OK, arcy, I'll go first
The John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Science Fiction Novel has been awarded every year since 1973, except in 1994. Unlike other major science fiction awards, such as the Hugo and the Nebula, recipients are selected by a jury.

In 1976, the jury felt that no truly outstanding novels had been published the previous year, and so the award was given retrospectively to a novel published in 1970.

In 1994, no award was given; this was due to a breakdown in the nomination process, not because no novel was judged worthy.

The award ceremony has been held in a number of places over the years, but since 1979, has been held at the University of Kansas, where it has become the focus of a weekend-long conference that also includes discussions of the writing, illustration, publishing, teaching, and criticism of science fiction.

Gee whiz, arcy, I didn't know Gator football players were so litterate. You must be very proud. Now, about all those national championships...

The fact that UF has won 3 BCS Championship Games after winning SEC Championship Games each of those years is a matter of record even the most illiterate can comprehend.

FG, I realize that you Alabama folks enjoy your football factory but isn’t Alabama supposed to be a University? If it is a University, and not just a football factory, Alabama has a sad history of poor performance:

Alabama is not a member of the AAU
http://www.aau.edu/

Graduation rates are below average
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/2008-10-14-grad-rates_N.htm

Over the years, graduation rates have been below better SEC schools
http://www.rollbamaroll.com/2009/11/20/1166347/sec-graduation-success-rates

They have no Campbell Award winners (and probably don’t care)
http://www.footballfoundation.org/draddyformer.php

Bear Bryant publically admitted they bought players
http://barkingcarnival.fantake.com/2008/06/09/the-history-of-college-football-recruiting-cheating-part-4/

And many, many, folks (most notably Auburn fans on youtube) have raised valid doubts concerning a number of Alabama’s claimed national championships.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAbBwfDr6_s

A friend of mine, who played football at Troy, remembers seeing twice as many players on the Alabama sideline than they had on their team. I’ll bet Ohio State could manage to beat Florida with a two-to-one player advantage.

Dayhiker and I were taking about loyalty, respect, and honorable behavior. It’s not surprising that you missed the point, FG. You bring up a topic that has been questioned for accuracy and honesty. And you can’t point to a single instance where an Alabama player won the most prestigious and desirable trophy for academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.

Most folks must seem pretty silly to you for thinking that Universities are for the education of students not minor league football factories.

Hey, with an honorable “tradition” like Bama’s shouldn’t we all be impressed?

Oh wait FG, the NCAA has Florida listed as shared National Champions in 1984 too.
http://www.ncaa.org/wps/portal/ncaahome?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/ncaa/NCAA/Sports%20and%20Championship/General%20Information/ia_football_past_champs.html

But most Gators don’t consider it a legitimate National Championship. Florida fans don’t want to cheapen our fine University by claiming titles that aren’t totally legitimate. It’s an honor thing, FG. You wouldn’t understand.

And for those who are so illiterate as to need repeats:

Alabama famously claims a great number of “National Championships”. However, prior to 1936, how credible are those claims? Many of the pre-1936 claims title claims rely on an organization (now dissolved) called the Helms Athletic Foundation, which was founded in 1936. For championships prior to 1936, Helms “researched records” dating back to 1901 and decided, in retrospect, who the “National Champion” was. Thus, how “solid” can Alabama’s claims of 1925, 1926, 1930 (a split?) and 1934.

1964 is a complete laugher. By all measures the NC belongs to Arkansas in 1964. But that doesn’t stop Alabama fans from claiming it.

So, FG, now you can answer my question: exactly how many legitimate National Championships can Alabama claim?

In order to be honest, you should start cutting off some of those yearly patches from your fake varsity jacket (like the ones I’ve seen Alabama fans wearing).

I always loved the Fatboys. I like the Fatbob too. But I like to travel long distances. I've got Arnott air shocks with an on-board compressor. I've spent ten hours straight in the saddle feeling great. That sucker is a Cadillac on the road.

Yeah it's pretty cool. I get stopped wherever I go. We went to Laconia last year and I had a bunch of folks snapping pics of it. We're going back to Laconia in June. We ride the Adirondacks through NY, the Greens through Vermont, and the Whites through New Hampshire. It's a great two weeks.

The funniest incident ever was on the Blueridge Parkway. We're pulled off at an overlook. A van pulls over. Mom. dad, and the kids all pile out. Mom has a camera. She completely ignores dad and the kids, walks over to my bike, and starts snapping pictures. We busted out laughing.

But I didn't do it for anyone else. I planned what I wanted to do for two years and then did it all at once. It's finished. I'm not driving myself nuts doing it piecemeal over years.

Only shame is, we bumped the engine up so much that it gets 24mpg. It's fast but I guess I'll just have to get a Street Glide for touring out west.

The NCAA Football Rules Committee has shown its fascist colors. In a move bound to please leftists, who have continuously been outraged by Tim Tebow's use of biblical verses on his eye black, they've ruled:

Requiring players who wear "eye black" to use solid black with no words, logos, numbers or other symbols. That will be effective next season.

UF does not have any branch campuses. Maybe I understand as much about Alabama's university system as you do about "flagship campuses."

OPIE made a kind comment. I would much rather be compared to FAMU than to FSU for football.

But if we're comparing academics, you've got to be joking? Even if Alabama were a member of the AAU, you still couldn't make a case.

"Just posting bad behavior at the flagship campus of UF" were you?

You must have a strong stomach then.

I think Urban overreacted but it sure isn’t worth the sensation a small amount of journalistic hucksters and emotional sports morons make out of it.

But then there’s the Alabama difference:

This is starting to sound familiar.

Alabama is back on probation.

The school that prided itself on playing by the rules and never getting into NCAA trouble is now on probation for the fourth time in 14 years.

Alabama needs to keep this firm on retainer full-time for continued monitoring of habitual offenses:

Alabama's six-figure defense vs. NCAA
The University of Alabama athletics department spent $188,442.62 for a law firm to defend the university in its NCAA major infractions case that ended this week, a university official said today.

The NCAA Division I Infractions Appeals Committee on Tuesday upheld a ruling that vacates Alabama records due to violations involving the distribution of textbooks to 201 athletes in 16 sports. Alabama must vacate 21 football victories from 2005, 2006 and part of 2007.

The UA system is comprised of UA in Tuscaloosa, which is the main campus, then UAH in Huntsville and UAB in Birmingham. The nutty professor was at UAH.

This current thing you're mentioning was applealed, the appeal was denied, so they're just now extending the probation. It had to do with a lack of a system for the return of textbooks. This wasn't some sinister conspiracy with boosters, etc.
