The locals are in a frenzy. By the UGA game all you'll hear is how we're going to run the table. Bama fans and reality are sometimes not quite aligned. Again, Sat was a great win, but Clemson is NOT a top 10 quality team.” 1:23:05 PM 9/02/08 “Come on DH, Clemson is not even in the top 25 any more. Illinois is and they lost. Alabama should be right behind Florida who should be no. 1 or 2. When OSU gets beat by 100 points in a couple of weeks by USC, they will fal a spot or 2, that is it.” 1:33:38 PM 9/02/08 “If we win against UGA, then we'll need to be top 10. Until then, high teens is just fine by me.” 1:37:13 PM 9/02/08 “I would prefer that Tennessee goes 0-12 this year. Then, not only will Fulmer get run out of town, they will burn his house and change the name of the street that bears his name.” 2:16:52 PM 9/02/08 “LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! Nigal, you are one sick puppy! MY MOM DIED LAST YEAR! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! Now we’ll have to add necrophilia to your long list of perversions. I’ll bet the ashes made your weasel turn black! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! Good lord I’m choking here. Dang Nigal, you just made my day! Pinkbubbelz, Dayhiker and I were talking about seeing weird symbols and fonts in the posts. I saw some strange symbols in yours, and in other posts. That’s all, I meant no devious nastiness. What is it with you folks today? Did you take silly pills? And, what's with the offensive attitude towards everything?! pinkbubelz 7:00:48 AM 9/02/08 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! Man, now my stomach seriously hurts. Pink, haven’t you been around here a while? I do my best obnoxious butthead shtick here every year. It’s sort of an id response to the obnoxiousness I see in the media and many sports fans. I keep telling myself I’ll tone it down this year, but I keep finding reasons to dial up and go waaaaay over the top. This year it’s Buddha Bear’s turn. The guy is such a poor sport I can’t help pounding him. We all have our moments, and I’m sure he’s probably a nice guy, but on this thread it’s TAKE NO PRISONERS…KEEL HAUL THE SCURVY DOGS…aaaaaaaaahhrrrrrrrrrrrr. Seriously, I have moments of lucidity between spitting green pea soup. Chili, snap out of that funk, son. UCLA looked pretty good. We know that they have great coaches. I’m just surprised at how quickly they’ve been able to improve on an already decent UCLA team. And how about Craft? I never would have thought he’d look so good in the second half. Nothing before the game, or during the first half, prepared us for what he did in the second half. There is truth to what longlosthiker said last year. It’s tough to travel all the way across country and play a decent team in their home. I remember when we pounded USC here. We were stronger the next year but we traveled to LALA land and had to settle for a tie with them. You knew Tennessee was picked to finish behind Jawja and Florida in the east this year. That’s what the pundits said last year and look who played in the SEC Championship Game for the right to pound those suck-butt losers from The Ohio State. last edited: 9/03/08 9:28:28 PM” 9:25:17 PM 9/03/08 “you traveled to USC and settled for a tie? When did this occur? Surely you're not talking about games pre-1990? That's the dark ages and before the existance of UF football. Ties were abolished maybe late 90's? You're not the only one pounding BB. He's taken a couple of nasty ones from UF, UF again, and most recently LSU. I asked an Aubie friend how many delusional Alabama fans he's talked to this week. He said, "everyone I've talked to..."” 4:42:26 AM 9/04/08 “The games were in 83-84, Dayhiker. I was in the stadium when Wilber Marshall personally wrecked the USC backfield by chasing their option down from behind. You were probably still wetting your bed. You certainly weren't in college, sitting in the stadiums, or knowing anything about college football. Once again you show your ignorance, and outright lies, of Florida "tradition." How 'bout that Egyptian Empire?” 12:53:16 PM 9/04/08 “I was around 12. So I wasn't wetting my bed, but probably still trick or treated. 1983, you tied USC 19-19. UF was 9-2-1 and USC was 4-6-1. Wow, you did settle for a tie against a much weaker team. In looking for that info I was reminded that UF's FIRST SEC championship happened in 1991. 1990 has an asterisk. What, nothing before Spurrier stepped on campus?” 1:47:29 PM 9/04/08 “Oops! Sorry 'bout that arc. I don't usually go for the "mama" jokes but you're a good sport.” 