Somehow Duke leapfrogged over us to the #1 spot. We thought Temple's win would push us up there from #2, but we're still stuck there. Maybe this Saturdays 140-0 loss to USC will do the trick....” 10:11:24 AM 11/01/06 “All I know is that if Buddha's Buckeyes don't equal Rutgers 33-0 shellacking of Illinois, I'm going to claim the #1 spot for the Scarlet Knights... polls be damned. The oddsmakers in Vegas don't think they will.” 1:34:37 PM 11/01/06 “lol violin! arclite is right, we should give kudos to those teams that win every week. I'd like to say "Nice Job!" to Auburn for thier victory on October 18th. Best Rivalry - Nigal v. Buddha Bear” 3:09:10 PM 11/01/06 “All right, you fanatics!!! Bullgoose R.P. McMurphy is back. Louisville/West Virginia is a monster game. We’ll find out something on Thursday. What that is, I don’t know. But we’ll find out something. Chili, you could help me from ranting and raving to myself if you didn’t keep running off and hiding. So what’s the take on LSU/Tennessee? That looks to be such a great match-up. As of today, LSU is favored by 3. The Gators were favored by 3 over LSU. Hmmmmm, I’m starting to understand who’s really ranting here. I’d love to say I’m rootin’ for ya, chili-boy. I like both teams a lot. I may like Tennessee just a tad bit more because of all the great games we’ve played. Tennessee may be my second-favorite team in the SEC and it shouldn’t matter who wins because the Gators control their own destiny. Hmmmmm…. GEAUX TIGERS!!! And then there are the monster Michigan and OSU match-ups. Boy oh boy, they just make me quiver with anticipation. OSU is favored by 26.5. Golly it must be good for the ol’ ego to play in that conference. How can you not win every week with a schedule like that? Michigan is favored by 33. How do you avoid running up the score without looking bad? Do you play the cheerleaders after the half? last edited: 11/01/06 4:02:58 PM” 3:57:25 PM 11/01/06 “Stanford is only a 29-point underdog for Saturday's game. I'm heading to Vegas!” 4:33:42 PM 11/01/06 “"Best Rivalry - Nigal v. Buddha Bear" We represent the balance of the universe. I am the good to your evil. I am the yin to your yang. The Sonny to your Cher. The Wolverine to your Buckeye. We complete each other. LOL!” 6:29:00 PM 11/01/06 “Heck, I'd tell ya to watch out for that tree, but you'd take it out of context. RIP Sonny (ie, Nigal, Michigan, yin, ahem.....good)” 7:42:34 PM 11/01/06 “I can't believe no one has commented at the head Gaytor, Mr. Emmitt Smith is a finalist with dancing with the stars. Their manliest men are dancers? What kind of program are they running down thahr in that swamp?” 7:42:49 PM 11/01/06 “I've been to England to compete in a ballroom dancing contest, Howdy Doody. Flash to dayhiker: Dancing takes major coordination and real men enjoy holding women close. Oh, and Dayhiker, real men cry as well. The Iron Bowl? The last time there was so much pride gathered in one place everyone was turned into a pillar of salt. It wouldn’t surprise me if that happened this year. But there is a positive aspect to that for both Auburn and Alabama alums. The ones who don’t attend the game can gather up that salt to impress their bosses. Because the rest of us like salt with our fries. last edited: 11/02/06 6:03:26 AM” 6:02:37 AM 11/02/06 “I like the salt on my fried Gator. Hide? WTF? Me, hide? Surely you jest. Looks like our second team QB (who happens to look like the real deal) will get the start Saturday. Crompton will be tested if he gets the start. If TN can get some kind of running game going, it will be tough on the Tigers. Of course if Crompton shows mobility, it might throw a new dimension into the game. It will be a tough row to hoe, but I think the Vols can get it done.” 11:29:20 AM 11/02/06 “Haha! You guys get vicious when November hits don't ya?” 11:33:21 AM 11/02/06 “Flash to dayhiker: Dancing takes major coordination and real men enjoy holding women close. I second that. BowlderSon is clearly the best, most coordinated athlete on each sports team he joins, in large part because he's been dancing for 7 years. Also, his first school dance is tomorrow night - guess who all the girls are going to want to dance with? Finally, if you think dancing has made him wimpy, memo to baserunners: don't try to score when BowlderSon's catching... 11:37:22 AM 11/02/06 “You forgot to add that Jim Brown was a better running back than Emmitt Smith.” 