This is a classic difference of opinion.

You obviously see things differently than I do. That's life. And that's fine.

Hopefully this will cause the college presidents to realize the hopelessness of the current BCS system and return to the conference bowl tie ins.

IT’S A MIRACLE!

Someone from Ohio State can actually read.

Copied MOST of it? MOST of it?

I'll have you know a lot of thought went into informing reformed lurker what a completely brain-dead moron he is. The fool defends lies and hasn’t the intelligence to separate fact from opinion. Yeah it’s all about opinion, reformed. Don’t I hear your mommy calling you home?

I expect better than that from you, nowslimmer. Then again, maybe not. What does a guy whose mascot is the Goofy Gophers know anyway? Gee that’s a fearsome image. Do they have a swarming defense? I can just picture a pack of small furry rodents nipping at my ankles. That just puts the fear of God right into me.

It’s the same with nuts. Nuts are just a fearsome sort of image; especially if we’re talking about Buddha’s little hairy nuts. Now THAT image scares the beejeezus outta me!

Reformed lurker, my OPINION on the game is less than worthless if I don’t provide a factual analysis to back it up.

It may be your opinion that you can ride your tricycle against oncoming traffic and not get injured. I suggest you try it. The world would benefit from the factual data collected from your experiment. At the very least society would be rid of one more hate-mongering, character assassinating, gossip.

Honor is about improving yourself, reformed. You lack any and all inclinations to improve your lack of factual understanding. You don’t understand the concept of honor. The fact that you throw the word around is a farce.

You let others form your opinions. Your lack of problem solving skills shows when you don’t confirm facts. When presented with the evidence that your facts are wrong, you don’t bother to examine your errors. Nope, there’s not a shred of doubt in someone who doesn’t understand the difference between opinion and fact.

Do the world a favor and check yourself into a facility, reformed. You can while away your days with the other psychopaths. That way the rest of society is not burdened with your chaotic hate-mongering, character assassinating, gossip.

Or you could get a job in sports journalism.

Reformed lurker, are you still on probation?

What kinds of lies have you got to share today?

Why don’t you write an autobiography titled, How Mommy Dropped Me on my Head and I got a Boo-Boo on my Brain.

That could explain why you are a lying, hate-mongering, character assassinating, dishonorable, gossiping moron. What’s your opinion?

Here’s a revealing national poll statistic, and I’ll try not to misuse it, from the Rivals.com site.

They asked who would you want as your coach?

The national poll numbers:

Steve Spurrier- 45%
Bobby Petrino- 20%
Greg Schiano- 15%
Rich Rodriguez- 13%
Houston Nutt- 6%

After years of listening to idiots around the country talk about how Steve Spurrier is a butthead, I guess they’ve decided to re-examine their principles when it comes to their own team.

To paraphrase Dayhiker, most college football fans must have this moral position, “He may be a butthead, but he’s our butthead.”

Gee, if they take the time to re-examine their own moral position they may also discover that, “I may be a morally degenerate, unprincipled, hypocritical, hate-mongering, character assassinating butthead, but I’m a fan for my team.”

Or maybe, just maybe, not as many people bought into the whole, Spurrier is a jerk, concept as some sports writers, and the fans who lap up their hate-mongering, character assassinating bile, would have us believe?... nah.

There appear to be enough bozos, like reformed lurker, to keep character assassinating sports gossips in business for years.

I am comfortably numb.

I've also heard it said that Schiano is waiting on the PSU job. Both scenarios make sense.

I would really have liked Rod, but considering he called into a radio show to defend himself I wonder if he's a little thin skinned for Bama. Our media plays full contact on football issues. We had more media at his press conf in WV than WV did.

Will anyone be joining the football god contest this year?

My computer is down at the house. It won’t be back up until Tuesday afternoon and I darn sure don’t want to spend a lot of extra time at work researching offenses, defenses, and injuries.