2:23:19 PM 9/04/08 “There is no history at UF before Spurrier. It took a Tennessee boy to put them on the map.” 4:00:54 PM 9/04/08 “We supposedly won the SEC in 1984. That has an asterix thanks to good ol' Cheatin' Charley Pell. Dayhiker, let’s not forget that when it comes to college football, YOU HAVE NO TRADITION! You seem to think that winning equates to "history" and "tradition.". Rutgers and Princeton fans would disagree that they have no “history.” Lehigh and Lafayette fans would disagree that they have no “history.” “They have no history!” So sayeth the gospel according to our new lord and savior, Dayhiker, and his little dog, chili, too. Much like the dink 10, we all know that the SEC did not play everyone in the conference and did not have a playoff before 1992. SEC championships can always be questioned before 1992 when the championship made sure the SEC title was decided on the field. No sporting title is ever truly decided by popularity contest. You seem to think that popularity polls are an important part of life. You’re a sad, sad man, if you live your life according to the opinions of others. Even Hollywood doesn’t get it right at the Oscars and they’re in the popularity poll business. The fact is that if by “history” you mean winning championships, then Bama doesn’t have much honest history. Most of those so-called championships weren’t won on the field they were won in the press room. Many football fans discount championships won before when the AP started voting for their favorites. There is just as much reason to dismiss the AP polls as there is to dismiss the popularity contest before them. But that’s how folks from Notre Dame and Bama can discount the fact that Yale has won more championships than either of those schools. It’s a nice justification for liars. Every year since the BCS, and its playoff progenitors, we see the accuracy of the AP polls. The preseason polls don’t look a thing like the end-of-year polls. And you trust their popularity poll judgment? We saw that same level of accuracy in 2006 at the end of the year. And you trust their popularity poll judgment? We saw that same level of accuracy in 2007 at the end of the year. And you trust their popularity poll judgment? Shall we go back to the beginning of time to see how wrong one of the world’s least respected professions judges football champions? But you take past AP polls as gospel. Well of course you do. Because you think it makes your granddaddy’s team look good. Apparently you have a tradition of being self-serving. Much of Alabama’s “tradition” was created in the 70’s. It went hand in hand with our great “tradition” of disco. Since 1980, Florida has been in the top 20 popularity polls more often than Bama. Florida has won two mythical championships to Bama’s one. Florida set an SEC record by winning at least 10 games every year for 8 years. Florida has had two Heisman winners to Bama’s….? Florida has had two Maxwell winners to Bama’s….? Florida has had two Walter Camp winners to Bama’s….? Florida has had one Sammy Baugh winner to Bama’s….? Florida has had three Davey O’Brian winners to Bama’s….? Florida has had one Jim Thorpe winner to Bama’s….? Florida has had one Johnny Unitas winner to Bama’s….? Florida has had one Johnny Lou Groza winner to Bama’s….? Florida has had one Draddy winner to Bama’s….? Florida is 2-1 against Alabama in SEC championship games. Florida has won the SEC 9 times to Bama’s 4. History has to start somewhere. It started at Rutgers. It continued with Yale and Harvard. It continued with Army. It continued with Notre Dame. It continued with Michigan, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Miami. Some colleges got lucky and got good coaches, some didn’t. Some used what are now banned recruiting practices, some didn’t. Some lowered their academic standards, some didn’t. If winning under those circumstances is what you refer to as “tradition”, you are a sad excuse. Florida Football began in 1906. One of the nation’s oldest continuous rivalries, the Florida/Georgia game, started in 1914. Bama started their biggest rivalry with Auburn in 1893, suspended it in 1907, and then resumed play in 1948, You call that “tradition”? Since 1920, the singing of the Florida Alma Mater after the end of the third quarter is one of the oldest continuous traditions in all of college football. In 1949 the iconic cheerleader Mr. Two Bits attended his first game and began the tradition of leading the fans in the "two bits" cheer (You may have noticed