1:20:52 PM 11/02/06 “Very cool Bowlder. I loved dancing and got a whole new respect for the athleticism of dancers. They make it look easy. I discovered muscles I never knew I had. To be good, you’ve got to have gymnastic body control. You’re boy will have greater flexibility, balance, and body control because of it. It’ll make him a better athlete for anything he wants to do. I love functions (like weddings) where people are dancing. I get a lot of attention from the women. I only wish I had time to have taken it up earlier. I wish I had more time to devote to it now. Dang it Buddha! Stop making sense. I’m gonna have to get creative with my insults. Jim Brown (Syracuse) is the greatest running back I ever saw…PERIOD!!! He could run over you or around you. I’ve never seen anyone I thought was close. And he is possibly the worst actor I ever saw. Talk about your poor career choices. Well, he lived in Ohio. He must have been an idiot. My favorite player of all time was Dick Butkus (Illinois). I can hardly type that without thinking about In Living Color and cracking up. Butkus was my man. My number was #51. The last softball shirt I played in was #51. Butkus epitomized what I love about football. Chili, that Gator’s got a big wet chunk of yer butt this year! last edited: 11/02/06 7:02:59 PM” 7:00:51 PM 11/02/06 “Jim Brown (Syracuse) is the greatest running back I ever saw…PERIOD!!! LOL” 7:28:27 PM 11/02/06 “The only thing Jim Brown had going against him was he was a Browns.” 7:33:55 PM 11/02/06 “Wow, tamer reply than I was fishing for.” 6:26:23 AM 11/03/06 “Dancing takes major coordination I loved dancing and got a whole new respect for the athleticism of dancers... He played football in high school and college. His High School team was really serious and the coach had set up a dance course at a local teen center for his players. One day when the guys finished a dance class, the kicker and a couple of receivers headed to the locker room first - a bunch of kids started laughing at them and trying to pick a fight with the "pansies in tights." The rest of the team started showing up, including - of course - some really huge guys. He described this incredible scene of wanna be thugs having the SH-- kicked out of 'em by a bunch of guys in tights and leotards (including a 6' 4" linesmen).” 7:05:57 AM 11/03/06 “I bet arclite looks cute in tights.” 7:21:15 AM 11/03/06 “Daaaaaang. I hope you don't spend a lot of time thinking about how I look in tights, chili, you hillbilly perv. Isn't "squeal like a pig" in the refrain of Tennessee's school song?” 7:30:57 AM 11/03/06 “Boy, you sure have a purty mouth.” 7:32:38 AM 11/03/06 “Man did anyone see that West Virginia/Louisville game last night? It was one of the wildest games I've seen in a long time. Huge runs. Explosive offense. Turn overs. Defensive TDs. The lights were going out. Just crazy!” 7:54:35 AM 11/03/06 “Here at the office we were just talking about how bad the D's were.” 8:03:55 AM 11/03/06 “both are over-rated. Rutgers is gonna klick the piss out of both of em' in a few weeks.” 8:46:14 AM 11/03/06 “"[T]he biggest game in Louisville history is this Rutgers game coming up." - Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm Eat that girls.” 11:02:40 AM 11/03/06 “My prediction? It may seem odd after last night's game but I'm looking at the strengths and weaknesses of each team: Rutgers by ten over Louisville West Virginia over Rutgers by 14” 11:09:33 AM 11/03/06 “#&%!$! I just checked eBay. My 2 tickets are now worth over $1,000. I'm #&%!$ing going anyway.” 11:20:05 AM 11/03/06 “SELL! SELL! SELL! ![]() SELL! SELL! SELL!” 11:23:24 AM 11/03/06 “That was an astounding display of defensive incompetence last night. But I still think Louisville wins out and gets in the title game. I read a story the other day about students at Ohio State paying off their debts by selling their tickets to the Michigan game.” 11:24:35 AM 11/03/06 “No don't sell! You've got a better chance at seeing Jesus come back than to see Rutgers ever be this good again.” 11:25:18 AM 11/03/06 “"I read a story the other day about students at Ohio State paying off their debts by selling their tickets to the Michigan game.” I'd sell the tickets to the Whore Shoe. Once you've watched a game in the Big House everything else is underwhelming.” 