Dayhiker. That tirade was thrown by the Oklahoma State coach and directed at a woman journalist who just happened to have graduated from Kansas University. The incident was covered in our local paper. It sounds like the coach went psycho on her.

Aside from the National Championship, the one feather in Fulmer's cap has been domination of Bama. If Bama can stick it to the Vols that should be the final nail in Fulmer's coffin.

For the long-term good of the UT football program....RTR!!

Come on guys! This story has been out for almost a day, and yet I'm the one who has to bring it to yuor attention!

side note - Henton is a young republican.

Ohio State Buckeyes backup quarterback Antonio Henton charged with soliciting a prostitute
Wednesday, September 26, 2007Doug LesmerisesPlain Dealer Reporter
Columbus -- On a street corner at the edge of a Kroger's parking lot, near a janitorial supply store and just blocks from the main campus drag of restaurants and shops, Ohio State freshman quarterback Antonio Henton at 8:27 Monday night became the inevitable Buckeye on the police blotter.

With $19 in his pocket, Henton solicited an undercover police officer on the corner of North High Street and 6th Avenue, offering $20 for sex, according to Franklin County Municipal Court records. Henton, the Buckeyes' 20-year-old third-string quarterback from Fort Valley, Ga., entered a plea of not guilty Tuesday morning, posted a $274 bond and was released. He is expected to have his court date set today.

OSU coach Jim Tressel suspended Henton from the team indefinitely.

For a day, it didn't matter as much that Ohio State is 4-0 and ranked No. 8 in the country.

"I get more disappointed about lows, I guess, than I do excited about highs," Tressel said Tuesday.

For a football program that saw 15 arrests involving football players from Tressel's hiring in January 2001 through May 2004, and three arrests in two weeks in May 2005, the Buckeyes had entered a stretch of apparent good behavior. The only public misstep revealed in the past two years had been left tackle Alex Boone's arrest for DUI in April 2006.

Between the Boone and Henton incidents, every other team in the Big Ten had at least one player arrested.

Minnesota, the Buckeyes' opponent in Minneapolis on Saturday, dismissed four players from the team following an alleged sexual assault in April, for which one of them was charged. Iowa has seen five players arrested since July.

Penn State coach Joe Paterno is making his players clean its stadium as a results of charges against team members. A Michigan player was convicted of assault and kicked off the team. Wisconsin running back Lance Smith was banned by the school from playing away games after a battery arrest.

The Big Ten isn't unusual, just an example. Texas, a top-10 team, has seen six players arrested since June. Now the Buckeyes are back in the club.

I was reading SI recently and while mentioning Rutgers the article said that it was a possible national contender if it could surive its student section, or words to that effect. What's the story behind that?

Now now now Buddha, don't try and gloss this over by pointing out the wrong doing of others as justification or claiming he's a republican. Those Buckeyes are like Marines. You're a Buckeye first and then a whatever.

Stickman - I didn't read that but it prolly has something to do with the controversial taunts made by some in the student section during the Navy game. There are a few posts about that above.

Again, I won't make any excuses for it, but SI might hold all schools to the same standards. There are several stadiums I won't visit again because of the course behavior of the fans. Mountaineer Field in WV topping the list.

Absolutely, Stickman. Our local sportswriter had this comment:

“…Pat’s Picks could not let this go by without comment. It has been amazing to see the division his rant has revealed. On the one side you have the media, on the other side you have everybody else.”

Bob Stoops had this to say:

“I think sometimes, too, what frustrates us is people that create news,.” he said. “I had someone call one of my (players’ parents). I had a parent call me two weeks ago asking, ´How come they’re calling me about my son transferring, when he never said anything about that?´

“They’re calling wanting to create an article. I could see if the (player in question) mentioned it, but he didn’t mention it. No one said anything about that, but they’re creating news. That’s what we have a hard time with.”

I think what also frustrates Bob Stoops is that he was the defensive coordinator at Florida when the media was creating out-of-context quotes, half-truths, and outright lies about Spurrier.

Media for the morons. What would sports be without that?

…"We beat them in football and basketball and they brought their girlfriends and wives and we'll probably take them too," said Jim Rozier, who attended Gators football games as a child in the '60s. "Florida should annex Ohio because we own them." …

http://www.alligator.org/pt2/070403atmosphere.php

Yeah the big ten is so great that one of its best teams, Ohio St., is 0-8 all-time against the SEC. Florida STILL owns Ohio, Buddha. I command you to stop making stupid comments.

