12/20/02 “Is dayhiker delerious?” 2:52:24 PM 12/20/02 “Maybe he started happy hour a little early.” 2:53:34 PM 12/20/02 “now that is what I call a message board” 2:55:59 PM 12/20/02 “I'm delerious alright. Check out that board. Hey baby, how you doin'!” 3:15:24 PM 12/20/02 Bow before me!!! “Don't mind me. Just getting in practice.” 5:09:04 PM 12/20/02 “Count me as another non-buckeye fan hoping they win the National Championship. That will make them ranked No. 1 next September when the Wolfpack smacks them around.” 9:33:42 PM 12/20/02 Ladies and Gentlemen “UCLA vs New Mexico. Did anyone pick NM?” 12:45:46 PM 12/24/02 “Congratulations to all the Texas Techtites out there.... <GRIN>” 2:00:53 PM 12/24/02 “That Tech win makes the whooping they gave NM a little easier to take. Now, if NC State would beat Notre Dame... That was the other whooping NM got early in the season. I don't follow close enough to make a prediction, but I predict NM will be in the game. ;-)” 2:10:36 PM 12/24/02 “Who is keeping score? How does it look so far?” 2:59:57 PM 12/24/02 UCLA takes it. “27-13 The University of New Mexico football team did more giving than receiving on Christmas day, giving the UCLA Bruins three turnovers, which they turned into 17 points, as UCLA beat New Mexico 27-13 in the Sega Sports Las Vegas Bowl. The Lobos finished their bowl-season with a 7-7 record. Well, the Lobos showed up for part of the game. It started downhill when the NM quarterback bounce the ball of the recievers back into the hands of a Bruin defenseman, who took it for a TD.” 11:17:56 PM 12/25/02 “Hawaii seriously let me down. Did anyone pick Tulane in this one?” 5:05:48 PM 12/26/02 “I suck at this. Don't know why I even wasted my time entering my picks.” 8:18:14 PM 12/26/02 “NM did enter the history book yesterday. Too bad she missed, but it was only one point.” 10:54:57 PM 12/26/02 Ahhhm Bahk “Hope you all had a very happy holiday. We had 10" of snow on Christmas Day. My dog and I played in it, and then had the intelligence to come back down south where we don't have to live in it. My dog is pretty smart. You KNOW I'm keeping score. I've got it all on excel. So far: Dunadan 85 Chili 98 Hyway 117 Dayhiker 117 Arc 99 Exactly how pathetic ARE the twelve stooges? Oklahoma St. has to come from behind to beat Southern Miss. Colorado looses to a very mediocre Wisconsin team. Kansas St. comes nowhere close to covering their 17.5 point spread against Arizona St. And perenial big twelve power Nebraska looses to perenial SEC doormat Ol' Miss. There's a really rotten, funky, dead skunk kinda smell coming from the mid-west...Peeeeyuuuuu! SEC-1, twelve stooges-0!! Dunadan, I'm gonna ride that horse...yeeeeeeha! Dream on about Ohio State, boys. THE GREAT STATE OF FLORIDA will prevail for ANOTHER National Chumpionship. Even my dog knows that.” 9:23:31 AM 12/29/02 “Alley Baggette - has my vote for National Champion. :)” 9:34:31 PM 12/29/02 “at least I am not in last place” 12:46:37 AM 12/30/02 “You right 'bout dat, chili. That honor always goes to folks from the big twelve... yeeeeehah! Ride 'em arclite!” 6:22:47 AM 12/30/02 “Aahh, now it's the great state of Florida instead of the University of Florida. You're a Miami fan now. Sounds like the great state of denial to me.” 8:44:00 AM 12/30/02 “it 'aint over till the fat lady sings,, however, did anyone expect the next football god to be a KU fan? does KU even play football?” 9:00:19 AM 12/30/02 “Hey Buddha, email me if you're interested in that Smokies trip so I can get you on the list. dayhiker@tidefans.com” 9:07:20 AM 12/30/02 “Well, I AM a KU fan because I hold out hope even past the point where things become hopeless. The Big 12 is 2-2 so far, with the big games coming up. I was massively disappointed in Colorado, but secretly please with Nebraska. (You can only get beaten up by the school bully so many times before you cheer for some other nerd to whip him.) Besides, Mr. Transplant, Mississippi was a middle of the road team playing another middle of the road team, and they were evenly matched. Now, my interest is really peaking to watch the Michigan-Florida game. I hope nobody has to endure any ridicule for that one, if you know what I mean. Good luck to everyone!” 9:29:14 AM 12/30/02 “I wonder if Memphis will ever play Kansas on the football field? The start a home and home on the court next year.” 9:40:37 AM 12/30/02 “grrr,,,"the" = "they"” 9:40:57 AM 12/30/02 “I love it. Maybe I should have a talk with our coach about scheduling Memphis on the football field. Oh, wait, our AD won't let you get near the coach unless you have thousand dollar bills falling out of your pockets.” 9:46:32 AM 12/30/02 “Thousands??? WTF?? You can talk to Tommy West for about $20” 9:55:55 AM 12/30/02 “Arkansas & Minnesota in about 1 hr. I sure everyone has their vcr set. Go Hogs Go! Woooooooo Pig Sooooooie!!!!” 12:03:51 PM 12/30/02 “This is the order, Dayhiker: God Country Alma Mater League State Sometimes the last two get a little muddled, Dayhiker. With all of the competition for high school players, and the rivalries between the schools (Florida used to play Miami every year before the SEC expanded), winning chumpionships is difficult if you're a Florida school. One thing I know for sure, the State of Florida has more college football chumpionships than the State of Alabama. Thus, according to the principles of logic, proving that 'Bama is a second rate college football State!! No need to be bringing up my operations, Dun. Just because I had my posterior grafted onto my scalp doesn't mean the topic is ripe for public discussion. And don't get any surgical ideas when we go hiking. My voice is a nice deep baritone and I'd like to keep it that way. Arkansas and Oregon. Arclite prepares to make a move on the pack. Will it be forwards or backwards?” 