11:33:29 AM 11/03/06 “The Big House is a great place to urinate on/in! I was able to attend the whopping we gave Michigan two years ago at the Shoe and saw some of those Michigan fans trying to trade chickens and goats for ticks. lol” 11:38:02 AM 11/03/06 “Chili, yer scarin’ me, big boy. Next time I see ya, I’m gonna throw you a steak bone so you can keep yourself occupied by gnawing on it. That and a nice blow-up doll. One with no teeth so she’ll be just like a Tennessee fan. For Rutgers, West Virginia is problematic at W. Va. Louisville at Rutgers is a better bet. The only thing is that Rutgers’ pass defense is suspect. But Rutgers actually HAS a defense. If Rutgers can control that running clock with their running game, they may pull it off. In any case, I read an article that said this is the biggest game in Rutgers’ history since the first college game ever played. Isn’t it great that the whole country is talking about Rutgers? Whoduh thunk it? There was an article in the paper where they quoted Vanderbilt’s coach. He said that Michigan’s Big House was so spread out that the sound escaped and didn’t make it a difficult place to play due to noise. He also said that Neyland Stadium, on the other hand, will blow your eardrums out. Which means it’s almost as loud as The Swamp! I’m thinking that it’s so quiet at big team stadiums because its hard to open your mouth when your lips are frozen shut and your teeth are chattering. 73 and sunny here today, boys. 73 and sunny.” 4:36:49 PM 11/03/06 “Anyone watch the computer rankings that are part of the BCS. They attempt to give a more objective way of ranking teams (but this leaves out human factors -such as injuries - in weighting the significance or a loss or victory). The disparities are interesting to note... for example, the computer had Louisville higher than West Virginia (which was ranked #13) and has Michigan #1 OSU #2. Other surprising disparities as of last Sunday - California ranked #3, U. Texas ranked #12 (so obviously the computer rankings have no credibility with me! j/k). http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/polls?poll=4&date=2006-10-29 Addenda. The Viol man will be pleased to see Rutgers is #8 by the computer. And Luisville was #8 before the WV game. Other purely statistical/mathematical models come up with similar rankings: http://www.colleyrankings.com/ last edited: 11/04/06 12:40:51 PM” 12:33:23 PM 11/04/06 “OUCH Tennessee! WTF DH? Bama has gots to git bowl eligible dude! Nigal, before you congratulate OSU on our big win over Illinois, way to go over Ball State! Ya almost gave Letterman a heart attack!” 6:34:17 PM 11/04/06 “Years ago an excited player hollered at the Illinois Football Coach, "Hey Coach, did you see that tackle?" The Coach responded, "I don't see good tackles, I HEAR them?" Well, I've been sitting here waiting for some of the BIG MOUTHS, who have posted on this string about only two teams in the Big Ten. Today I was proud of Illinois, a Big Ten Team with a 2 - 8 record, showing the #1 rated team in the country, that there are more than 2 teams in the Big Ten! The Illinois Team fought it right down to the end, losing only by one touchdown and holding the other team to 17 points. Big Ten Football has always been, and still is, amongst the toughest in the country. Matt should ban this thread, since there are so many of you who don't really know anything about what you're saying. After the game today the winning coach said something like, "Every game against a Big Ten Team is a tough game." last edited: 11/04/06 7:50:38 PM” 7:48:53 PM 11/04/06 “you tell em'nowslimmer! Good game BTW! That was the best Defense we faced all year.” 7:03:31 AM 11/05/06 “Yeah, and Nixon said, “I am not a crook.” Nowslimmer, please don’t tell me you’ve gone senile. I was looking forward to hiking with you again (and trying to get you to eat burnt steak again). But what if you lose your way and fall off a cliff like you did with your post? I’m worried about you. Buddha, that’s the ONLY defense you’ve faced all year. I loved how the announcers called Illinois, “The Fighting Zookers.” Zook is a very nice man (mediocre defensive specialist) and quite possibly the worst game-day coach in Florida football history. So it’s just natural that he’d get scooped up by the big-ten. The big-ten? Joke, joke, joke, joke, joke, … But they may fill two of the major bowl slots. That’s the big-ten’s greedy, and exclusionary, plan. The big-ten has to scrounge and dumpster-dive for what they can get considering that two teams provide revenue for all the rest. I’ll be rootin’ and tootin’ (if I eat one of those Burrito Brothers burritos that’s a Gainesville institution) on Thursday night for Rutgers. Rutgers can aid Florida’s