that the ESPN announcers often make reference to someone off-camera they refer to as Mr. Two Bits). One of the most iconic, and ubiquitous, traditions in college football is pouring the bucket of Gatorade on the head coach after a big win. In 1965 Gatorade was invented at The University of Florida by Dr. Robert Cade in order to rehydrate the Florida football players (Alabama scientists created Tidey Bowl toilet cleaner in an effort to reduce that nasty smell coming from Alabama). In 1966 Spurrier won the Heisman. In 1979-1980 the Gators set an NCAA record for win differential (this has since been surpassed). Florida football has been recognized as a “Major College Dynasty” by the NCAA. Florida ranks fourth among all colleges for most consecutive stadium sellout games behind Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Michigan. Florida is the first school ever to win national championships in both football and basketball in the same year. Florida is second in the nation (only to Miami) for the consecutive number of years they’ve had a player drafted in the first round – 9. Bama doesn’t make the top 10. Florida is seventh in the nation for the most years they’ve had a player drafted in the first round – 28. Bama is ninth. Florida, along with Alabama, is the only school in SEC history to win four consecutive league championships (1993-96) UF is the only team in SEC history to win 8 or more conference games for four straight seasons. Florida is the only school in SEC history to win six or more league games in a season for more than six straight years. UF did this 14 straight years. Florida is the only school in SEC history to post a perfect 9-0 record in back to back seasons. Florida is the only team in SEC history, and one of only four in major college history, to finish in the top 15 of the polls for 12 straight years. Florida is one of only 3 schools in major college history, and the only one in the SEC, to ever win nine or more games in a season for twelve consecutive years. UF is the only team in modern major college history to ever score 500 or more points for a period of four straight years. Florida is one of six major college programs in history to win 100 games in a decade. Florida ranks fourth among all colleges for most consecutive finishes in the AP top 15. Bama is sixth. Florida ranks third among all colleges for most consecutive weeks in the AP polls with 202. Bama is fourth with 184. Florida ranks third among all colleges for most consecutive nine win seasons. Bama is fourth. UF is the only team in SEC history to win 10 or more games for six straight seasons and one of only three schools in major college history to achieve that feat. Florida is the only university to have a Heisman winning sophomore. Florida now has more “tradition” than Bama ever had with their AP popularity poll championships. Florida is still creating tradition while Bama is still living in the past. 50 years from now all Bama will have is a few AP popularity contests to show, while Florida’s “tradition” will continue to be one of the best in the nation. Did Florida get a later start at becoming a game-winning national football power than some? Who cares? Everyone has that distinction compared to Yale and Harvard. You don’t hear Yale and Harvard whining about their football “tradition” now. So why do Bama fans whine so loudly? Could it be that football is the only distinguishing thing about that school? You certainly don’t hear Bama fans proudly laud their great history of academics. Graduating with a degree in sports management, while having played football, may be the most respected thing a Bama grad can achieve. Bama has a proud “tradition” of low graduation rates for its athletes. THAT is Alabama’s legacy to college football. Dayhiker, envy is a terrible thing for you to display. The fact is, Florida has been consistently better than Bama for longer than 30 years. Florida has erased and surpassed many of Alabama’s “traditions” and made them our own. You’re full of crappola about “tradition.” When the NCAA recognizes your program as a “Major College Dynasty” you’ve got “tradition.” You can babble on with your lies, Dayhiker (and your mangy lapdog, chili). Repeating lies doesn’t make them true. last edited: 9/05/08 1:24:18 AM” 1:22:53 AM 9/05/08 “You can babble on with your lies, Dayhiker (and your mangy lapdog, chili). He's saying his school is better than mine. I think arc feels that the more he types the more it validates his opinion. It's sort of like those academic magazines he follows that no one else reads. I look at it more like the tree in the woods. If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one to hear it, does it really make a sound. In the case of arc, I think the answer is no. If no one bothers to read your books, are you, like Florida, really relevant? Uh, no. At best, he's a yapper dog like Paris Hilton's chiuahua.” 