No they don't, but they're a traditional rival that's benefited from our stupidity. Fulmer is something like 11-5 against us. Any win against UT or AU is a big win.

Good quote I just found:

Vandy beats South Carolina and Steve Spurrier says he's not embarrassed by losing to Vandy, "They've lost to Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia. If they had played 3 nobody's they could be in the BCS race like Ohio State."

dayhiker - might I remind you that Alabama hasn't beaten anybody ranked either. One of your 2 losses comes at the hands of unranked Florida State.

Michigan State, Purdue, Penn St. are all at the same level as a Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and Alabama.

Maybe I'd give the SEC a little more respect if they'd sack up and play some decent teams in their non-conference line-up. Maybe then your arguement that the SEC is all that would be more convincing.

Pre-season I was going to be happy with 7-5 and that's against our ooc schedule. We're now looking at 8-4 which is awesome. I'm not arguing that Bama is a killer team. I'm just happy to see progress.

Ark and UT were both ranked when we beat them. UT was 21 and Ark 16.

PS. The guy sitting behind me at the game was from Cleveland. He was used to going to OSU games. This was his first Bama game. He's a convert now.

It was a great game atmosphere.

PSS, when we scheduled FSU we didn't know they'd suck this year. We tried for a big game. ACtually, it still did what we wanted and that is to use a game like that in an NFL stadium as a recruiting tool.

Look at the numbers:

This year when the SEC played teams from the top conferences (Big 12, ACC, Big East, PAC10, SEC & Notre Dame) - they had a 3-4 record.

The Big Ten's record against teams from the same conferences is 9-4. This record comes with having one less team in our conference.

So, maybe there is truth to the theory that the SEC is totally over-rated and over-hyped. You play less quality teams, and have a poorer record aginst them.

The SEC is a quality conference, don't get me wrong, but they are over-rated, and certainly not God's gift as most of you guys think.

Then why is our bowl record superior to the Big-11's?

Heck, after hearing you speak about Bama' on this board, they've become the team I root for in the SEC. I dsilike the Florida teams (Miami & St. included) because thier fans, in general, are douchebags, + they are over-rated. :)

As of now, I truely believe that Wisconsin, Penn St., Michigan St. & Illinois should be ranked along with OSU and Michigan. Purdue has a solid team as well. In a year where the Big Ten is supposed to be so #&%!$ty, I think it's been pretty competitive. Michigan's loss to App State, although I love it, was a total anomily. Any team on any given day can be upset by an inferior team (see last years national championship game).

A 5 year sample would be more accurate.

Heck, we've talked for years about having a Footballapalooza at a stadium. Iron Bowl 08 would be awesome!

I'm having to eat my words about the fighting Zookers. The Illini are doing good.

I need to watch a little Big-10. DirectTV only has a million Big-10 channels.

DH - since we got the new Big Ten Network - they've been showing much more SEC match-ups here in the midwest on CBS, ABC and ESPN.

BTW - SEC overall bowl record - 177-162-13
Big Ten - 111-112-3

Side note - 2nd best overall bowl winning percentage - The mighty Rockets of the University of Toledo!

Maybe in 2043, we could go to an OSU v. Bama' game. It would take that long to get that scheduled, and we'd both be taking naps at the end of each quarter.

We're supposed to do a home and home with PSU in a few years. Both fan bases missed the regular games we had in the 80's.

I still remember the Kick Off Classic between Bama and OSU in 86 or so. It was Derrick Thomas's first game. He blocked a punt to seal the win for Bama!

Bama is 30-24 in bowl games. Not a great percentage but more invites and wins than any other team, Evah!

Here's a quick analysis I did for "my" home conference, the PAC-10. Maybe y'all could do a similar one for "your" conferences because it's kind of meaningless without something to compare to.

Total out-of-conference games played to date this season: 29

Record: 21-8

Record versus teams in represented conferences, with average current Sagarin ranking for those teams that were played:

Mountain West: 5-4 (70)
WAC: 7-0 (113)
Big 10: 1-2 (26)
Big 12: 2-0 (51)
Big East: 1-1 (70)
Independent: 1-1 (87)
Big Sky: 2-0 (181)
SEC: 1-0 (35)
Conf.USA: 1-0 (67)

Overall average current Sagarin ranking for PAC-10 teams: 41
Range of current Sagarin rankings for PAC-10 teams: 4-105
Average ranking for all out-of-conference opponents: 82

It doesn't help much to say that teams from one conference play teams from a "good" conference when every conference has at least a couple of crappy teams. You have to look at the quality of teams that are played, too.

BB - without putting much thought into a top ten and in no particular order:

Bama (we're usually considered 1, 2, or 3)
ND
Michigan
USC
Oklahoma
PSU
OSU
UT - Tennessee
UT - Texas maybe

I'm sure I'm forgetting some obvious teams. Also, you said all time teams. Army would have to fit in there.

