At least Michigan was a senior laden team playing their last game for their coach. And at least Michigan finished the season ranked in the top 20. Where did Cal disappear to? After hearing longlosthiker whine so much about the VOLS tough non-conference schedule, had how tough it was to play Cal, you’d at least have thought Cal would finish the season ranked somewhere. I’m sure longlosthiker thought so.


I’m just hoping Tennessee doesn’t screw the pooch again.

“Watching the Delaware game, I was thinking about the winged helmets they wear. Looking just like Michigan’s, I wondered whose came first?

The announcers answered the question for me. The winged helmet started at Princeton. So I looked it up online.

Fritz Crisler first debuted the winged helmet at Princeton University in 1935. When Crisler was hired by the University of Michigan he brought the new helmet style with him.

We know most Mid-Western folk are pretty dull, but now we also know that Michigan people aren’t creative or original thinkers. If I were a Michigan fan, I wouldn’t go talking about how other teams change their uniforms considering Michigan’s helmets were ripped off from an Ivey League team to begin with.

Every week the dink 10 shows how dull they are.




Does anyone know anything more about Beanie Wells? What a shame to loose such a huge talent in a basically meaningless game. I’d hate to see TOSU go up against USC at less than full strength. Injuries are obviously part of the game but this appears to be really bad timing. I hope he makes it back to full strength next week or at least in time for USC.




Man what a great game! Our four block seats were from the 46 to the 48 yard line. We were 11 rows up, right behind the Gator bench. It rained right before the game began and was cloudy all game. There was a nice breeze and it felt like the temps were in the 70s or low 80s. It was beautiful.

The score was so lopsided because Hawaii turned the ball over 6 times. Florida didn’t score in either the first or fourth quarters. 56 points came in the second and third quarters. The Florida defense scored twice off turnovers. Brandon James returned a punt 74 yards for a touchdown. He has blazing speed (As one magazine put it, “There’s fast, there’s Florida fast, and there’s Brandon James”). He may be the best kick returner in the nation.

If Florida isn’t the fastest team in the nation I love to know who is. Holy Cow! Chris Rainey, Brandon James, and Jeffrey Demps (freshman who owns the fastest 100-meter time of any high school athlete) are so fast they could team up with Percy Harvin (out indefinitely) and have a good shot at an Olympic 4X100 medal. On one play, Demps took a handoff and ran down the sideline. A Hawaii cornerback was 15 yards downfield and took a great angle for the tackle. Demps ran past him so fast the guy didn’t have a chance. The Hawaii cornerback dove at Demps and still didn’t come close as Demps blew past him easily for a 62 yard score. He ran right in front of our seats and my jaw was dropped.

Florida doesn’t have to worry about running backs this year. They should have a good running game with a stable of at least four productive backs. Florida’s loaded at receiver. They also have two great tight ends. The O-line is big, deep, and experienced.

The D-line looks to be much improved but did not appear dominant. The linebackers were good not great. All-American Brandon Spikes was out for the game. The secondary was susceptible to the short crossing route. Good passing teams may be able to exploit Florida’s secondary once again. But as the season goes along, they’ll get better.

Florida appears big, fast, talented, and tough. I still think they’re a year away. But if Florida develops chemistry, the D-line gets some pressure, and the secondary can hold its own, Florida will be in the mix.”

I love to hear you guys from the has-beens. Dayhiker, Florida has a much richer tradition during your lifetime than does Bama. I'm sure if you were Italian you'd still be talking about the glory of Rome to justify how great you are.

I think Bama is legit. They looked very balanced and played typical, hard-nosed, Bama football. But they're still young and inexperienced. They'll have mental breakdowns this season....just like you.

I must admit, my motivations are somewhat self-serving.


I believe we'll find out how good Florida is after Tennessee....and after LSU...and after Jawja...and after the entire conference schedule. We'll also know something after Miami...and after FSU, although both programs are down from their usual standards.

It's one thing to be good for a couple of games. It's another thing to survive a tough year. Ain't that what makes the SEC so much fun?

For everyone who missed the end of the Tennessee/UCLA game, yall missed a great one!

Tennessee marches for a touchdown to go ahead by 4 with 1:50 left. After the kickoff, UCLA marches about 70 yards and scores a touchdown with 27 seconds left. UCLA kicks off and Tennessee gets the ball on the 43. They march close enough to try a 47 yard field goal when their kicker’s longest is 48 yards. He makes the kick and the game goes into overtime. UCLA makes a field goal. Tennessee misses one from 34 yards.

Does it get any better? Well, I certainly wish Tennessee had won, but that was a FANTASTIC FINISH!

My take is that UCLA looked good as opposed to Tennessee looking bad. Neuheisle and Chow have got something going. And they got it going quickly. Craft did one heck of a job in the second half. His stats were an amazing turnaround. I thought Tennessee had a descent passing game, good running game, and pretty good defense.

But Tennessee will need to step it up for Florida. I don’t think that will be a problem considering Tennessee will be motivated from this loss. They’ll be motivated for the SEC east. And they’ll be motivated for their home crowd. I think Florida/ Tennessee will be a good game as always.”
