How it must suck to be a Gator fan.

First your star quarterback cries like a little girl on national teevee, then your coach becomes completely unhinged and unstable.

Cinci has never been in position to compete with the big boy programs. Neither are TCU & Boise State if you consider the leftover talent that goes to those schools. Too bad they won't get their chance though.

Is Les Miles out at LSU? I know Bateauxdriver wants him gone.

Holy Cow Pie! What a year!

I haven’t posted because I was so bad off that I really wasn’t watching much college football. A man’s really gotta be sick not to enjoy college football.

I’m recovered enough now just to be dealing with my broken ribs. What a blessing that is. I can deal with broken ribs. Broken ribs got nothing on what I went through. I’ve got a big ol’ scar that runs under my right arm from my titty to my back. Opened me up like a Pez dispenser they did. And they weren’t very aesthetic about closing me up. I’m a lumpy mess.

I gotta get x-rays in March to make sure the metal is all where it should be and then an MRI next December just to make sure nothing’s growing back. I’ll be setting off airport detectors.

Forget the bar fights guys. You want to get busted up? Just let a surgeon get hold of you. Well at least I’m alive… for now.

Just call me the bionic butthead… the metallic monster… the lumpy loudmouth…

What a nice way to finish. We played our worst game of the year and our best game of the year back-to-back. After getting our butts handed to us (excuse me…Bama didn’t hand our butts to us; they stomped those suckers flat and left them on the field to slowly bleed out) we went and played a good one against Cincy.

I’ve always thought the Big East was underrated. I think they play a good brand of competitive ball. And their conference is competitive within itself (unlike that two-team northern conference that the entire college football world makes fun of). But you sure couldn’t tell that last night. Florida finally played to its potential. Cincy never stood a chance.

Most importantly, we upheld the honor of the SEC (unlike that creamsicle colored team with the loudmouth lying coach).

It’s almost done! Now the year has gone by and I mostly missed it. You don’t appreciate what you’ve got till it’s gone. And I really, really appreciate my health. When somebody says, “At least you’ve got your health” I won’t be laughing any more. But even more importantly, I missed the 2009 season and I’ll miss 2009 college football.

I’ll be glued for the National Championship Game… ROLL TIDE!

The only bad part is.. now that Alabama doesn’t suck any more... they’re looking to stand atop the SEC next year…and the year after…

2010 should be a good one!

HAPPY NEW YEAR YALL!!!

Welcome back.

I've heard we're already #1 in some preseason polls. I know you'll be shocked to know that the media evidently hasn't done their homework. We play lots of nickel and lose all 3 of the starting corners, 1 safety, 3 of 4 starting linebackers (when we're playing a 3-4), and all 3 starting DL's.

I think on O we only lose 2 OL.

I can't wait on teh game Thur. It should be a good one....provided our team hasn't been reading their press clippings.

Welcome back. I kinda like "bionic butt-head".

Brian Kelly called all the offensive plays from 3 x 5 cards. When he left, it was like taking several star players at once. Still, I woulda thought Cincinnati's defense would have held the Gaytors to under 40 points. No matter what the offense produced, it would be hard to win when you allow 51 points. Congratulations.

If you look back a few months, you'll see I picked Alabama as #1q back in late September or early October and even dayhiker didn't believe it. I'll wear the Football God crown starting Friday.

Thanks guys. Now if I can only figure out a way to type from bed. Sitting without a pillow behind my back hurts after a while.

Viola, lots of announcers were saying that Alabama was #1 a while back. I didn't believe them. I kept thinking that the Gators would eventually start running the same aggressive play calling they did when Dan Mullen was the OC last year. Addazio called a much more conservative game all year... up until Cincinnati. They opened it up and had fun at the Sugar Bowl.

But to blame the SEC game on play calling does Alabama an injustice. And it certainly doesn't explain the brilliant job they did in shredding a very good Gator defense. They came to play. They outcoached and outplayed the Gators. They played inspired ball. Last year Florida made Alabama quit in the fourth quarter. This year Bama made Florida quit much earlier.

During the Cincinnati game one announcer commented that if Florida could manhandle Cincinnati like this, just how good is Alabama?

We shall see. I like the Tide's chances to show the world that the SEC has a number of top-tier teams with Florida, LSU, and Alabama all winning championships this decade.

And I still believe the Tide is loaded for years to come. Now we'll see how they handle that monkey. If the coaching staff stays intact, they'll be tough for years.

It won't last though. Florida will reclaim its crown as the record-setting best of the SEC.

