You should be dancing in the streets if Rutgers surpasses Florida in the rankings, violin. Auburn, Tennessee, and Bama fans have all torn down their goal posts after beating Florida.

Any year, any team is ranked ahead of Florida they should be dancing in the streets.


I only hope that list doesn’t grow after this weekend. Jawja starts a freshman quarterback against one of the best front 7s in the nation. I’m hoping for a lot of quarterback crunching.”

Chili, I am praying for Georgia to send a football team to Florida...apparently the past few weeks we are...heck I don't know what we are doing. I keep feeling like I am watching a Billy Graham concert....90,000 people in a stadium standing up screaming, "JESUS!!!'

My hope is that he does stay and becomes identified with the program like a Paterno or Bear Bryant. He is from NJ and his wife didn't like living in Florida so the Miami rumor is likely just wishful thinking - he knew he would have had that job if he stayed.

The Board of Governers recently approved the sale of a parcel of land in the Rutgers Preserve to Schiano so he can build a house within walking distance of the stadium. That's an unheard of move - the Preserve is fairly sacred ground.

My belief and hope is that he is staying and will play for the national title within the next five years.”

I've been to 90% of all Auburn home games since 1993 including several wins over Florida and Auburn has never torn down their goalposts for anyone. In fact, no one goes onto the field. Non-players going onto the field has been considerd bad form in Auburn for as long as I can remember.”

Certainly an Auburn fan wouldn't remember. Most of them were nursing hangovers at game time, after hanging out in bars all Friday, getting "A"s from crooked professors, when they should have been in class.


We all know how delusional those young fans can get after their once great team has fallen into yearly mediocrity. They cling so desperately to tails of past glory from the boosters who pay their crooked recruit’s salaries. They want to believe that their team retains some shred of respectability.

Especially fans from schools where the coaches get drunk and hang out with topless strippers in their off time. The kind of team where the coach cheats on his wife. The kind of program that chews up, and spits out, coaches like chewing tobacco. The kind of program that’s willing to give a high school coach $150,000 to buy a recruit. The kind of place where even state troopers can’t run from the law after they arrange ticket-fixing scams benefiting the players.


Some of us remember the recent past better than others.

“arc has narrowed it down to 2 different decades that this alleged event might have occured. We played once on our field in the 80's and were upset by Floriday. We played 2x on our field in the 90's and lost both again. We played at Legion Field in 1992 for the SEC Championship Game and won, but no goal post came down. We know the alleged game didn't occur in the 70's. Bama won more games than anyone that decade while Florida was busy being everyone's favorite homecoming opponent.

Surely you don't suggest we tore down your goalpost on your field? We did beat you there in 99.

“Jawja just wasn’t ready this year, XL. Stafford needs some games under his belt and Jawja needs to find some receivers that don’t drop the easy passes, let alone the tough catches. But Jawja played with heart.


Florida’s win over Jawja didn’t feel much like a win. Meyer’s post-game press conference had the feel of a wake. He said he didn’t ever remember feeling that way about an offense.

The thing that makes Steve Spurrier’s offenses so exciting is that they play with a focused, reckless abandon. If you make a mistake, you climb right back on the horse and chuck it downfield. The thing that makes Florida’s defense so good is that they play with a focused, reckless abandon. It’s the belief that you are so well trained, you have practiced so much, you can let all the inhibitions go and just know you’re going to win.

Meyer said that, after his quarterbacks made a couple of mistakes, he got conservative with the offense. You could feel that pucker factor infect the entire offense. I’ve seen that pucker factor affect prevent-defenses. When you lose the aggressiveness, and try to protect a lead, it often goes very badly. I’ve seen it so many times. College football is a game of emotion and momentum. You can’t give away your aggressiveness or the other team will take it for themselves.

Meyer teaches toughness as well as anyone. I can only hope he loosens up enough to find that confident, focused, reckless abandon. Florida’s not ready for any championships until they get that confident swagger, and they don’t have it. It’s amazing that they’ve found ways to win as many games as they have with only a great defense.






Tennessee should be good next year. That offense looks very smooth under Cutcliff. Maybe they’ll keep him this time.

I thought it was a nice touch that the announcers kept saying that Tennessee was chasing Florida. I got a mental image of Smokey chasing a bus and sucking up exhaust fumes.