If I'm going to join, I'd like to do some factual research. As much as I don't want to, I may spend some time here this evening. I never bet based on OPINION because I’m not a fool. I may be crazy as a loon, but I’m not a fool, nor a sheep, nor a character assassinator. Neither am I a scumbag gossip without honor who spreads lies based on opinion rather than fact.

Is anyone interested or will we be skipping it this year? At least I know the big-ten folks won't be joining. They never do.

BOSTON – December 16, 2006 – Rutgers University Head Football Coach Greg Schiano is the inaugural Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year, honoring him as the college football coach who best exemplifies responsibility and excellence on and off the field of play. An elite voting committee of College Football Hall of Fame players and coaches, national college football media, and Liberty Mutual representatives, as well as a contribution from fan voting at www.coachoftheyear.com selected Coach Schiano from among 10 finalists.

“Coach Schiano’s performance this year embodies all that we strive to celebrate through our award: integrity, sportsmanship and unwavering responsibility to his student-athletes and community, accomplishing all while delivering outstanding results on the field,” said Ted Kelly, Liberty Mutual Group chairman, president, and chief executive officer.

Coach Schiano will receive $100,000 from Liberty Mutual to support his civic and charitable activities. In addition, Liberty Mutual will grant $20,000 in scholarship money to the Rutgers University Alumni Relations Program.

“This award means so much because it not only celebrates our 2006 season, but also the way we have built our football program – with young men of character, sportsmanship and integrity," said Schiano. “Rutgers football is on the map to stay, and we will continue to recruit and develop student-athletes who understand their roles and responsibilities, not only on the playing field but in the classroom and in their communities as well.”

Coach Schiano led 16th-ranked Rutgers (10-2) this year to only its second 10-win campaign in its 137-season history, just five years after taking over a program that had gone 11-44 from 1996-2000 and hadn’t had a winning season since 1992. During the 2006 season, Rutgers climbed into the top ten for the first time in school history, and the Scarlet Knights’ 28-25 victory over then third-ranked Louisville was the school’s first-ever win over a top five team. The December 28th Texas Bowl game against Kansas State will mark the first time in school history that Rutgers makes consecutive post-season appearances. In 2005, Schiano directed the Scarlet Knights to a 7-5 season and their first bowl appearance in 27 years.

Off the field, Coach Schiano demonstrates great commitment to his players’ success in the classroom and in the community. Each student-athlete meets daily with their position coach and/or student advisor to ensure they are current with their academic responsibilities. He also mobilizes his players and coaches for positive impact in the community through everyday, practical ways. For example, team members visit the local middle schools where players speak on the importance of education and establishing a balance in life. Under his tenure, all proceeds from the annual Scarlet-White spring game support children’s wards at New Brunswick hospitals. Coach Schiano himself is a regular visitor at these hospitals to spend time with the young patients.

“Being a college football coach brings responsibility that reaches far beyond the hash marks – it’s a responsibility that Coach Schiano truly embraces, and uses to positively influence everyone that he and those that represent his program interact with each day,” said Mr. Kelly. “He is a great choice as the first Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year. We look forward to celebrating responsible coaching again in 2007.”

Coach Schiano outscored nine other finalists on ballots cast by the voting committee on six distinct on- and off-the-field criteria. In addition, fan votes cast November 6-20 at www.coachoftheyear.com contributed to a coach’s overall score. These finalists were, in alphabetical order: Mack Brown (Texas), Lloyd Carr (Michigan), Danny Hale (Bloomsburg), Bobby Petrino (Louisville), Bob Stoops (Oklahoma), Jeff Tedford (California), Mel Tjeerdsma (Northwest Missouri State), Jim Tressel (Ohio State) and Tommy Tuberville (Auburn).

Media voters included: Colin Cowherd (ESPN Radio), Keith Jackson (ABC Sports, retired), Dan Jenkins (Sports Illustrated/College Football Hall of Fame historian), Stewart Mandel (CNN-SI.com), Tim Brando (CBS Sports, Sporting News Radio), Craig Bennett (USA Today), Ivan Maisel (ESPN.com), Teddy Greenstein (Chicago Tribune), Bill King (Rivals Sports Network/Sirius Radio), and Bud Withers (Seattle Times). Hall of Fame voters include: Terry Donohue, LaVell Edwards, Archie Griffin, Bo Jackson, Ron Johnson (Chair, National Football Foundation), Gordie Lockbaum, Archie Manning, Don Nehlen, Tom Osborne, Jim Sochor, and Herschel Walker.

