UF-RUTGERS You should be dancing in the streets if Rutgers surpasses Florida in the rankings, violin. Auburn, Tennessee, and Bama fans have all torn down their goal posts after beating Florida. Any year, any team is ranked ahead of Florida they should be dancing in the streets. I only hope that list doesn’t grow after this weekend. Jawja starts a freshman quarterback against one of the best front 7s in the nation. I’m hoping for a lot of quarterback crunching.” 6:49:23 AM 10/26/06 “Bama has not torn down their goal posts because of a Florida victory, EVER. In fact, there is little evidence that Bama has ever torn down their goal posts over any victory.” 7:31:18 AM 10/26/06 “I'm hoping the dawgs can kick ass.” 7:31:38 AM 10/26/06 ““Maybe you should search for "birthplace of college football". Undead. You know I heard that Iraq was the birthplace of civilization too (LOL).. Chili, I am praying for Georgia to send a football team to Florida...apparently the past few weeks we are...heck I don't know what we are doing. I keep feeling like I am watching a Billy Graham concert....90,000 people in a stadium standing up screaming, "JESUS!!!' I have to work this weekend....Fire Prevention Festival..so I will probably get back to the station in time to scream my way through the last two quarters.” 7:44:37 AM 10/26/06 9:18:21 AM 10/26/06 “Hey that was a great article on Schiano arc - thanks for posting it. My hope is that he does stay and becomes identified with the program like a Paterno or Bear Bryant. He is from NJ and his wife didn't like living in Florida so the Miami rumor is likely just wishful thinking - he knew he would have had that job if he stayed. The Board of Governers recently approved the sale of a parcel of land in the Rutgers Preserve to Schiano so he can build a house within walking distance of the stadium. That's an unheard of move - the Preserve is fairly sacred ground. My belief and hope is that he is staying and will play for the national title within the next five years.” 10:20:51 AM 10/26/06 “Auburn, Tennessee, and Bama fans have all torn down their goal posts after beating Florida. I've been to 90% of all Auburn home games since 1993 including several wins over Florida and Auburn has never torn down their goalposts for anyone. In fact, no one goes onto the field. Non-players going onto the field has been considerd bad form in Auburn for as long as I can remember.” 11:05:35 AM 10/26/06 “The players have torn the goalpost down once in the 13 years I have lived in Auburn. That was after a Alabama victory when Alabama fumbled while running out the clock and we kicked a field goal as time expired. The fans didn't rush the field... but the players tore down the goal post and passed it up into the student section.” 11:07:20 AM 10/26/06 “DDX - that was a painful, painful loss.” 11:18:24 AM 10/26/06 “Apparently Dayhiker is too young to remember, or maybe I’m thinking about that other Alabama Crimson tide team. The one that plays 1AA ball. Certainly an Auburn fan wouldn't remember. Most of them were nursing hangovers at game time, after hanging out in bars all Friday, getting "A"s from crooked professors, when they should have been in class. We all know how delusional those young fans can get after their once great team has fallen into yearly mediocrity. They cling so desperately to tails of past glory from the boosters who pay their crooked recruit’s salaries. They want to believe that their team retains some shred of respectability. Especially fans from schools where the coaches get drunk and hang out with topless strippers in their off time. The kind of team where the coach cheats on his wife. The kind of program that chews up, and spits out, coaches like chewing tobacco. The kind of program that’s willing to give a high school coach $150,000 to buy a recruit. The kind of place where even state troopers can’t run from the law after they arrange ticket-fixing scams benefiting the players. Some of us remember the recent past better than others. You a big Miss. St. fan, chili? Or are ya gonna sic yer dogs on some revenuers? last edited: 10/26/06 3:32:57 PM” 3:26:58 PM 10/26/06 “arc has narrowed it down to 2 different decades that this alleged event might have occured. We played once on our field in the 80's