4:43:04 AM 9/05/08 “Jesus H. Christ. Dayhiker, to each his own. I’ll enjoy Florida’s tradition and history of filling our stadium even when our team isn’t winning. You enjoy your tradition and history of only filling your stadium when your team is winning. I’ll enjoy Florida’s tradition and history of singing the Alma Matter at the end of the third quarter. You enjoy your tradition and history of Rammer Jammer I’ll enjoy Florida’s tradition and history of having one of the oldest continuous rivalries in the nation. You enjoy your tradition and history of not having that. I’ll enjoy Florida’s tradition and history of contributing something as important as Gatorade to the entire college football world. You enjoy your tradition and history of winning AP popularity polls for Bama. I’ll enjoy Florida’s tradition and history of maintaining high academic standards and high graduation rates for its athletes. You enjoy your tradition and history of … well… how ‘bout that Alabama weather? I’ll enjoy Florida’s continuing tradition and history of setting records and maintaining its place among college football’s elite winning programs. You enjoy your tradition and history of … well… how ‘bout that Alabama weather? Dayhiker, with your philosophy of history and tradition, you should move to Iraq where they have the tradition and history of being “the cradle of civilization.” Good luck with that too. last edited: 9/05/08 12:51:37 PM” 12:51:21 PM 9/05/08 “I'll try to limit my posts to sound bites (yeah, buhleeeve dat), realizing that I'm dealing with folks who talk about tradition and history while having the attention span of gnats.” 1:03:38 PM 9/05/08 “To use your own philosophy, show me where I've said those things are my history and tradition. You get very upset when people put words in your mouth. Why do that to me? The Golden Rule is pretty important in Alabama. I'm sorry that it evidently isn't that big of a deal in NJ South. Just as a reminder of what the Golden Rule is, it's that whole "Do unto others..." thing.” 7:02:57 AM 9/06/08 “I fail to see FLorida listed on the list below From wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_undefeated_Division_I_football_teams Surely you're not suggesting that being undefeated is a popularity contest? Generation duhbya can be characterized by their extremely myopic, self-centered view of the world. Since they don’t remember college football before 1990, they try to lecture people with far more experience about how their “tradition” and “history” didn’t begin until 1990. These bed wetting generation duhbya sycophants think the world begins and ends with them. They will go to any lengths to make themselves appear important. Even to the point of dredging up events long before their awareness. They think to make themselves look good, while conveniently ignoring reality. They take self-centered to a whole new level. You will never hear me try to lecture a fart like nowlsimmer about “tradition” and “history.” I realize that this sad old geezer has had to listen to college football while huddled around a radio that took up half of his living room. He watched college football back when stadiums were lit by oil lamp. He rode to games by horse and buggy, back when the dink-10 had relevancy to a small percentage of the population. Now that the dink-10 has no relevancy to anyone, we must take pity on him, not lecture him about “tradition” and “history.” But young bed wetters like Dayhiker have no concept that the world does not begin and end with them. They conveniently ignore the fact that, for today’s recruits, the only “tradition” and “history” they know is that Bama fans keep living in the past. And the only past Bama can cling to is their collection of popularity polls. last edited: 9/07/08 6:27:21 AM” 6:23:03 AM 9/07/08 “Kansas 29, Louisiana Tech 0. And where did this person first play football? I hope someday all of you football fans, and basketball fans, get to experience the Rock Chalk chant. It is truly something to behold. Thankfully, they didn't play it this past weekend. RJ is absolutely for a big game like Clemson though. They talked crap all week and then we put a foot in their ass on national