I say if Bama wins, arc has to drink a bottle of whiskey

Only if you give me your address and I get to drink the bottle with you there, violin. If you survive the night, you'll understand the stupidity of your comment. Me walking the streets drunk is a bad idea; a really bad idea. Especially when I'm drinking in a place I don't want to be.

What whiskey do you like, dayhiker? Jameson is quite good for an Irish whiskey.

But if you desire a true whiskey, a single-malt is best.

I recommend (in increasing order of excellence)-

Glenfiddich
Glenfarclas
Balvenie
Glen Grant

And I recommend these not just for obvious reasons. Speyside produces 50% of Scottish single-malts. These are all excellent examples.

I'll bet you your choice of whiskey if you win. You can buy me a bottle of Gatorade if I win.

So far, the Vol Nation is split about 50/50 on this hire. Only time will tell if it was a good move.

Nice story on Siran Stacy. Hope I never have to face times like he's faced, but I'm sure it means a lot to have your community behind you when things get really bad.

I'm working 3-11 the evening of the Tide-Gators game, but am hoping things will be slow enough that I get to catch some of the game. I'm expecting a great game.

The Sooners/Longhorns flip in the ranking isn't unreasonable. I'm not objective, but the Longhorns have a great case: the Longhorns beat the Sooners on neutral ground, while the 'Horns only loss was a squeaker at top team with frenzied hometown support after a bruising schedule. Its just another example of how unsatisfying a single BCS championship game is. At the very least, they should go back to the old bowl system and have a follow-up game (best would be to have the New Years Bowl games being round 1 or 2 of a series).

Try not to think too much, violin. It stinks up the place.

I have reconsidered the economic implications my offer, dayhiker. If I am to buy you a nice bottle of whiskey, you should be willing to endure more than the buying of a commodity that everyone with good moral values consumes on a daily basis.

I propose that, should Florida win, in addition to supplying me with said bottle of Gatorade, the next time we meet for a group hike that you wear a t-shirt of my choosing for the entire trip.

And I don’t mean that you wear it underneath your other clothing. I mean that you should proudly display the aforementioned t-shirt for everyone to see for the entire trip.

A good bottle of whiskey for Gatorade AND a t-shirt. That evens the point spread a bit.

How ‘bout them media guys raising the possibility of Tennessee being “racist” for not considering many qualified black coaches? Ya gotta love ‘em.

One thing I read a while back, maybe on TT, is that the NCAA changing the rule about private planes really put a damper on UT's recruiting since they've historically had to recruit nationally. For whatever reason, TN doesn't produce near as many Div I caliber football players as you'd think for the population base.

arc - I didn't reply about the bet since the two were so far out of align with each other. Nice bottle of whiskey versus $3 jug of gatorade. I'll pass on the t-shirt for a whole trip. Maybe one evening around a campfire. Maybe we have to post for a month with the handles of either:

dayhiker_gators_rule
arclite_bama_rules

or something like that.

I haven't forgotten about our offline discussion either. I'll follow back up on that in the next day or two.

Obama needs to get congress to arrange for SEC tickets for dayhiker and me. Then they need to declare that all private dwellings, within five miles of a college football stadium, will be painted in that team’s colors. Then they need to do away with the NCAA and make College Football Czar a cabinet level position.

Long live The State!!!

What were we thinking, Dunadan? Thanks for the wake up. North Carolina State beating Miami was impressive. Georgia Tech beating Georgia was impressive. But most impressive of all was the Jayhawks beating Missouri.

It was 72 here the other day. I hope all those Big 12 fans enjoyed sitting in the snow. I'll bet they'd all move to hell if there were jobs available.

Whiskey was probably an inappropriate bet considering there is no non-alcoholic beverage, that I like, that compares for price. But, despite the bargain price, Gatorade is worth its weight in gold. We appreciate your supporting the University of Florida with every purchase.

Dayhiker, you just don’t trust me with the t-shirt idea, huh? Too many scary possibilities?

That’s a different take, chili. The sports pundits I saw acted like Tennessee jumped on Kiffen because they wouldn’t even consider a black man for the job; a couple were pretty incensed. Come on Chili, admit it, yall are racists.

But then so is Notre Dame. The sports pundits also questioned how Notre Dame could consider keeping Weiss when Willingham was fired after the same time frame. The entire college football world knew all along that those Catholics are bigots. How racist can you get?

Apparently, Jessie and Al need to specialize in sports now. Heck, Obama will probably mandate a racial coaching quota based on affirmative action. He’ll solve everything.

You need to contact Obama about those ticks, gator. Maybe he'll create a committee to study the issue. Maybe if you tell him you're black?

Something like 96% of blacks voted for him? Nope nothing to see there, and that's why the media doesn't say much about it. They're too busy trying to shame white racists in the college football world. Don't you especially despise those racist southerners at Tennessee, and those bigoted Christians at Notre Dame?

In a head to head competition, #1 vs #1 to #12 vs #12, the ACC would probably win 8 or 9 of the games versus the SEC.

hahaha, except for the top 2 or 3 teams we own the SEC. Hell our last place team beat your middle team Vanderbilt. So did WF. Last week we went 3-1 against the SEC with our 3rd ranked team Georgia Tech beat your 3rd ranked team Georgia. For the season we went 6-4 against the SEC.

The SEC's bottom 6 would lose to anyone in the ACC (including Duke)

The ACC went 15-8 against BCS school.

(this is sour grapes here, but if my Wolfpack played USC now we would stomp a bloody hole in their backs. Grrrr, hated losing to them so bad in the 1st game of the season)

I was refering to Miami in 92. We were a 10-14 point underdog in the Sugar Bowl that season. We won something like 34-13. That game had one of the best plays ever, that didn't count. There was a penalty.

We had Miami so confused. We regularly lined up our D with all 11 on the LOS.

Rutgers put a hurting on Louisville last night. Some scenarios had the Wolfpack playing Rutgers in the Papajohns.com bowl. That would have been an interesting matchup - two teams that had dismal starts to the season but turned it around to get bowl eligible. I don't think it would be a game that defense enthusiast would enjoy. But with this win it looks like 7-5 Rutgers goes either to the Sun Bowl or the Motor City Bowl.

Ooooh... that was fun. I heard that Cardinals coach Kragthorpe is still huddled in a corner of the visitor's locker room.

If not for the sucky first half of the season, RU would be heading to the Orange Bowl. It looks like the 2nd best bowl in the Big east line-up (Sun) might pass on the 2nd best team in the league... we'll see. (Actually the way they're playing now, they might be the best.)

I pity the team that ends up matched with them in the post-season.