and were upset by Floriday. We played 2x on our field in the 90's and lost both again. We played at Legion Field in 1992 for the SEC Championship Game and won, but no goal post came down. We know the alleged game didn't occur in the 70's. Bama won more games than anyone that decade while Florida was busy being everyone's favorite homecoming opponent. Surely you don't suggest we tore down your goalpost on your field? We did beat you there in 99. last edited: 10/26/06 3:44:49 PM” 3:35:27 PM 10/26/06 “ "... where the coaches get drunk and hang out with topless strippers in their off time."What's this? Is there something wrong with living the good life? Perhaps coaches should be selected from the Ministries. But even they sometimes get caught with their pants down! "Some of us remember the recent past better than others."arcliteYes, even I like to keep abreast of the past. NS:: Trip Report - My Old Flame Visited LOL.” 4:40:17 PM 10/26/06 “They couldn't select Alabama coaches from the ministires. Didn't you hear that the Southern Baptist Convention had got direct word from God to throw Alabama out of the Bible Belt? Yeah, it seems the whole state has a problem with excessive pride.” 6:10:34 AM 10/27/06 “LOL.” 7:18:43 AM 10/27/06 “That almost sounded like an admission of being wrong on this one.” 7:33:56 AM 10/27/06 “I have a feeling my team can't lose this week!!!” 11:12:34 AM 10/27/06 “So yall are going to beat .... off” 11:15:49 AM 10/27/06 “Maybe that would help?” 1:21:04 PM 10/27/06 7:37:34 AM 10/29/06 “Great. Now we have to play USC with them being pissed off after that loss to OSU....” 7:48:03 AM 10/29/06 “On the plus side, it looks like we'll be #1 in espn's Bottom Ten, since Temple finally won a game. Woo hoo.” 8:30:12 AM 10/29/06 “Jawja just wasn’t ready this year, XL. Stafford needs some games under his belt and Jawja needs to find some receivers that don’t drop the easy passes, let alone the tough catches. But Jawja played with heart. Florida’s win over Jawja didn’t feel much like a win. Meyer’s post-game press conference had the feel of a wake. He said he didn’t ever remember feeling that way about an offense. The thing that makes Steve Spurrier’s offenses so exciting is that they play with a focused, reckless abandon. If you make a mistake, you climb right back on the horse and chuck it downfield. The thing that makes Florida’s defense so good is that they play with a focused, reckless abandon. It’s the belief that you are so well trained, you have practiced so much, you can let all the inhibitions go and just know you’re going to win. Meyer said that, after his quarterbacks made a couple of mistakes, he got conservative with the offense. You could feel that pucker factor infect the entire offense. I’ve seen that pucker factor affect prevent-defenses. When you lose the aggressiveness, and try to protect a lead, it often goes very badly. I’ve seen it so many times. College football is a game of emotion and momentum. You can’t give away your aggressiveness or the other team will take it for themselves. Meyer teaches toughness as well as anyone. I can only hope he loosens up enough to find that confident, focused, reckless abandon. Florida’s not ready for any championships until they get that confident swagger, and they don’t have it. It’s amazing that they’ve found ways to win as many games as they have with only a great defense. Tennessee should be good next year. That offense looks very smooth under Cutcliff. Maybe they’ll keep him this time. I thought it was a nice touch that the announcers kept saying that Tennessee was chasing Florida. I got a mental image of Smokey chasing a bus and sucking up exhaust fumes. And wasn’t it nice how they kept reminding everyone that Florida held Tennessee to minus eleven yards rushing? So how did Ohio St. do this weekend? It must have been televised at 3:30 because I was watching Florida/Jawja and missed it on TV. I really wanted to see Ohio St./Minnesota because I knew it was going to be one of those tough conference games that are close and come down to the wire. That’s what a good conference is all about, isn’t it? All is not lost, Bowlder. Stanford clings to the SECOND longest losing streak in the nation. You’ve still got one team to beat. OK we’ve finally worked it all out. Dayhiker admits that he was wrong about Bama tearing down the goalposts in ’92 after beating Florida to go to the NC game against Miami. It’s big of Dayhiker to admit he was wrong. I admire him for that even if his team sux.” 8:42:55 AM 10/29/06 “"I really wanted to see Ohio St./Minnesota because I knew it was going to be one of those tough conference games that are close and come down to the wire." It was everything you'd expect when a half way decent team plays a conference pound puppy.” 