“I just read an article that McElroy had two cracked ribs from the 3rd qtr of the Florida game. We would have had little chance to do any kind of come from behind passing disply...+ their pass rush was fierce. I bet he hasn't been sacked taht much in the last 3-4 games combined.

It would have been interesting to see how the game might have played out with McCoy in the game. That question didn't concern me last night because I felt like we would have run the offense different. The relevation about McElroy changes all of that. Either way, glad we won. Roll Tide Roll!”

“There was a lot of talk on local talk radio about what would happen if our QB got hurt. Saban said this week that our true freshman would come in and lose his redshirt instead of the guy that has been backup all year. It was talked about what kind of a story would that be if the true (ours) freshman came in late to win it all. As Gilbert moved the ball all over our D late in the game I just kept thinking about the weeks discussion. It nearly happened, just not from the good guys.”

“Sorry, I hate sloppy play and mental mistakes. Have you ever seen a NC team give up such large chunks of yardage in the air throughout the year? When was the last time 2 bcs champ teams both had redshirt freshmen qbs or such a poor running game? I could go on.

“Honestly, I don't remember how the sec did in bowl games last year which is not a bad indicator of strength. I think college football as a whole was fairly strong last year. If I remember correctly in '99 UT was on their way to the SEC Champ game until they were upset by AR.”

“It was a sloppy, sloppy game, but our season wasn't sloppy. Our QB is a RS Junior. He was sloppy due to their pass rush and his two cracked ribs.

This NC team didn't give up large chucks of yardage throughout the year. We did in this game though. We were #8 in pass defense coming in. Ask Ryan Mallet, Jevon Snead, and Tim Tebow about our pass D. They'll all be playing on Sunday and sucked ass against our sloppy D.

Poor runnig game, both our RB's went over 100 yards.

I'm very proud of my team. We have gone 24-0 in the regular season in the toughest conference in the country over the past two years. We won the SEC and now the NC. I hate it that McCoy went out, but that is part of the game...just ask UT from when they played OU and Bradford went down. UT played very well under the circumstances. Their D played as advertised, their pass rush was better than advertised.

This was a wonderful year of firsts, first Heisman and first ever win over Texas. We had 5 AP AA's and the Butkus award winner. It was a great season, possibly the greatest in Bama history.”

“Please understand I'm just talking football and making an overview of the season. It was an odd year. Simply, I just was not impressed with anyone�s level of play this season.

I never mentioned bama's running game but did observe many series where huge plays were given up particularly through the air, many mental mistakes and critical errors that get you beat by good teams. Of course, all champions have their moments of luck. Bama had more than moments this year.

If your accusing me of jealousy your welcome to it. Yes, I would much rather UT have won a NC this year and even for Texas to have won last night. Not trying to rain on your parade or take anything away from bama. Just commenting that the level of play was way down this year. Again, it�s better to be the best team in a given year than a better team in the decade.

Do I think they would have won in a playoff? Nope. Do I think also that Texas was a poor opponent? Yes. Do I think they would have won with Colt? Yes, but again its just as much a part of the game as a sand trap in golf.”

“Sorry, just not a whole lot to talk about. My comment about the freshmen qbs comes from some thoughts by Pat Dye. Dye would generally warn the press that any year with a freshmen starting qb guaranteed a minimum of two losses in the sec. It seems to be fairly accurate. Just surprised by the lack of depth at the qb position for both teams.

“Gilbert did pull it together as time went on, but he only averaged 37.5% pass completion for the game. Add 4 interceptions and 1 QB fumble lost recoverd by Alabama and "Austin we have problem". He shows real promise for the future.

The game would have been more interesting if McCoy stayed in. The Horns might have turned either or both of those first field goals into TD's, but the Tide would have gotten their running going before too long - but UT's defenses would be better rested and Alabama might have fewer possessions to work with [can't tell though because they would have used the clock more efficiently while behind].

'Bama has an awesome team and are deserving champions. Their running assault is incredible - all the talking heads are gushing about the yards after contact, but it is amazing to watch. I'm sure Alabam will be fierce next year.

It will be fun to see the impact some of these kids make in the NFL.

Dayhiker, if you want to make an informed opinion you may want to check the roster or pay attention to Florida’s personnel. Of course chemistry is everything but Florida’s running game should be better next year. Florida should run more of a pro-style offense next year. You heard it here first.

Hey, what happened? Up until this year Heisman’s didn’t mean a thing to Bama fans. Just like some other accomplishments (like say, the Draddy (Campbell), or the Maxwell). Awards like the Campbell mean nothing to Bama fans and we all know why, don’t we?




I’d have to say I mostly agree with trailhound about the lack of team dominance except for one thing: Alabama played dominant football in the Alabama tradition of tough defense and a punishing ground game. The old adage, “defense wins games” came true again. It may not be flashy but Bama was awfully good this year. I’d have to agree that it was a great season for the Crimson Tide.

AND they upheld the honor of the SEC.
