Maurice could be the real deal. Is Notre Dame for real? I agree with Arc on this one. Their coach is the real deal, and he has motivated the heck out of guys that were recruited by someone else. Hard to do....” 6:52:21 PM 9/30/02 “I can't knock UT Knoxville too hard, they offered me a scholarship for grad school (and UT, Austin didn't). Still - I gotta make hay while the sun shines. Since I was in school (in the day of Earl Campbell), UTx hasn't spent a whole lot of time around the top. I also have to give props to Notre Dame (even though they did darken the Cotton Bowl way back when). They have more real students and better graduation rates in their varsity programs than the vast majority of top schools.” 8:55:20 PM 9/30/02 “I guess it would be poor form to complain about the all-SEC officiating at the Rutgers-UT game but it was bad enough that our coach broke protocol to point out that he has tape showing the quarterback breaking the plane of the goal line before he was down. He says his back made the initial contact, not his knee. That would have given us a 14 point half-time lead. They also have tape showing that the ball was spiked at one second. One of the officials called it that way before he was overruled. I’m not sure that either of those calls would have made any difference given the way Tennessee dominated the second half but there were controversial calls then too. I’m glad the Wounded Amoebas were able to provide a show for that huge crowd of orange. It’s really hard to believe that y’all can draw over 100,000 people. I would like the record to show that I was one of the only nuts who thought it would be anything but a one-sided blowout. I must admit I was amazed that our hobbled offense was able to control the first half the way it did.” 9:01:15 AM 10/01/02 “It's ok to go ahead and complain about SEC officiating, Violin. All 12 schools in the SEC do it all of the time. Our officals make HS make officials look good.” 10:28:16 AM 10/01/02 “Violin, I hope the Hogs put up that much fight this week. Chili, not much to say about the Hurricane. Not much water, plenty of gnats, horse flies,ticks,etc... That should change some in the next few weeks. I did meet a group from Tennessee. They were going from Piney to Fairview which is the intended direction but not the most fun imho.” 1:28:12 PM 10/01/02 “Arky, we will do this from Fairview to Piney.... ending up on the bank of the Hurricane at the end of the week seems to be better hopefully a couple of weeks will make a difference in the pest problem hopefully, I won't get shot wearing UT Orange....” 8:51:16 AM 10/02/02 “And I damn sure hope I don't get shot wearing orange. God forbid my final clothing have anything to do with orange.” 8:57:03 AM 10/02/02 “ahem...ND is #1... At least that's what the NYTimes tells me. GO IRISH!” 3:53:28 PM 10/02/02 What the he11 is Army Coach Todd Berry Smoking? “"I know nobody believes me, but the pieces of the puzzle are here. We just need to put them all together. Right now, we are our own worst opponent when it comes to turnovers." They're 0-4 with blowouts the last three games!” 8:00:22 PM 10/02/02 I can't believe it.... “We let this thread drop off the page! What kind of college football fans are we? Anyway, it's time for Uncle Dunadan's Weekly Picks. You know, the kind you can bet on!!! Let's start off with Miami. (The team that makes the SEC pee their pants.) Well, it seems the Hurricanes are playing another of those super tough schools on their schedule. Dunadan says that Miami will barely win this one 59-0. Texas will have a fight on their hands, but will win by two touchdowns. Missouri will pull the upset. Uncle Dunny can't divulge the score. Ohio State has found a running back that won't be stopped by the likes of Northwestern. Buckeyes dominate. Mississippi will ALMOST pull this one out. However, Grossman shines and the Gators win. Roll Tide by ten points. Sorry, Dawgs. Gotta love that Kansas boy at the helm. Oregon-Ariz. Who cares? Willingham will have his crew psyched for Stanford and the Fighting Irish will remain undefeated. Bama softened up the Razorbacks and the Vols finish them off. Can Clemson pull it off against Daddy? Don't think so. Cal at Washington. Ho Humm... Kansas State fights off the altitude and wins by three over Colorado. Dunadan doesn't pick against his home state! USC wins. Wisconsin will get the job done against Penn St. Dunny thinks home field will be an advantage in this one. Tech over A&M in Texas. The Pass Atack will be on target. Iowa Hawkeyes are feeling pretty good about themselves and Purdue won't give them any reason not to feel that way. So, call your bookies and make some money off of old Uncle Dunadan. It's as sure as some college football player ending up in jail after the game!” 11:53:34 PM 10/03/02 “Stratdewd will still hate football...” 