8:47:07 AM 10/29/06 “Uh-Huh And WHOOOOOOOOO did Michigan play? Didn't the announcers say that Northwestern had beaten Michigan three times since Alexander conquered the known world? And ya gotta love USC losing. 27 STRIAGHT CONFERENCE WINS!!! Man that is just pathetic. That could never happen in the SEC. last edited: 10/29/06 8:52:25 AM” 8:49:32 AM 10/29/06 “Oh I wasn't saying Michigan didn't play a crappy team either. Personally I'd love to dump some of these teams like NW and Indiana and invite in some real teams like Notre Dame.” 8:54:38 AM 10/29/06 “arc is delusional as usual. Bama did not tear down those goal posts. He just wishes Bama cared enough about UF to want to tear them down and he wishes that a W over them would be big enough for us to justify it. Note that last year we beat them something like 31-3 on our field. They were ranked #5, we were unranked. It was our first big win under Shula, yet.....nothing happened. It's just another in a long, long list of wins.” 10:33:45 AM 10/29/06 “Personally, I think that Big Ten teams shouldn't play Notre Dame as often as they do. It should be a once in every five years kind of thing. If they don't want to be in the Big Ten, they shouldn't play half a Big Ten schedule.” 10:41:41 AM 10/29/06 “Ahhhh, it’s just pitiful to see Dayhiker give in to his excessive pride. Just when you think he’s made improvement, he backslides. Bama fans tore down the goalposts after beating Florida. It happened. I got confirmation from a guy at work that it happened. He remembers it too. And all your ranting and whining won’t make it go away Dayhiker. Nigal, personally I think Notre Dame should join the big 10 and give it some small shred of respectability. I’ve wondered if the 11 teams in the big 10 weren’t waiting for Notre Dame. But as long as Notre Dame owns the Notredame Broadcasting Company, it may be hard to convince them that they should share that revenue and give other deserving teams a chance at television exposure. It’s robbing the true football fan. Their exclusive TV contract is one of the reasons I root against Notre Dame.” 5:36:59 PM 10/29/06 “arclite just continues to show how delusional UF fans are by his weekly rantings here. A straw poll wouldn't turn out well for you Mr. $hitting bear. We know you have diahrea of the mouth.” 6:23:17 PM 10/29/06 “Arclite! The Big Ten, in it's current configuration, was set up to be a twelve team league with a conference championship. The schedule is currently unbalanced. Teams only play eight of the other ten. So, it's not likely, but Wisconsin could win the conference without ever playing Ohio State or MI State. That's why you sometimes see one of the lesser teams make a run because they might not play two really powerful teams. A few years ago, the Big Ten made a big push for Notre Dame. Notre Dame said no. Syracuse has been mentioned as a possible twelfth. I think Louisville has been mentioned as well. I think that recent events have made a twelfth team less likely. First, I think the Big Ten is willing to wait for Notre Dame. Second, I think that the competitive advantage of having no conference championship is a plus for many teams now. The loss of championship game revenue is outweighed by the gain of an additional BCS spot. In my personal opinion, Notre Dame is not a good match for the Big Ten. The Big Ten is mostly big, public universities. Notre Dame is not a good fit for that. And, if the Big Ten schools are going to continue playing nonconference games against ND, I don't see much incentive on ND's part to join. I think the Big Ten should start dropping them from the schedule.” 6:24:59 PM 10/29/06 “arc - I have posted the question on a Bama board. No doubt, many people who were there will write in with their memories of the events of that day. I'm sure that won't be enough proof for you, but that's a personal problem.” 