The staff thing is key. That hurt yall this year and will hurt worse next year. Our OL coach has been a miracle worker this year. We lost two AA's and a 2 year starter off last years line and haven't missed much of a beat. I hear rumors he's retiring. I really hope not. Our DC will be up for a HC gig before too long I'm sure.

Oh, and we have Florida and Penn State at home in 2010. Playing those two on the road in 2011 will be brutal. I'm seriously considering going to the PSU game on the road.

Happy New Year, arclite! I hope you get well soon. May 2010 be Your Year!

By the way I've been up to Shands 5 0r 6 times. I received two stints. One of them is in one of my five bypasses from 1990. I am close to the their decision time for whether or not I get the stem cells. I just hope I don't end up with placebos.

I love this time of the year___all those Bowl Games. Mostly losers playing losers, for the money! Yet the public buys it, so there must be something to it.

Hey Arc - I am thrilled to see you posting here.

If the Tide takes apart the Horns as badly as I fear, Florida will have made a great case for being #2.

Come Thursday, I will be cheering on the underdog. Hook 'em Horns! A few years ago they did it as the underdog, but Vince Young was a one of kind college QB. Colt McCoy is damn good - but I have not seen him take it to the level he'll need to reach if he's to have a major (positive) impact for UT.

I'm cautiously and nervously optimistic about this game. I mentioned being cautious in case the team has read their press clippings. Two stories on that sure make me feel better:

1. In the SECCG you saw Cody getting the Gatorade bucket. That's 6'-5", 360# Mt Cody, the All American NG. Well, if you recall, you never saw Saban get doused. That's because our Butkus award winning MLB (McClain) wouldn't LET Cody douse Saban. He said we had unfinished business and that the gatorade bucket would only come out if the team met it's ultimate goal.

2. The team leaders(Julio, Ingram, and McClain) decided that the team should travel together and forego the NCAA allowed travel per diem that you get when the players are on their own to arrive at a bowl game. I'm sure an enterprising UT fan will joke that our players don't need the money. I like the thought that they thinks it important to travel as a team.

Big Ten has done pretty well in the Bowl Games in ranked match-ups they've beat the SEC teams. All four ranked (top 25) teams have won their match ups.

With Florida winning big and LSU being edged out - the best SEC ranked teams can do is take 2 of 3 (though we could give unranked Mississippi credit for beating a top 25 team).

Dayhiker: I noticed the story about the Tide traveling as a team, too. I also noticed that they are asking to get the money - anyway. If that works, they'll make out better than any of the Longhorns.

Next year will be interesting from both a coaching and player perspective. We’re making so many changes I haven’t got a clue what to think.

We’ll probably stretch the field a bit more because Brantley is a pure and accurate passer and we have lots of good receivers.

The running game should improve with some good young guys in the mix.

The condition of the O-Line will depend on the Pouncey Twins.

D-line should be as good or better.

With Stamper and Spikes graduating, the linebackers will drop off a bit. We’ve got some good yung’uns.

Besides Joe Haden, the D-backfield should be in good shape. We can replace Ahmad Black.

But replacing Urban Meyer and Charlie Strong will be tough. How do you replace two of the best in the business? Dan Mullen, Doc Holiday, and Billy Gonzales were tough losses. It’s hard to keep good assistants nowadays.

As one of the premier jobs in the nation, Florida doesn’t have a problem attracting coaches. But good coaches are always a matter of timing. And then there’s the lag after installing a new system…

…just ask Nigal. Has Nigal stopped sucking his thumb and come out from under his rock yet? Wait until next year, Nigal ol’ buddy!

Thanks Dunadan. Thanks Slim. I’m not totally back but I’m managing to sputter by on one cylinder.

You’ve always got basketball, Dunadan. Hey, what was the last team to win back-to-back national basketball titles? What is the only school in the nation to hold national championships in both basketball and football in the same year?

Slim, give me a yell at highlander75@cox.net if you’re going to be at Shands. There’s a lot of me that went into designing Shands and the new Cancer Hospital across the street. I’ll know where you are ‘cause I know my way around.

I’ve got a conundrum, Ped. I grew up liking Texas. Texas was always one of my favorite teams. Although I never was a Tide fan, they are in the SEC which makes it mandatory that I root for them. Besides, I’ve hiked with dayhiker and I’d root for his team just on the principle that he’s a good guy.

Yeah XL, Auburn started strong then tried to give it away. I hope Chizik turns them around. There’s no reason not to believe that a Florida alum can do anything.

My heart just sunk when McCoy went out. UT might have jumped out to a 14 point lead. They had 'Bama on their heels early - but with UT offense barely on the field - no way the defense can maintain the needed fire. I've been watching the UT defense tire a bit every possession.
