dayhiker - Come on, now! Please give arclite a break. He does not write his comments. He just neglects to put quotation marks around them and insert acknowedgements.

And he trusts his sources. Previously, I showed that he fails to proofread all the material that he gathers. Even though he fumbles occasionally, he is still a good egg.

Actually, I'm proud of arclite. His remarks have improved! In case you have not noticed, for two weeks or longer, hs has not thrown any stones at the Big Ten. And after last Saturday, Illinois, Wisconsin and some others definintely deserved to be blasted!

Thanks Dunadan. I've been saying next year for years. Who knew next year would be this year? I was starting to sound like that old CCR song about "What if someday never comes...." Oh, and the season isn't even half over. We could still screw this up like we did last year.

Well, not to make your breakfast cereal taste bad, but I don't see anyone going undefeated this year. Like college basketball, college football is at a parity level unlike ever before. Also, this parity has temporarily left some powerhouse schools by the wayside, which is probably good for the game.
Anecdotal evidence is the two major schools in Kansas. When they can become noticeable on the national stage, the talent pool is being shared pretty fairly.
And, since the Jayhawks still have only one loss, I consider them solidly in the running for the national championship!
Quit laughing!

I don't think we'll go undefeated. I just hope we don't lose to UT or AU. We have to finally break that streak against Auburn. Before the season I thought we'd go about 8-4. The possibility of 10-2 or so is pretty dang exciting.

Penn State has a legit shot at running the table.. If they do, they will lose in the BCS championship, but unlike when 'the' OSU gets there, this might be a decent game..
(of course now PSU will go out and lay an egg next game)

Yo Chili, or any other vol fan. Latest rumor from the ACC is that ex-Miami and current coach at UNC Butch Davis' agent is talking to Tenn about their potential job opening. Is that a likely scenerio? the guy that posted this on a Wolfpack forum is the same guy that broke the information that Butch Davis was talking to Arkansas last year. That became such a hot topic that UNC gave a first year coach with only 4 wins that season a $300,000 raise to keep him.

I'm not laughing Dunadan. As of now, Kansas is solidly in the running. So are a whole bunch of teams. How 'bout them Cougars and Bulls?

We're still running a popularity contest. Until all conferences decide to move into the 20th (let alone 21st) century, and have a conference playoff, it'll stay that way.

Sheesh…and I thought the stupid comments were confined to the Economy Up thread where I’ve seen more clueless comments, from clueless people, than I thought possible.

Dayhiker, obviously you spend too much time with your pocket protector and leaky pens.

Some game stats list turnovers and turnovers lost. It saves space as opposed to listing fumbles/fumbles lost and interceptions as two separate entities. It lumps them all together, comprendo? Maybe your paper lists them as mighta-coulds and dida-woulds.

You keep depending on more experienced and knowledgeable fans for information. Someday you’ll have football memories you can call your own.

Is there a comparison between fans who always fill their stadium even when their team does not play well, and fans who don’t show up and have traditionally whined about finding another Bear?

Let’s see now, you constantly tell UF fans they have no tradition. You complain about UF running up the score on opponents. You talk about what a jerk UF’s unpopular coach was.

Meanwhile, you’re tradition is based on the memories of your ancestors during the time of Bear Bryant. Bama runs the score up on overmatched opponents and always has. The only people Spurrier was unpopular with were the media and its sycophants. Saban is unpopular with everyone even administrators, alumnae, ex-players, and especially ex-secretaries.

I think we can ask almost any SEC fan and they will talk about how sick they are of hearing about how great Bear Bryant was and how Bama is the class of the SEC because of what they did in the past.

There really is no comparison. It ain’t even close.

An engineering professor is walking across campus when he sees a fellow engineering professor ride up on a recumbent bicycle.

“Nice bike.” The first professor says. “Where did you get it?”

The second professor says, “Well, I was walking along when a beautiful girl rides up to me on this bike, strips off her cloths, and says, “Take anything you want.””

“Good choice.” Says the first engineering professor. “The cloths probably wouldn’t have fit.”

Hey nowlsimmer, if you move to Panama maybe you won’t have a computer. And if you don’t have a computer we wouldn’t be subjected to your weak arguments about the dink 10.

Bwaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha.

Every announcer on TV, every sports commentator, and every odds-maker in the country keeps talking about the SEC as the best conference by far.

I know you’re mad at being wrong every year. We all understand that you’re just taking out your frustrations with weak comments. Try to get over it. One day, even you may learn the error of your ways.

Holy Guacamole! I thought the season was over at halftime. Spotting a team 20 points is not a great way to win games. However, the Mighty Jayhawks are still in the running for beauty queen, as they win a squeaker, 35-33. I don't think this team can have a real strong season unless they make some quick and radical improvements.

Fortunately, we seem to have found ourselves a new QB. Sadly, we still suck as a team.

Georgia, Alabama will kill us. Vandy and Kentucky will probably beat us.

South Carolina is iffy.

Surely we can beat State and Wyoming.

We survived a big scare against UK. Coffee had over 200 yard rushing BUT fumbled 2x. One of them was inside the 5. I think Bama fans must have to have somthing to complain about. There is an 8 page thread on the football board I read about how bad the broadcast was from CBS. This must mean we're actually back because normally there is a 20 page thread about how badly we played. These people need to get a life.

Chili, the Vols and the Hogs should have played this year. It would be an interesting game. The fans would all have that wind blown look from the tornadic forces caused by all the sucking on the field. Even though we lost, there was some decent ball played for once. Maybe next year, we have the new coach and alot of freshmen playing.
Arc, congrats on the win.