6:36:59 PM 10/29/06 “I spent the weekend in the woods in Masten, PA and missed all of college football. While that sort of sucked, I was sure glad to avoid arclite's rants and raves for a few days.” 8:32:07 PM 10/29/06 “arc - here are the replies including several from folks who were at the game. Again, I'm sure it's not enough for you. Are you capable of admitting when you're wrong or are you just never wrong? Which is it? http://tidefans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48454” 4:43:00 AM 10/30/06 “I like the way you think, reformed lurker. You make some very good points. If they ever decide to join the 21st century and have a conference championship, I’d like to see them get a twelfth member who’s respectable. I think the big-10 deserves that. But I’d hate to see them raid the big east. The ACC already did that, and I’m personally glad that it hasn’t harmed to big east as much as I thought it might. It’s pitiful to see you act this way, Dayhiker. I can almost see the veins in your neck popping. Let’s examine a few of those comments on the TIDEFAN board, shall we? "I was there, and though I was only 8 I do not remember goal posts going down. Then again I believe I was freezing my arse off so I could possibly just not remember." Yeah, the kid was 8 and doesn’t remember. That’s proof? "We are The University of Alabama! We DON'T tear down goal posts! We NEVER have and we NEVER will! We know how to "act like we've been there before--because we have been there ALWAYS!" Do I have to say any more about EXCESSIVE pride? That comment supports my "proof." "We cheered our heads off, and retired to the Touchdown or the saloon next to it, just like we've done for 20 other SEC Championships." OK, we’ve got a drunk, like most Bama fans, whose memory is of saloons. "I really can't tell you when we last tore a goal post down? I know a few have been tore down the past few years after our games." AND HERE IT IS!!! SOMEBODY from Alabama finally fesses up. It’s just so pitiful to watch some Alabama fans kick and scream and slam doors in their rage to say we NEVER tear down goalposts. I’ll bet the saloons up there are a battleground for visiting fans. I missed you too, chili. last edited: 10/30/06 6:07:12 AM” 6:05:45 AM 10/30/06 Out of bounds. “Dayhiker - That was an extremely biased poll. For what office are you running? LOL. last edited: 10/30/06 6:16:23 AM” 6:15:09 AM 10/30/06 “Not the best third quarter this year, but its still a "W".” 6:18:11 AM 10/30/06 “#12 in the BCS...bayyyyyyybeeeeee” 3:48:06 PM 10/30/06 “I like how arc is lecturing me on pride. Talk to me about arrogance while you're at it.” 7:04:53 PM 10/30/06 “"#12 in the BCS...bayyyyyyybeeeeee” arclite 3:48:06 PM The Anderson computer has us at #3... 3 spots ahead of Florida. It measures what a team has accomplished this year, putting no weight on prior years. http://andersonsports.com/football/ACF_frnk.html” 7:28:42 PM 10/30/06 “I was going to make fun of them and how they beat Connecticut but after looking at the polls in your link they have Michigan at #1 so I'm going along with it. LOL!” 7:31:54 PM 10/30/06 “lol Nigal! I like the poll too. If you flipped Texas and Notre Dame, and I consider them even, we'd (Ohio State and Michigan) would prolly be tied. Regardless, I've seen the demeanor of some of your posts here regarding OSU this year, and I know you've seen mine, and I must say, this is the first year that I'd have to say Michigan is not over-rated, and I think you'd concurr about OSU. We both deserve to be 1-2 no matter what order you put them, and that will be sorted out on the 18th. I hate Michigan as much as you hate OSU, but this year is special. Our teams are, beyond a doubt, the best teams in the nation, and I think Michigan or OSU could beat any other team (except maybe Rutgers - ((Hell, it's violin's year) in the nation. Also, after the ridiculous comment made here on TT from gator fan, I know that regardless of the outcome of 11/18, Michigan or OSU will put to rest any controversy involving the #1 & #2 rankings by destroying any team we play in our respective bowl games (hopefully SEC teams). BTW - good luck against that powerhouse of Ball State