I've read in a couple different sources that Stanford's win was the largest point spread ever overcome by an underdog, surpassing some game either last year or earlier this year (no, not App. St.). Jeez, we actually got votes in both polls!

Stanford has actually beaten USC 3 out of the last 5 at their house: '99 in our Rose Bowl year; '01, marking their last loss there; lost to them in '03 and '05; then Saturday's game.

Arc, it's chardonnay with sushi, not a mocha latte - get it right would ya?

OOhh! Almost forgot!! I watched the recording of the game. When our receiver, Mark Bradford, an LA native whose dad just died 2 weeks ago, caught the winning TD, the TV announcer goes "TOUCHDOWN, USC!!" Oops! He did correct himself pretty quickly, then joked how it was so exciting, he forgot which team was which....

I LIVE!

During the Florida/LSU game, Tim Tebow made a phone call gesture and a slapping motion with his hands.

The announcer said, “It looks like he’s taunting the fans and calling them paper tigers.”

I’m thinking to myself, “What? Where the hell did he get paper tigers from?” He went on to repeat himself saying that Tebow taunted LSU fans by calling them paper tigers.

So today I find out the truth of what the gesture meant:

Shades of Urban Meyer “insulting” Michigan, and Steven Orr Spurrier insulting everyone and his cousin.

It must take a particularly dysfunctional mind to become a journalist, especially a sports journalist. These sick jackoffs have got nothing better to do than try to create news with their imaginations by dredging up any and all controversy.

And they wonder why the media keeps losing readers and viewers? Some people obviously get it. If only journalists could comprehend self-examination.

Got my Sports Ill in the mail yesterday. They had an article on the LSU-Florida game, but, thankfully, absolutely no mention of Stanford's big upset of 'SC. Look what happened to the Phillies when SI took notice of their accomplishments!!

Not many undefeated teams left in 1A. However, the mighty Jayhawks of Kansas are among them. Next up, Colorado in Boulder.
This is THE year of the upset. Congrats this week to Kentucky. Since you lost your basketball team, it sure is nice that it's football season, huh?
Wake does it to the Creminoles.
Cal had to wake up sooner or later.
And, Notre Dame can't even win in South Bend any more. I'll bet they have a hard time signing that television contract next year.

Thumping Kent State and Purdue doesn't make you the real deal. There are a handful of SEC teams that could win every game on Ohio State's schedule. The Rainbow Warriors have as much reason to call themselves #1.

Stickmanwalking - I felt the same way at the beginning of the season, but OSU has a pretty solid "D".

Dunadan - see you in the national championship game!

Notice how Florida took the week off. Now, they can be all rested up when Kentucky punks them, and knocks em' out of the top #25.

Only difference is if Michigan had beaten them I wouldn't be expecting to be #1 because of it. The loss to AS will only bring more shame to you when OSU gets beat by the team that got beat by AS. :)

We were 6 point underdogs yesterday and lost by 2 to TCU. The game was definitely winnable, but, heck, we're rebuilding still, and have already doubled our win total from last year. I had to be home for a family obligation, so had to leave the game early. We were ahead 31-24 when I left, so at least I didn't have to watch us lose the lead and the game....

On the plus side, I correctly predicted our arch rival Cal would lost to OSU. hee hee hee....

It's been such a crazy season.

Appy State embarrasses Michigan.
Stanford upsets USC.
Notre Dame's best offensive play is the pooch punt.
USC (east) is ranked ahead of USC (west).
Kentucky is good, and we're not talkin' basketball.
And South Florida is the best team in their state.

Hey Dunadan
don't be too quick to dismiss the b-ball team. We got rid of that joke of a coach Tubby and picked up a man who is already setting the recruiting trail on fire. All hail Billy G.

THE Ohio State has had a pretty easy schedule so far, but look at their margin of victory and points allowed, those are two pretty good stats. Plus Purdue, while not a juggernaut, is a respectable team. It will be interesting to see them in their last 5 games.

And look out Dunadan, we're gunning for you guys. Tebow better bring his A game.

Hey, Stickman
Hey, Kentucky basketball has my respect. Just handing out some ribbin', that's all. Believe me, Billy Gillespie is the real deal. But, this is the football thread, no?
Now, I look in the local paper today and see that Kansas, (the undefeated Jayhawks), are ranked ahead of Southern Cal in one poll. Do I really think KU could beat USC? I'm a Jayhawk, but my money is on SoCal in that matchup. However, the team should enjoy all of the glory it can.

And, Buddha, I would love to see the Jayhawks playing the Buckeyes in the big game. There's a LOT of football to be played between then and now. I think KU will have its hands full with Colorado next Saturday.

Buuuuuck, cluck, cluck, cluck….

I expect we’ll see lot’s of Buddha preening his feathers and strutting around now. We’ll have to wait until OSU loses for him to dive back under his rock. What an example of class.

Yeah, that cracked me up watching Sports Center. They were saying how Ohio St. was a powerful team as they were crushing Kent St. The big-ten bias my friend from up north talks about is alive and well with the big-city media. They’ve criticized Florida’s schedule, they’ve criticized Rutger’s schedule, and there has been absolutely no mention of the fact that Ohio State has played NOBODY.

As much as I felt good for Kentucky I’ve got mixed emotions. LSU (and any number of SEC teams) would wipe the floor with Ohio St. I’d hate to see OSU slide into another championship game when all they play is cupcakes. They need to be exposed for what they really are (bullies, like their no-class fans-possbile exception of divinity), just like last year.

If Florida can focus enough the rest of the season, and those looooosers at Tennessee don’t silde in the back door, I’ll have really mixed emotions if we get to play LSU in the SEC championship. I’d hate to ruin LSU’s chances and I’d LOVE to see LSU manhandle Ohio State. 0-9 would be sweeeeet. Then we can go for 0-10.

Speaking of the big-ten. There are two teams in the big-ten who are undefeated in conference play. WHAT A SURPRISE!!!

Florida has #7 Kentucky, #6 S. Carolina, and #20 Georgia coming up. And we’ve already played #4 LSU, #17 Auburn, and #21 Tennessee. And then there’s FSU. Well FSU is just pathetic this year. But they’ll get up for their rivalry with Florida. Let’s hope we can avoid “a Bama.”

We lost our starting tight end for the season this past Saturday. At least our backup QB is turning out to be better than the "first string" one.

Here's our list of major injuries:
Starting fullback - maybe back in a couple weeks
Starting running back - out for the season
Starting left tackle - out for the season
Starting QB - OK now, but 2nd string guy looking better
Starting tight end - out for the season
Starting defensive end - out for his career (blood disorder)
Starting nose tackle - out for the season
Starting middle linebacker - out for his career (2 fractured neck vertebrae)
Starting outside linebacker - playing with about 3 injuries

I was just perusing Jeff Sagarin's computer rankings, which include a strength of schedule ranking for each team. (I suspect the other computer rankings do, too, but I'm too lazy to hunt them down.)

I noticed that there are 6 Division I-A teams that are still undefeated, and I think I know why. They have an average strength of schedule ranking of 86th.

My team is 2-4 right now. Their strength of schedule ranking is 4th.

Of course, we have to play Notre Dame this year, which, win or lose, will drag that ranking waaaayyyyy down. (I just love saying that!)

Hopefully we can put the L in Florida.