12:18:47 AM 10/04/02 “I'm heading off to the Bama game tommorrow. I should arrive in T-Town by about 10. ESPN Gameday will be broadcast from the QUAD. The weather should be clear and beautiful. I have my game face on and can't wait. This time last week I felt like we would scrape by Ark and then beat the crap out of Jawja. I'm really nervous about this one. Pat Dye isn't helping. For those of you who don't know Dye, he is a former Georgia All-American player, he coached at Bama under the BEAR, and is a former Auburn head coach. He is on a local sports show from time to time and was quoted with "Georgia isn't man enough to beat Bama" This later made it to the front page of the Atlanta paper. I'm sure it's all over billboards now. I love the way Franchoine understates things. A caller to his weekly radio show called in last night and asked what he thought about Coach Dye's comments. Franchoine responded with "Who's Pat Dye?" Gotta love him.” 8:26:25 AM 10/04/02 “We need for Bama to beat GA, GA to beat FL and TN to beat Bama. Simple formula..... Of course, we still have Miami on the schedule.” 8:47:46 AM 10/04/02 “The first and last one will happen. The middle one will be a good game, but is too close to call.” 8:58:09 AM 10/04/02 “foootball is DA DEBIL!” 9:03:34 AM 10/04/02 “foooseball, PLEH!” 9:04:15 AM 10/04/02 “hmmm, strat is proof of the difference one drumming will make.” 9:08:30 AM 10/04/02 “i can't wait till tiddliewinks season. GO HOGS!” 9:12:12 AM 10/04/02 “YOU need that to happen chili. Of course nobody who amounts to anything in this world wants it to play out that way. Violin, they just suspended four big ten refs for poor officiating in the Wake Forest/Purdue game. Everwhere, it seems, the zebras be like bling hogs. Bongo, don't you know better than to read a one-sided rag like the Times? Savor the feeling on your own. ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! ROLL TIDE! I just cannot express that sentiment too much. Day, I almost bet Bama giving 4 until I read Dye's comment. Maybe because he played ball at jawja. Maybe because he coached at Auburn. He sure didn't do the Tide any favors by making a comment that is absolutely guaranteed to fire up those mangy mutts. ROLL TIDE! Dunadan, the only reason that Miami doesn’t make the twelve stooges pee their pants is because they don’t dare schedule teams like that. How can you win national championships if you actually have to play more than two tough opponents a year? Let’s check the facts- Nebraska has played Arizona St., Troy St., Utah St., and Iowa St. The highest ranked team on that list is #18 Iowa St. How pathetic is that schedule? THEY’VE EVEN LOST TWICE AND DROPPED OUT OF THE POLLS! Gee it must be great to be a husker fan and sit through games against opponents like those every year. Oklahoma has played Tulsa, Alabama, UTEP, and South Florida. Nobody on that schedule is ranked. And if you take away Bama, the other three teams are a combined 3-11. That’s three wins, for three teams, after five games (4 for South Florida). You’ve got to be joking. That schedule is EMBARRASSING. No wonder Oklahoma has 6 national championships with limp wristed schedules like that. Kansas St. is 4-0 WOW! Yeah against Western Kentucky, Louisiana Munroe, Eastern Illinois and USC. How can you keep a straight face with a schedule like that? How can those mid-west schools schedule good teams when they play in such a competitive league? From 1950 to 1995, before the big eight became the big twelve, Nebraska or Oklahoma DID NOT at least share the league title a whopping 4 times. What an exciting league. Miami, Dunadan? How could Oklahoma and Nebraska win all those championships if they actually had to play a real schedule. Boola-boola, boola-boola…” 6:57:00 PM 10/04/02 “MATT! ban the football please?” 7:37:12 PM 10/04/02 “We're ranked #22 in the AP poll. It's good to be ranked for the first time in a while. If we win Sat. we should be "Movin' on up, to that deluxe ...."” 8:50:05 PM 10/04/02 “Well, if Miami can keep it together against their tough schedule, then they will meet the Big Twelve champion for all the marbles.” 