next week Nigal, I know you'll need it. Florida SUCKS - ROLL TIDE! Peace - out. BB last edited: 10/30/06 9:22:08 PM” 9:19:00 PM 10/30/06 “Buddha, I have to agree with you. For the only time in your pathetic, pansy little life you make sense: Florida sucks. I don't believe that Florida stands a chance against either Michigan or OSU. I think Florida would lose to West Virginia, Louisville, and USC as well as a number of other teams. I would prefer them to be ranked below Rutgers so they don't have a chance to prove it in a major bowl. They're not ready for prime time this year… but they will be. There is a bright spot to all this poll madness. How in the heck can the BCS rank Florida ahead of Auburn? Florida fans aren’t like Tennessee fans. We don’t go around whining about how we’re better, at the end of the year, than a team that beat us. If enough people continue to get pissed about the stupidity of the polls and computer rankings, the public pressure mounts to drag the big-10 into the 21st century. And we all know that the big-10 is the root of all evil; besides being a weak, two-team conference. How can I lecture you about arrogance, Dayhiker? You already know all there is to know about that subject. How can you continue to embarrass yourself like this? The regal Bama fan has no cloths.” 6:04:49 AM 10/31/06 “arclite seems to be confusing whining with statements of fact” 7:45:40 AM 10/31/06 “"If you flipped Texas and Notre Dame, and I consider them even, we'd (Ohio State and Michigan) would prolly be tied." It's hard for me to say this but both Texas and Notre Dame were over rated. Texas had a rookie QB and ND was ranked by the name alone and both have shown themselves non-#2 material. so both OSU and Michigan are untested in my opinion. And we have to be 100% honest here, neither team is a powerhouse when it comes to bowl games.... The Buckeyes are 15-19 in bowls. ...and Michigan is just slightly better at 18-19. But do we love our teams any less? No. Is there any other rivalry that is bigger? No (stfu dayhiker!).” 8:12:42 AM 10/31/06 “tsk, tsk, tsk... The best rivalry in college football is Alabama/Auburn. Everyone in America needs to go the Iron Bowl at least once.” 8:19:33 AM 10/31/06 “(stfu dayhiker & chili!) heehee!” 8:29:31 AM 10/31/06 “I'm halfway considering tailgating in Tuscaloosa on Iron Bowl day even though I don't have tickets.” 8:41:36 AM 10/31/06 “No, chili. You’re a whiner. You, and your Tennessee hillybilly buddies, get that high squeaky voice when you start pontificating on Tennessee’s greatness. The only thing Tennessee is consistently great at is losing to Florida.” 12:01:56 PM 10/31/06 “Where is everyone?. Where are the fans who don’t bother to congratulate fans from the other teams after they lose? Where are the fans who insult fans from other teams by singling out certain teams and saying they are displaying poor sportsmanship by humiliating their opponents when they score lots of points (even though many teams do this regularly every season)? Where are the fans who insult the character of other team’s coaches whom they have never met and know nothing about personally? Where are the fans who think it’s good sportsmanship to play your fight song over and over in an opponent’s stadium? Where are the fans who think it’s good sportsmanship to hold a long and wild celebration after winning in an opponent’s stadium? Where are the fans who think it’s good sportsmanship to mock an opposing team when your team is winning? Where are the fans who think it’s good sportsmanship to insult an opposing team by saying your team is better than they are even after you’ve lost to them? Where are the fans who think “trash talk” is just an acceptable part of the game? Where are the fans who overlook when their fans, and their teams, do these things, but take great offense when it happens to them? Where are the fans who think that media created “controversies” are good for the game? They aren’t speaking up. I miss them. I miss trading barbs about team thugs. I miss trading barbs about conference thugs. I miss trading barbs about which teams have poor graduation rates. I miss trading barbs about which teams hate each other. Those OTHER fans are my bread and butter here.” 7:32:44 AM 11/01/06 Jump to Page << prev