Mythical National Championship aspirations by beating Louisville. Then we’d get to be cannon fodder for Michigan or OSU. Considering how OSU has a long history of choking in that game, we could very well play Michigan, for the second time in history (and without Ron Zook as our coach), if Rutgers beats Louisville and we win out. Now there’s an, “if pigs could fly” scenario. There are so many things I could say about Tennessee/LSU, but won’t. I may be a completely obnoxious butthead, but I haven’t crossed the line to Alabama Fan. VOLS/LSU: What a great game for the fans. What a great game if you’re an LSU or GATOR fan. Florida wins the east and goes to the championship game. But I feel your pain, chili my friend. Just when you think Tennessee has the game won, LSU pulls a monster clutch drive to pull the carpet out from under at the very end of the game. LSU tried to shoot themselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers. The VOLS defense disappointed me and the VOLS second string quarterback just couldn’t quite get that powerful offense rolling. But the kid’s good. That bomb Crompton threw for a touchdown was just a beautiful pass. Tennessee is in great shape with two very good quarterbacks. Ainge comes back next year and Crompton is only a redshirt freshman. Tennessee’s roster is filled with freshmen and sophomores. Considering the improvement Tennessee made from last year to this, the future looks bright in Hillbillyland. Tennessee should be an excellent team next year. They should be a handful for anyone in a bowl game this year!!! On a swell-my-own-head note, so far I’m 19-7 picking against the spread this year. Anything above .500 is pretty good. When you consider that the spread on the Tennessee/LSU game was 3.5, and that’s fairly typical, I’ve done quite well. My local sports writer doesn’t have as good a record and all he’s doing is picking winners. This may be my year. I could be a contenduh. BRING ON THE FOOTBALL GOD CONTEST!!! last edited: 11/05/06 8:13:16 AM” 8:04:42 AM 11/05/06 “42-0. Not as bad as the 49-0 they laid on us back in the 70s, but bad enough. The lone bright spot in the game was when the coach decided to try an onside kick to start the second half, which we recovered. Then threw away on an interception returned for a TD. Which came back on a defensive holding call. Which later,... oh never mind...” 8:58:57 AM 11/05/06 “I guess it's a good thing Ball St. could win that game for U of M, eh? lol Go Warriors!” 9:03:24 AM 11/05/06 “Geeze Buddha, when Rutgers shutout Illinois, they didn't let them cross midfield except at the end of the 1st and 3rd quraters. Glad your guys were able to hold on despite being outgained on offense. As promised I hereby claim the #1 spot for Rutgers. I remember when Rutgers used to play Ball State before we decided to go big time. Lucky day for your guys too Nigal. Looks like the Gators were able to squeek one out too. last edited: 11/05/06 11:02:07 AM” 11:01:28 AM 11/05/06 “ Go RU!”11:02:38 AM 11/05/06 “If Rutgers can find a way to win this Thursday night vs Louisville, then we'll all know they're for real...” 11:07:55 AM 11/05/06 Wisconsin “On Wisconsin, on Wisconsin, ... While you guys were discussing great football players and came up with an Illinois great, Dick Butkus, LB, 1962-64, you forgot some greater players. Like, from Illinois, Harold 'Red' Grange, HB, 1923-25, and from Minnesota, FB Bronislau "Bronko" Nagurski, considered by many to be the greatest player in college football history, And don't forget RB Nile Kinnick, Iowa. The coins that the referees flip before each Big Ten game bear his face. There were others, too, and it is impossible to really determine the greatest player of all time.” 11:13:56 AM 11/05/06 “Best home town team, BC Eagles stumbled last night against Wake Forest. Painful to watch the ending. They've never been close to my heart, but I always root for them. They are the only team that is regularly ranked anywhere near here and they do bring some excitement, although nothing has really rocked this town since the Doug Flutie days. The team where I teach (small Catholic college) probably would lose to a good High School team from Texas.” 11:25:14 AM 11/05/06 “Congrats SS. I'm awfully glad I had the kids out hiking this weekend and didn't have to witness the game. We're gonna finish 6-6. Sigh” 4:22:01 PM 11/05/06 “I can't say I mind seeing BC and Miami stumbling after defecting from the Big East.” 4:23:43 PM 11/05/06 Jump to Page << prev