And wasn’t it nice how they kept reminding everyone that Florida held Tennessee to minus eleven yards rushing?






So how did Ohio St. do this weekend? It must have been televised at 3:30 because I was watching Florida/Jawja and missed it on TV. I really wanted to see Ohio St./Minnesota because I knew it was going to be one of those tough conference games that are close and come down to the wire. That’s what a good conference is all about, isn’t it?






All is not lost, Bowlder. Stanford clings to the SECOND longest losing streak in the nation. You’ve still got one team to beat.






OK we’ve finally worked it all out. Dayhiker admits that he was wrong about Bama tearing down the goalposts in ’92 after beating Florida to go to the NC game against Miami.

Nigal, personally I think Notre Dame should join the big 10 and give it some small shred of respectability. I’ve wondered if the 11 teams in the big 10 weren’t waiting for Notre Dame.

But as long as Notre Dame owns the Notredame Broadcasting Company, it may be hard to convince them that they should share that revenue and give other deserving teams a chance at television exposure. It’s robbing the true football fan.

Their exclusive TV contract is one of the reasons I root against Notre Dame.”

The Big Ten, in it's current configuration, was set up to be a twelve team league with a conference championship.

The schedule is currently unbalanced. Teams only play eight of the other ten. So, it's not likely, but Wisconsin could win the conference without ever playing Ohio State or MI State. That's why you sometimes see one of the lesser teams make a run because they might not play two really powerful teams.

A few years ago, the Big Ten made a big push for Notre Dame. Notre Dame said no. Syracuse has been mentioned as a possible twelfth. I think Louisville has been mentioned as well.

I think that recent events have made a twelfth team less likely. First, I think the Big Ten is willing to wait for Notre Dame.

Second, I think that the competitive advantage of having no conference championship is a plus for many teams now. The loss of championship game revenue is outweighed by the gain of an additional BCS spot.

In my personal opinion, Notre Dame is not a good match for the Big Ten. The Big Ten is mostly big, public universities. Notre Dame is not a good fit for that.

And, if the Big Ten schools are going to continue playing nonconference games against ND, I don't see much incentive on ND's part to join.

I think the Big Ten should start dropping them from the schedule.”

Regardless, I've seen the demeanor of some of your posts here regarding OSU this year, and I know you've seen mine, and I must say, this is the first year that I'd have to say Michigan is not over-rated, and I think you'd concurr about OSU. We both deserve to be 1-2 no matter what order you put them, and that will be sorted out on the 18th.

I hate Michigan as much as you hate OSU, but this year is special. Our teams are, beyond a doubt, the best teams in the nation, and I think Michigan or OSU could beat any other team (except maybe Rutgers - ((Hell, it's violin's year) in the nation.

Also, after the ridiculous comment made here on TT from gator fan, I know that regardless of the outcome of 11/18, Michigan or OSU will put to rest any controversy involving the #1 & #2 rankings by destroying any team we play in our respective bowl games (hopefully SEC teams).

I don't believe that Florida stands a chance against either Michigan or OSU. I think Florida would lose to West Virginia, Louisville, and USC as well as a number of other teams. I would prefer them to be ranked below Rutgers so they don't have a chance to prove it in a major bowl. They're not ready for prime time this year… but they will be.


There is a bright spot to all this poll madness. How in the heck can the BCS rank Florida ahead of Auburn?

Florida fans aren’t like Tennessee fans. We don’t go around whining about how we’re better, at the end of the year, than a team that beat us.

If enough people continue to get pissed about the stupidity of the polls and computer rankings, the public pressure mounts to drag the big-10 into the 21st century. And we all know that the big-10 is the root of all evil; besides being a weak, two-team conference.

It's hard for me to say this but both Texas and Notre Dame were over rated. Texas had a rookie QB and ND was ranked by the name alone and both have shown themselves non-#2 material. so both OSU and Michigan are untested in my opinion.

And we have to be 100% honest here, neither team is a powerhouse when it comes to bowl games....

The Buckeyes are 15-19 in bowls.

Where are the fans who overlook when their fans, and their teams, do these things, but take great offense when it happens to them?

Where are the fans who think that media created “controversies” are good for the game?




They aren’t speaking up. I miss them.