The Tuscaloosa News did a pretty good analysis of this a year back. I'll try and find it.

I'm going to do a comparison based on the following criteria:

AP - Top Ten (+2)
UPI - Top Ten (+1)
National Championships (+5)
Overall wins (+1)
Overall losses (-1)
Bowl wins (+2)
Bowl losses (-2)
Heisman Trophies (+5)
Conference Champs (+2)

Yall are going to be awesome in b-ball this year.

Dec 5 there is a SEC/Big East double header in B'ham. Bama versus Georgetown followed by Auburn versus Villanova. I think the guys from the office are going. Tickets are 40, 30, or 20 and 1 ticket gets you in both games. I think I'm there.

Here's what I came up with using Wikipedia stats
Rankings based on - AP Top Ten Rankings since 1936 (2 points) - Overall wins (1 point) - Overall losses (-1 point) - Bowl Wins (2 points) - Bowl Losses (-2 points) - National Championships (Wire) (5 points) - Heisman Trophy Winners (5 points) - All Americans (1 point):

1. Notre Dame - 933 Points
2. Michigan - 837 Points
3. Oklahoma - 826 Points
4. USC - 802 points
5. Ohio State - 788 points
6. Alabama - 756 points
7. Texas - 728 points
8. Tenn - 615 points
9. Penn St. - 606 points
10. Army - 324 points

Get your teams total by plugging the numbers in!

BTW - Michigan still sucks - that must be a mathematical error on the part of Excel.

Bama has 0 Heismans which hurts under your system. We probably had the most bowl losses too. Our AA total is in the 90's, so that helps.

dh - you actually make out in bowl wins. Ohio state and michigan lose 4 points due to having 2 more losses than wins. Not having heisman tropy winners was big, but it's an integral part of a top tier college football program.

I didn't catch much of the comeback - it wasn't looking good for BC and the World Series game was close. Nice Day for Boston fans.

The game was consistent with what I've been seeing with BC all year: top 5 defense, top 5 QB, take away the QB and I don't think you have a top 20 offense. I would still want better than even money to bet on BC to stay undefeated until the bowl games, but the odds are looking a little better now.

Right now - I'm rooting for UT to complete the comeback against the Huskers. UT has been doing this all year, waiting until sometime in the third or even fourth quarter to start playing decent football.

Edit: As I write this McCoy through the ball away again (first time this game, but he's been awfully generous with it at times before - 12 times this year so far, 7 total last year).

Gutsy performance by Ray Rice, but no dice for Rutgers.... Wva. got over thier injuries in a hurry.

It looks like Alabama is the best team in the SEC. And if the upsets continue, and my bucks can win out, it should be Bama' v. the Bucks in the dayhiker-buddha bear bowl.

I couldn't believe the blantant unsportsmanlike conduct carried out by the jawja football team after thier 1st touchdown. I could believe the hit by the Floida lineman on a kneeling QB though.

I watched the Ohio St. game last night hoping Penn St. would put them in their place. Ohio St. looks like a really good team with a quality O-line and QB. Too bad they won't get to prove it in the regular season. Hope their fans don't mind lopsided victories.

I love seeing Kansas winning. The announcers talk about what a disciplined football team they are, then flash a picture of 500 lb. Coach Mangino. How does he get through the front doors of people's homes to recruit?

And Taft was from Ohio - another indication that we may run the table.

Even if the Bucks lose to one of the three solid (should all be top 25) remaining teams on the schedule, there is no way they should be undeafted at this point after losing all the talent they lost last year. It just goes to show you what an outstanding program and coach they have, and.....

what a massive anomaly the National Championship game was last year. In hindsight (and I only saw 1/3 of the game mind you), Florida beating us was probably the greatest upset in BCS history, and maybe one of the greatest upsets of all time.

Our injuries finally showed up yesterday. We are down to our 4th and 5th stringers for running backs. We've even brought guys over from defense to fill in. We got minus 8 yards rushing. On a positive note, we were still in contention in the 4th quarter, behind 17-6. Next up is Washington, who is 0-5 in the conference.

Nobody wants to win the SEC East....simply amazing that the Vols are atop the standings. If they get to the SECCG with possibly the worst defense in Div I-A, Fulmer has to have more lives than a cat. Never fear though, they're more than capable of laying another egg.

I think it's a conspiracy to keep Phil in power by none other than the powerbrokers at Krispy Kreme. That's right, those greedy bastards at Krispy Kreme are at the heart of what is keeping long-suffering Vol fans from emerging from 6 yrs. of malaise. Need proof? Look no further than right here!!!

Funny though, in the AP OSU picked up two more #1 votes, but in USA they dropped two (one each to BC and Oregon). I was glad BC won, but I have to admit their win was not a convincing one.