12:08:12 AM 10/05/02 Penn State 34, Wisconsin 31 “God I love this sport! Robbie Gould: I can do it coach. Joe-Pa: You can do it? Robbie: I can do it! Joe-Pa: Damn, he did it.” 6:45:43 PM 10/05/02 “Dunadan, are you saying that you believe the winner of the big twelve will have the honor of being pounded by Miami? I saved you for first this time. As long as we don't have a playoff system, teams from non-competitive conferences will always have a better opportunity to play for "national chumpionships." Teams in non-competitive leagues have it much easier than do teams from, say, a league that has had EIGHT different teams produce FIFTEEN “national chumpionships” since 1950. Teams in non-competitive leagues have it much easier than teams from, say, a league who has produced THREE “national chumpionships”, by THREE different teams, during the PAST TEN YEARS. Leagues that have had SEVEN different teams play in their championship game tend to have a tougher time of getting to those “national chumpionship” games than do teams from leagues that only have a couple of strong teams year in and year out. In fact, even after we have a playoff system, it will be easier for the teams from weak leagues. Teams from weak leagues have a better chance of avoiding injury and are usually better able to maintain their focus for only a couple of tough games. Of course this is all just hypothetical unless you believe in… FACTS! Sorry Dayhiker, you are so right. I was looking at the ESPN poll as I was checking team schedules on the ESPN site. As you know, the coaches poll does not rank teams on probation. Bama is certainly deserving of a ranking the way they almost beat the mighty Oklahoma Sooners (gag...choke). OK, would somebody please tell me what happened? Being an old gummer, I took a nappy-poo at half time of the Florida/Ol’ Miss. Game. Florida was up 14 to 2 and it looked like it would be a routine win for Florida. Rex Grossman was having trouble throwing the ball accurately but Florida was running and passing well enough to move the ball. Florida’s defense was holding Mississippi well enough to have kept their offense from having scored a single point during the half. I figured I could take a sleep break, then watch the mop-up. I woke up around 3:20 and sleepily made my way to where I had left the game on. On the way out of the bedroom I could hear what seemed to be a rather loud crowd but didn’t think anything of it considering how rabid visiting Florida fans can be. I got into my comfy chair and started watching the game again. Florida had the ball with a little over three minutes to play. Then I spotted the little rectangle in the corner of the screen that showed the score 17-14. I thought, wow Mississippi is really making it a close game. Then I noticed that the 17 was in front of Mississippi’s name. I’m thinking, how can that be? Although I was in disbelief, Florida was driving and I was sure that their losing situation would soon be rectified. Then Grossman overthrew another of his receivers, Mississippi picked off the ball, and was able to run the clock out. The stats showed that Grossman threw 4 interceptions? This is against a team whose defense was maligned as being very porous. This is a team that allowed Vanderbilt to score 38 points. Rex Grossman was the Heisman runner-up last year, wasn’t he? Many of the ranking services had Florida as having the best backfield in the nation, didn’t they? Except for Vanderbilt, this is the easiest SEC team Florida will play this year. How could Florida not be up for this game with the meat of their SEC schedule coming up? Since I was slumbering peacefully during the part where Mississippi was able to score 15 points. Since I was blissfully snoozing as Florida was shut out for an entire half of football and Rex Grossman threw four interceptions against a very weak defensive unit …WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED? Chili, you have reason to be very optimistic about your chances for reaching the SEC title game. Florida holds (by a wide margin) the record for the longest consecutive appearances in the top 25 rankings. Virginia Tech fans have reason to be optimistic that they will soon hold that record. My team is mired in mediocrity. Wounded Amoebas, Flopping Eyerash, … add Forking Goiters to that list.” 6:50:07 PM 10/05/02 “Arc, I have changed my mind. We need FL to beat GA now. Ole Miss got the job done for us in Oxford.” 6:50:46 PM 10/05/02 “Fight fiercely, Harvard, fight, fight, fight! Demonstrate to them our skill. Albeit they possess the might, Nonetheless we have the will. How we will celebrate our victory, We shall invite the whole team up for tea. (How jolly!) Hurl that spheroid down the field, And fight, fight, fight! Fight fiercely, Harvard, fight, fight, fight! Impress them with our prowess, do! Oh, fellas, do not let the crimson down, Be of stout heart and true. Come on, chaps, fight for Harvard's glorious name! Won't it be peachy if we win the game? (Oh, goody!) Let's try not to injure them, But fight, fight, fight! Let's not be rough, though! Fight, fight, fight! And do fight fiercely! Fight, fight, fight!” 