Doh! What was I thinking? That’s an impossibility isn’t it?

Media bias has led to overhyped, overrated Big-10

By BRYAN JONES , Bryan Out Loud

If the last couple years of college football have taught me anything, it's that the BCS is not the most annoying thing about college football.

It still sucks, and anyone who advocates the BCS over a playoff system is either a money-grubbing university president or a complete moron.

But as much as it pains me to say this, the true reason why college football is so frustrating sometimes comes down to media bias. I hate to use the words "media" and "bias" in the same sentence because the phrase is so overused and exaggerated, usually as a cop out.
But when it comes to college football, there is no doubting its prevalence.

Need proof?

Exhibit A: The Big Ten Conference.

Exhibit B: Notre Dame.

No one and nothing in sports is more overrated than Notre Dame, and Big-10 football is not too far behind. It took some embarrassing losses for the general public to realize just how little substance there was to the hype these two entities have been awarded the last several years.

Notre Dame has a proven track record of not living up to its bill, evidenced by nine-straight losses in bowl games for the Fighting Irish.

But it's not like the crappiness of the Big Ten that has surfaced before our eyes this season has come completely out of nowhere, either.

Don't get me wrong, the Big Ten has always been a quality conference in the main scheme of things.

But to mention the Big Ten in the same breath as the Southeastern Conference or even the Pac-10, these days, is just a joke.

How many times did we hear on ESPN last season about how the great Big Ten was the elite conference in college football because of how great Ohio State and Michigan were?

I always knew Michigan was overrated and played through a fairly easy schedule, but I have to admit that even I was buying into the Buckeye hype a bit.

UF and USC proved who the real power conference teams were when they blasted Ohio State and Michigan respectively in BCS games.

So where does media bias come in?

Lots of ways.

Television ratings are one of the biggest reasons.

ESPN sure has a lot of incentive to hype up games being broadcast on its network, doesn't it?

Chris Fowler, host of ESPN's "College GameDay," said publicly last year that the network passed on filming from the sites of certain SEC games for that very reason. CBS has first dibs on SEC games.

If sportswriters and broadcasters pound a team down the public's throat enough, people are going to have a favorable opinion of that team. It's just common sense.

There is also tons of regional bias, something I could very well be accused of for writing this column.

But I have two things on my side to support my opinion that the SEC blows the Big Ten out of the water.

The first is recent performance. The SEC is a perennial leader in non-conference record.

The second is recruiting.

The SEC has ranked No. 1 among all conferences in recruiting every year dating back to 2002, according to Scout.com.

The Big Ten has ranked sixth, fifth, fourth, fourth, fifth and six, respectively.

While there is a certain amount of bias in the subjective world of recruiting as well, the numbers don't lie.

Recruiting is where football teams get their talent, and the Big-Ten should be viewed as more comparable to the Big East than the SEC.

http://www.alligator.org/articles/2007/09/28/sports/sports_columns/bryan.txt

Personally, I think his comment that

“…the Big-Ten should be viewed as more comparable to the Big East than the SEC.”

is an insult to the Big East.

When everyone talks about overrated conferences they always talk about the SEC, Big 10, or PAC 10. I think this year the overrated conference is the Big East.

No offense to you and Rutgers Violin, your improvement the past couple of years is obvious to even a blind man, but Louisville and WVU always seem to lose the ones they shouldn't. In WV's defense, at least they were playing another ranked team.

I still haven’t ever got used to it. Almost every team seems to play their best game against Florida.

Auburn sucks all year. They should have lost to Kansas St. Their offense is anemic.

Then they play Florida and they look like an unstoppable, offensive juggernaut, impenetrable defense, mostly mistake-free, top-5 team. Brandon Cox was 11 for 34 on third downs before tonight. Against the Gators he looked like a Heisman candidate.

Florida doesn’t seem to have developed enough character to play with the big boys this year.

Somebody wake cocoa up to offer my congratulations to Auburn for a great game once again. I really miss playing them every year.

I’ll bet big money on one thing:

I’ll bet I won’t hear Dayhiker whine about a tough non-conference game.

Considering that this year and last are the worst Florida State has played in twenty years, I’ll bet Bama fans are quite grateful they don’t play FSU every year.

But at least we don’t have to listen to whining. Dayhiker’s a man. He’s almost 40.