3:26:26 PM 12/30/02 “I'm not sure that's correct arc. We have 12. Auburn has 1. That's 13. Miamia has 5 or 6, yall have 1 or 2, and FSU has maybe 2. We still win. Some of our NC's predate the AP and UPI polls. That doesn't mean they don't count. Bear had 5 AP or AP/UPI and 1 UPI championships. If you add 92 that gets us to 7 after AP started. In that case the state of Florida might have us beat. If you correct for population we have yall beaten big time.” 3:39:56 PM 12/30/02 “OK, I looked it up. FSU has 2, Florida has 1, and Miami has 5. It takes a state with 5 times the population of Alabama to equal us. That's pretty impressive. At least Oklahoma can come close man to man. Florida's NC tradition equals that of the mighty Auburn Tigers, an envious perch indeed.” 3:47:37 PM 12/30/02 “Dayhiker I've never understood how bama declares themselves with 12 National Titles especially several of those before 1950 (pre consensus and BCS poll)? Understanding that before 1936 the NC was usually unofficially chosen by the media mid season and official before the bowl game but how do they say that they have won more NCs that anyone? If Princeton, Pennsylvania, Stanford, Yale, Notre Dame recognized NCs in the same light they would have 20+ National Titles each.” 4:34:06 PM 12/30/02 “I'll have to look at the circumstances of the earlier ones and then post what I find out. I do agree that all of those teams in the NE with NC from the 20's on should count. I think they do count, and therefore we don't have the highest #. Army has a bunch of old ones as well.” 4:37:24 PM 12/30/02 “trailhound, while browsing a site I came across this recent article that summarizes the old polls. http://www.al.com/sports/mobileregister/rkennedy.ssf?/xml/story.ssf/html_standard.xsl?/base/sports/104115700287120.xml or article” 4:53:59 PM 12/30/02 “You forget I'm a UT fan. The Mobile Register is not fit to be used as litter box lining. LOL! I found several stats interesting on this site. http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0771517.html One school that has tumbled off the football map (became Division III) but has an incredible football history is the University of the South Sewanee. Wow what a campus! Of course, a lot can be done with that kind of cash floating around. If you have never visited Sewanee its something.” 8:12:40 AM 12/31/02 “It is a beautiful campus. One of my cousins got married at the chapel there.” 8:17:10 AM 12/31/02 “I remembered your affiliation. What's wrong with the wonderful undercover, investigative reporting of the Mobile Register? Before yall went 7 in a row on us the previous longest streak was 6 in a row by......The University of the South! I think the streak took place before 1920” 8:24:20 AM 12/31/02 “Just like a ‘Bama fan to stretch the truth more than a little. I have the Sports Almanac. ‘Bama had undefeated seasons in 1925, 1926, and 1930. But no championship was ever awarded. Supposed champions before 1936 were determined by retro polls, mathematical rating systems, and historical research. Championship claims during this period are spurious at best. There were no official champions before 1936. Dream on Dayhiker. ‘Bama has still won an impressive 7 championships since 1936, second only to Notre Dame’s 9. Auburn shared one in 1957 with Ohio State. That makes The State of Alabama’s total seven and a half to Florida’s eight. This year we increase our lead as your team has been a bunch of bad boys. You prevaricating Looooooser! This year I will gladly surrender the title of football god. I cannot remember a season as crazy as this one. Is there incredible parity in college football? Is the coaching merry-go-round causing loss of focus? I sure can’t figure this year out. I could have had as successful a season of picking winners if I had closed my eyes and picked teams at random, flipped a coin, or pulled names out of a hat. Eight upsets after fourteen bowls? And I’m not talkin’ close spreads here. Oregon was favored by 6.5, Cincinnati 8.5, Colorado by 8.5, Arkansas by 9, and Hawaii by 12. If this season doesn’t bring home the realization that we need a playoff, people aren't paying attention. Barely bowl eligible Minnesota beat up on SEC runner-up Arkansas. The PAC 10 looked strong this year. The ACC always appears pathetic. ACC doormat Wake Forest didn’t just beat Oregon, they crushed ‘em. Wake Forest ran up and down the field on what was supposed to be the #15 rated run defense in the nation. WAKE FOREST for God’s sake!! My hands are in the air. I’m waving the white flag. Someone please take this season and this contest back to the twilight zone where it belongs. I do not wish to rule over chaos. The only constant in this crazy bowl season has been SEC-1, big twelve-0… BOO-YA!” 8:42:50 AM 12/31/02 “The NCAA's website DOES list NC's prior to 1936. I'll take that over the Sports Almanac sitting on your desk, thank you very much. Seriously, I read that Bear was quoted as saying that Florida was a sleeping giant, if yall could ever get a coach down there. Glad to see you boys FINALLY learned to play football.” 8:48:56 AM 12/31/02 Jump to Page << prev