Thanks, hillbilly. Arkansas hung tough for a while. They played well for most of three quarters. They just don't have it this year.

I was really sorry to see the Hogs lose so badly to Texas. I remember those games from the Big 8. That was a good rivalry. When Arkansas gets a good coach, they'll be back. There's no reason Arkansas shouldn't have a good program year-in-year-out.

Talk about the surprises of college football. Florida's defense is playing pretty well. The offense looks disorganized. This is exactly the opposite of what should have been. Some of the young studs on defense have really stepped up while the offense has disappointed. That offense should be great this year. They should look like some of the unstoppable Spurrier offenses of old. They're fast and talented. Instead, they look very inconsistent.

That's what it takes to win a MNC in the SEC, dayhiker. You've got to win a couple of squeakers from the supposedly weaker teams. Games where the coach SAYS he's going to get the team up, but they sure don't look like they came to play. At least they had enough guts to win and stay undefeated. If you can't get up for LSU and Auburn, you shouldn't be playing.

Bama's still lookin' good. Right now, they look like they can play with anyone. They should be in the mix for the next few years, at least. All they need to do is get out of the SEC unscathed. Good luck with that.

I don’t know, chili, I’m thinking that with the correct color orange, not some washed out baby-puke orange, you’d look pretty good.

You could even have a big F on the front just to show everyone that you make Fantastic chili, or that you’re Fun, or that you like being in the Forest.

Weeelll, not to be a fashion designer, but maybe you’re right. I still get this image of The Great Pumpkin. Not that you're fat or anything. You're just great.

Black and gold would look good on you. Blue and Grey wouldn’t be bad either.

Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!
KU downed Colorado and made it look good in the 4th quarter. Up until then, it was closer than close, 16 to 14. Two quick touchdowns in the last quarter gives KU some momentum. Positive aspects of this game is; 1. Established a respectable running game, 2. Defense was solid, scoring a safety at one point.
Now, it's on to Norman to face the angry Sooners.

Even though I stupidly took Oklahoma (giving 6), it was nice to see Texas win. From the time I was a kid, on a national level, I’ve always liked Texas, USC, Michigan, Penn. St., Arkansas, and LSU. It was nice to see Texas play well in a good game. Congratulations, pedxing.

In spread betting, I won my Florida (giving 6) game and my UCLA (getting 20) game. I was going to bet South Carolina getting 3 or Army in a pick’em game. After reading all the comments by the media “pundits” I stupidly changed my mind. I’m still 13-8 picking against the spread so far this year. And some of these “pundits” are bragging about having 70% records just picking winners. Sometimes I’m an idiot for taking those folks more seriously than they deserve. Hopefully I’m getting better at not being such a huge idiot and, hopefully, I’ll be less of an idiot in the future. I can always hope.

Texas, Alabama, Penn St., USC, Texas Tech., Florida, Georgia, BYU, LSU, even Ohio St….

How do you sort that out without a playoff? Anyone who thinks this current system is a good one must have loved how national champions were determined in the past. When it was just the AP popularity poll it was a total sham. There was never anything good, or accurate, about how the college football world determined its best team. It’s not much better now. Until we get a playoff it’s still a joke every year.

USC was shut out the last couple of years for having a letdown game. Whether USC is as good as anyone should be decided on the field. Unfortunately, with that lucrative Rose Bowl tie-in, neither the Pac, nor Dink 10s have enough incentive for a playoff yet.

And will someone please tell me why Notre Dame still has their own TV network? I’m certainly not watching any of those games. There isn’t enough beer in the world to get me to watch those games.

I may not like Ohio St. fans, but I think it’s a shame how the media has now created a negative mind-set about The Ohio St. They’re minimizing The Ohio St. probably because they were proved wrong in the last two MNC games. It’s a shame to see those young kids pay for the mistakes of the media. I think it’s affecting their play. There almost seems to be a loss of confidence at The Ohio St. Not that The Ohio St. didn’t bring a lot of that down on themselves, but I think the media is overreacting… again.

The Penn St./ The Ohio St. showdown looks to be very interesting.

I’d love to hear Mark May's comments now. Maybe I missed them. Last night I watched an ESPN recap of Saturday. Mark and Lou weren’t on the program. Before the games, Lou was talking about how Oklahoma St. could win the game against Missouri. May dismissed him out of hand with one of his typically smug comments saying, to the effect, that Oklahoma St. stood no chance. May also confidently predicted an LSU win, “Because of LSU’s rushing game.”

LSU had 80 yards rushing. That is a powerful rushing game? Florida had 265 rushing yards. THAT’S a rushing game.

It’s too bad I didn’t get to see May explain how he could be so terribly wrong. But then current society seems to be built around the dysfunctional habit of never admitting mistakes.

Good lord I despise the media. It’s a good thing I’m not in the public spotlight because, like Steve Spurrier (who couldn’t contain his disdain for the media), they’d write all sorts of half-truths and outright lies about me.

I can be unpopular all by myself thankyouverymuch.

Arc - interesting thoughts. I'd hope May would be willing to eat some crow publicly. I'd love to see people involved in the Sports biz pay more heed to the fact that a lot of young kids learn a lot of life's lessons in the sports world and its not just the players kids learn from. Honesty, accountability, acknowledging adversity in a positive constructive way should all be on display.

As for the BCS, I've wished they'd play the traditional bowl games by traditional rules - not getting them tangled up in the BCS and then have playoffs with the top four teams. Not sure what that would do to the academic year, but I can't imagine there would be a huge trauma if Spring semester was scheduled to start a week or two later than it is currently.