7:00:14 PM 10/05/02 “That last bit sounds like a Monty Python spoof.” 7:07:59 PM 10/05/02 Another blowout “Army got buried by ECU. Wow, another shocker. Don't worry though Army fans, the coach says the pieces of the puzzle are there. He just has to put them together. Let's see, this piece fits here, whoops, no, ... that's the back. Hmmm. Let me look at the lid again. Be right with you sport!” 7:13:58 PM 10/05/02 7:16:44 PM 10/05/02 Close but no banana, eh? “Suits the school, dontcha think?” 7:23:27 PM 10/05/02 Ahh, good “Virginia beat Puke, 27-22” 7:44:27 PM 10/05/02 “Man! I had a really zippy one-liner about Harvard and "ending one's sentences with prepsitions" but it was lost in transit, <grrrrrrrrrrrr>. Yes, Duke is Evil. They made lotsa money selling TOBACCO...” 8:15:27 PM 10/05/02 “from Memphis, I can hear a big party somewhat to the south,,,,down near Oxford, I think... I can also smell the pig beginning to roast,,,,, back to the east,,,,up near Knoxville, it seems.” 9:28:12 PM 10/05/02 “It's obvious that arclite and I need to stay tuned to the game a little more. TN was up 17 to 3, I leave the room, answer some email, make a couple of posts on TT, and go back in time to see a 92 yard play by Arkansas to tie the game...... I think I am going to puke.....” 9:41:14 PM 10/05/02 “Arc, all I can say is that you are the Football God with a team of clay. As much as you tout your SEC, (and I'm sure you've read my posts where I've paid the league its dues), I am STILL deluded enough to think that the Big 12 is every bit as tough as the SEC, this year. I see it becoming more and more competitive, with more parity than in years past. My delusion knows no shame, either. As a matter of fact, I have been slamming a school who plays the very kind of schedule that you ridicule. (You know, the one you are so afraid of.) Anyway, my predictions got shot all to he--, so what do I know? From now on, it's Notre Dame all the way baybee!!!!” 10:10:34 PM 10/05/02 “5 losses this year??? Could be......” 10:21:34 PM 10/05/02 “and Arkansas misses a 35 yarder in the third overtime......after TN turned over the ball..... I need a shot of scotch..... my nerves can't handle this.....” 10:23:33 PM 10/05/02 “4th OT...” 10:26:14 PM 10/05/02 “5th OT....” 10:34:40 PM 10/05/02 “5th OT” 10:34:43 PM 10/05/02 “6 OT,,,,,somebody call my doctor....” 10:49:32 PM 10/05/02 “Tomorrow, in honor of a heroic Arkansas team,,,,I am going to buy an Arkansas sweatshirt and wear it to my favorite watering hole..... Great game..... Hard fought victory,,,,,but the next two games for UT could be bad..” 10:59:18 PM 10/05/02 “Great finish on that one Chili.” 11:01:57 PM 10/05/02 “I love football.” 11:02:13 PM 10/05/02 “I think would have paid money to watch a webcam of chili sweating that one out...” 11:13:13 PM 10/05/02 “That game was UGLY. Neither team deserved to win. Nutts offense is starting to remind me of Nolan Richardson's. Just run around and hope someone makes a play.” 11:24:13 PM 10/05/02 “Who won? ut?” 11:35:42 PM 10/05/02 “i watched the replay of the rutgers game last night..UT almost lost that one too..lmao... and poor poor bama...tsk tsk..teach them to go for 2 and miss field goals how bout them horns!!!???” 11:38:21 PM 10/05/02 wow...... “i hear ya jgiels. arkansas has now been in the 2 longest games in college history. i can't beleive it, but we came out short this time. listening to the post game show on the radio, they asked coach nutt for his thoughts on the game. after almost a 60 seconds of silence, all he could say, in a quivering voice, was....."i can't do it" . gut wrenching loss. gotta be proud of the way they fought. gotta hand it to the vols for a hard fought victory, and a classy coach fulmer for his tribute to the hogs after the game. we need to use our "long kicker" all the time though. our #1 kicker missed 3, any one of which would have sealed the win. also i thought there were a few bad calls from the officials, but that's football. hope the guys can come back from this one. it's gotta be harder than the loss last week. we got a very tough alburn team, on the road, and will be tired from 6 OT's. Tn will have to facee GA (HAHA BAMA!), and will be tired too. our guy, #88 missed 3 catches for huge gains too! and our fullback, price, missed 2, 1 of which would have been a TD. dam dam dam. oil well..... i guess i love football afterall... ^5 chiliehead.....gimme a hit of dat scotch!” 11:53:00 PM 10/05/02 “How about that Colorado KSU game. I saw the first part. Something like seven touchdowns over 70 yards between the two teams in the first half. Colorado 35 (16)KSU 31” 8:58:01 AM 10/06/02 Jump to Page << prev
