“Hey Dayhiker I just got home from BAMA. We were tailgateing on the Quad yesterday right by the mound. I was looking for you the whole time but,I did't have your phone number.

We had a great time with some of our BAMA friends. Friday night we ate at Chuck's Fish and went to the Coppertop Bar. Saturday we started out at the Houndstooth then met up with some folks on the Quad. The atmosphere in the stadium was great. Crisp cool clear weather and SEC football are hard to beat.

But in the third quarter Wisconsin tied the game and then quickly went ahead 17-10. Oh happy day! But they must have made Ohio State mad because four touchdowns by Ohio State produced their victorius lead of 38-17 and the Badgers left the field with their tails dragging between their legs!”

It's too overwhelming to think about anything other than playing Oklahoma State next Saturday in Stillwater. So, all of the folks cheering the Jayhawks, (one of the great mascots of ALL times...), it is sincerely appreciated. You know, of course, that if Kansas loses one game this season, they will be dropped in the polls like a hot potato. It used to happen to K-State all the time. When your school is in a sparsely populated state and has little football tradition, the sports writers tend to dismiss you easily.
So.... there's no reason to get hopeful just yet. Oklahoma State and Missouri could ruin the perfect season. And Iowa State has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Let's see how it all plays out.

Its his first year there and it would be funny as hell if he bolted for Arkansas after all those blue fairies emptied their piggy banks to get. Oregon: John Edwards A good-looking team with an engaging personality, but the Ducks' stance on defensive issues is wanting. Do they have the substance to go all the way?

Oklahoma: Barack Obama Here's a team that looks like BCS material, and it has all the resources in the world. But its potential continues to outweigh its performance. Maybe the next race?

Kansas: Mike Huckabee A plucky candidate that can't get anyone to pay attention, the Jayhawks keep hanging around, charming people and slowly moving their way up the polls.

West Virginia: Mitt Romney The Mountaineers have great numbers and a wide-open attack, but they have done nothing to assure the voters they have the gravitas to make it to the top.

USC: Fred Thompson The Trojans get a bump from their Hollywood connection, but once they got on the stump, they looked nothing at all like a BCS candidate.

Hawaii: Ron Paul No matter how the Warriors perform, no matter how much support they drum up among the public, the opinion-makers never will take them seriously.

“Here's a small history lesson for you, toejam. Although for many years, Kansas has played with no-name players, the school does have some great players in its past.
Gale Sayers went on to play for Chicago Bears. My favorite running back of all time.
John Riggins went on to play for the Washington Redskins and helped them win a Super Bowl.
Bobby Douglass played for Chicago Bears.
Dana Stubblefield played for San Francisco 49'ers as a great defensive lineman.
Nolan Cromwell played with the LA Rams and is a multiple season pro-bowler.

It’s an amazing occurrence! Just imagine! The big ten title will be decided when Michigan plays Ohio St. By gosh we hardly ever see that!

The real reason the big-ten doesn’t have a championship game (although they’ll never admit it) is that it would be redundant. Only a moron believes a two-team conference is strong.


I watched both Michigan/Wisconsin and Ohio St./Illinois. I’ve seen better peewee league teams. But it was interesting seeing both teams exposed BEFORE they actually play a bowl game. SEC reject Zook may become the greatest coach in the big-ten.

Meanwhile the SEC has 10 eligible bowl teams (with the possibility of 11). Nobody has a lock on the conference title until we stop beating the snot out of each other. And the SEC actually has some teams that are worthy of playing for the mythical national championship game once again.


Have you ever looked upon anything as ugly as an Ohio St. fan? As the cameras panned the crowds it became obvious that those are the saddest looking trailer trash rejects I’ve ever seen. They looked like a bunch of gulag Russians. What a bunch of apparatchiks and babushkas. What a sad, run-down, worn-out, collection of humanity.

At least we don’t have to listen to how great is the overrated team from Ohio State. And I’m gonna write in to ask the TV stations to hire announcers with an IQ over 50 if I hear how Ohio State has the greatest defense in college football one more time.

They play in the big-ten for God’s sake! Their “AWESOME” defense dropped their Telletubby diapers last year. How much empirical evidence is enough to shut these morons up? Every year they rev up their little energizer bunny mouths and keep repeating BS.

One of the sorriest sights in college football is watching an over-hyped, overrated, #1 big-ten team lose to an unranked under-achiever. Ohio State sucks. They got Zooked. We can only hope the media doesn’t come to their emotional rescue. They don’t deserve to waste the space of a more deserving team in a good bowl.

But having come back, let me notify you that you’re on my list. I bet Wisconsin to cover the spread two times this year. Each game they didn’t live up to preseason hype and stunk up the field. This week I go and bet Michigan to cover the spread and Wisconsin plays their best game of the year.

Florida is having a slightly worse season than I expected, slim. That defense really is young and Meyer had been afraid to let them go to man. That soft zone just wasn't cutting it. We clearly saw how the soft zone doesn't work against a good team when Florida shredded Ohio State's young defense last year. I'm not sure what Tressel and Meyer are thinking but, when you're as good as Tressel and Meyer, I certainly won't question how you want to develop your players.

Florida is starting to play more man now. We loaded up on talent in the secondary over the past two recruiting classes. They’re just young.

Major Wright is an animal! Considering he’s a true freshman, we won’t have many worries at safety for a couple of years anyway.


Then there are injuries. We've been banged up all year. Somebody good has been injured every week. Part of that is luck and part of that is playing in a conference where every single game is a war. The SEC traditionally has had games decided by the fewest points. It's hard to take out your starters, protect them from late game injuries, and give your backups experience, when it's a close game.

Close games are probably why many people underestimated Florida last year.

Don't underestimate LSU if they win the SEC. That's a very solid team.


Personally, I’m relieved not to be playing LSU in the SEC championship. I want the SEC to go to the title game and I can’t root for Florida to lose. I like both Tennessee and LSU but LSU has the best shot at winning it all.

That, and I’ve got this buddy who graduated from LSU. Funny story:

I came into work one day and told one of the guys that I had forgot my buddy’s birthday. He gave me this blank, “Yeah, so what” stare. Then I told him my buddy is a girl. The reaction was immediate: “Oh man, are you gonna pay!” I repeated the story to three different guys at the office. Their before and after reactions were exactly the same… big deal, then impending doom for me and my absent-mindedness. Some things are just gender specific.

I can deal with chili, longlost, and roamaround, … but there would be years of pain involved if I didn’t root for her team to win it all.

If mama ain’t happy, ain’t NOBODY happy.

Now, about them Jayhawks. I like to think I'm close to being in touch with reality, so I'll tell all of you the truth. Do I think that KU can beat any team in the nation, just because they are THE ONLY BCS TEAM STILL UNDEFEATED???? Heck no. I could be wrong, and I sure as heck hope I am, but I think there are a couple of monster one-loss teams that could handle the Jayhawks. However, it isn't a tournament, and when it's only one game on the line, a team with lesser talent can win. Also, parity is getting greater in football just like in basketball. So....in conclusion, the Jayhawks need only to play Iowa State like a victory is the only thing that will keep their momma out of prison.