TV. Go White! :-) Go Spartans! :-) Oh, and I've been around since 2004, although work's gotten in the way of reading and posting on TT in the last 2 years! last edited: 9/08/08 2:33:02 PM” 2:31:56 PM 9/08/08 “Pink, and in that four-year time you've been thinking my posts were serious? I don't know what kind of people you know, but I sure wouldn't want to know anyone like me. Michigan St./Michigan could be a good one this year. My money's on Mich. St. right now. And yessmamm, Sparty is a decent mascot. It sure is a whole lot better than Bozo Buckeye. That thing looks like you tried to get a downs syndrome kid to imitate one of those yellow happy face stickers. All that’s missing is the drool. However, ol’ Bozo does have a striped shirt. And a striped shirt sort of looks like what they wear on a chain gain. And what chain gang wouldn't be loaded with The Ohio State players, cheating alumnae, or rioting students? So at least Bozo Buckeye is an honest representation of The Ohio State. last edited: 9/08/08 3:37:54 PM” 3:33:54 PM 9/08/08 “Every time I listen to Steely Dan I think of Dayhiker... Gee, it sure seems as though the entire country has The Ohio State fans pegged. I am really looking forward to TOSU/USC. The spread is 7.5 today. Jim Rome doesn't think it's going to be close. I hope he's wrong. Other games I'll be interested in: Kansas/S.Florida Navy/Duke Jawja/S.Carolina Next week is big time! last edited: 9/10/08 2:54:43 PM” 2:54:28 PM 9/10/08 “But Arc, you forgot to mention the Michigan Notre Dame game in your list of great match ups! ![]() "Michigan vs. Notre Dame: Like watching bums fight...only slower."” 3:00:53 PM 9/10/08 “I didn't forget, Nigal. But I was thinking of you as I hit submit. I love Michigan (I always like the scenes in The Big Chill when they gather to watch the game), but watching that game may prove very painful. I like to root for Rutgers too, but their last game was excruciatingly painful to watch.” 4:55:13 PM 9/10/08 “You should have beeen there. I still have the emotional scars.” 5:50:48 PM 9/10/08 “Is arclite sick or something? His posts seem rather short.” 3:53:25 AM 9/11/08 “And nice too. Yall should win by 40 even if playing while drunk.” 9:04:59 AM 9/11/08 “yeah, we should, but 'fulmerball' generally plays down to the level of the competition.” 9:13:23 AM 9/11/08 “We always manage to play to our level. Playing drunk is definately on our level. We squeak that win out and Fulmer will get burned out. We lose and he will need the Highway Patrol to get off the field.” 11:06:55 AM 9/11/08 “My wife just informed me she scored 3 tickets to the UAB game though her employer. If we lose this game, I will never go to another UT game in my life.” 1:39:04 PM 9/11/08 “sweet chili! i hope its a friggin BLOWOUT! Need to see how many pushups the cheerleaders really can do.” 1:43:23 PM 9/11/08 “What a #&%!$ing knightmare!” 5:11:53 AM 9/12/08 “I couldn't watch it all, Violin. There were reruns of Three's Company to be had. We fired The Zooker because he was a terrible game day coach. It appears as if there will be more grumbling from Tennessee and Rutgers if this sort of thing continues. The talent is certainly there at Tennessee. Not only have I been unimpressed with Schiano's game plans, but Rutgers looks slow. That's a death sentence in today's game. Another good point was made by Lou Holtz and Mark May while discussing South Carolina. Spurrier just hasn't been able to convince his players that they should expect to win. It shows in their play. As bad as Notre Dame has been, they probably pulled off another last-minute win largely because anyone who plays for Notre Dame just expects to win. They did it against us one year when we probably had the better team. Kansas/South Carolina. It should be interesting to watch. I know Dunadan is all fired up! I can tell by his posts.” 9:17:58 AM 9/12/08 “I know my enthusiasm is quite contagious. Thanks for outing me, Arc. Even though my Jersey/Floridian friend is a little confused between South Florida and South Carolina, it still should be a game worth watching. Keep an eye on our little quarterback. He's a real hoot to watch. Also, number 10, our second string QB works as a receiver, and has been very effective at that position. I don't know how Vegas sees this game, but it will be a big one for either team to win. ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK K! U!” 1:41:30 PM 9/12/08 “I hope Dunadan didn't go over the edge last night. Unfortunately, I know exactly how he feels.” 5:42:37 AM 9/13/08 Jump to Page << prev