We got a new coach - Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh was a first round pick in '87 out of Michigan, played 15 years in the NFL, and has led Div. I-AA Univ. of San Diego to a 29-6 record over the past few years.

Hopefully he can do better than the last guy - maybe 2-10???

One of the columnist on a Bama board I read posted an article about 5 coaches Bama would be wise to consider. One of them was Harbaugh. I've c&p'd his comments:

4. Jim Harbaugh, head coach, San Diego
Reasons he should be considered: At a school that issues no scholarships, Harbaugh has so far posted a three-year record of 29-6. His 2006 team leads Division-IAA in passing offense and total offense (at 500 yards per game) and is 14th in rushing offense. His team is also 13th in total defense, 3rd in scoring defense, 6th in turnover margin and 1st in passing efficiency. Few people have enjoyed the success early in their careers that Harbaugh has. He also coached for eight years for his father while he was still in the NFL, working as an unpaid consultant for Western Kentucky.
Reasons he wouldn’t be considered: Three years at the Division-IAA level may not be enough. There is also the question of Harbaugh’s loyalties; he’s a Michigan graduate, and with Michigan’s Lloyd Carr on the verge of retirement, Alabama could simply be getting Harbaugh ready to move into a job with his alma mater.
Verdict: Harbaugh could be one of the best young coaches to emerge in years, but with Alabama painting a rigid picture of what it is looking for in a coach, Harbaugh simply doesn’t fit the criteria. There is also the issue of recruiting to a major school, something he hasn’t done.

One of the issues discussed at length on the Stanford boards is whether prior head coaching experience and/or success is necessary. The conclusion was, well, there wasn't really any conclusion. The last guy to take us to the Rose Bowl had not only zero head coaching experience, he had never even been a coordinator at any level (Tyrone). The other "recent" coach that did particularly well was Denny Green, who did not have much success at Northwestern (10-40 record). Walt Harris had had success at Pitt, and he just took us through our first-ever 11-loss season. Go figure....

Picking an up-and-coming coach is always a risky business, but so is recruiting. It’s hard to evaluate “unproven” talent because physical skills and technical knowledge are only a part of the equation.

One of my favorite stories, that our local paper runs every year, is a “Where are they Now?” series. They take a look at all the highly rated recruits and the walk-ons. They show how they’ve done over a four or five year period. Many of those highly rated recruits don’t pan out. And many underrated players, or walk-ons, have become stars.

When Florida hired Meyer he was a two-time coach of the year but where had he coached? Bowling Green and Utah are completely different scenarios than coaching in the SEC. Everyone wondered whether his “system” would work in the SEC with its fast, suffocating defenses. Well here he is, two years away from really having the team he wants to run his offense and he’s had pretty good success so far.

One reason the players have done so well is due to Meyer’s psychological methods and strict discipline. Those are things that are hard to measure on paper.

Good luck, Bowlder. I hope Harbaugh turns out to be the kind of class coach your program is looking for. I’ve got a lot of respect for fans who stick with their teams through losing years, but it’s a lot more fun when your team is winning a few here and there. I’ll bet violin would agree.

Bwaaaahahahahaha. I love ya, Bowlder.

Both Urban Meyer and Billy Donovan (basketball) are much younger than I.

I just became eligible for my AARP card a few weeks back. I’m finding that sort of thing occurs more often now.

I’m having a lot of fun with that. I’ll be reading the paper and they’ll mention somebody’s age. I’ll think to myself, “Well, they’re pretty old anyway.” Then I catch myself and think, “Uhhhh, but they’re younger than I am.

I find that to be a pretty funny experience. Life is full of interesting experiences.
