Georgia 10 Florida 14 Final Texas 9 Okla St 21 End 1st last edited: 10/29/05 7:10:00 PM” 7:08:51 PM 10/29/05 “Interceptions, fumbles, what the heck is happening to UT (the real UT, that is)? Does that #1 BCBS computer rating have 'em rattled?” 7:37:11 PM 10/29/05 “toast” 7:55:14 PM 10/29/05 “Ahh... order is being restored.” 9:09:13 PM 10/29/05 “Worst choke I've ever seen in 27 seasons of Stanford football. At least the first 52 minutes were fun. Sorry pix....” 12:44:22 AM 10/30/05 “Your game sounds like our game, Bowlderman. Amazing comeback by CSU to beat the Lobos who were hotter than fire the first half and looked like they had been sedated the second. UNM's Dontrell Moore becomes one of six NCAA RB's with 1000 yrds rushing 4 seasons. Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers....” 6:49:23 AM 10/30/05 “Thank you most merciful TT football god for deciding that DJ Shockley needed to rest for a week. If Arkansas didn’t take out Shockley, I think that game quite probably would have had a different outcome. As it is, all is right with the world. Jawja is put in its rightful place. The bad guys get their comeuppance, and the white hats ride off into the sunset with a HUGE win!!! NICE JERSEYS, HUH! I remember that car accident, violin. It was a terrible thing. I don’t remember if my two buddies were still going to Rutgers (at night) or not. But they both lived up there and worked in NYC for years. I was visiting when I heard that story about the accident. It would be so cool for Rutgers to be in the Gator Bowl. I’ll skip Florida’s bowl game if they do and go with my buddy. After all, Rutgers played in the first college football game. THAT’S tradition. I love that fans are loyal to Rutgers. Florida wallowed in mediocrity for years before becoming a national power. Now folks talk about Florida as if they have this long and glorious tradition of winning. For the young kids maybe, but for the people who’ve followed college football for some time, Florida got a late start. And that’s one of the best things I love about Florida football. We built a rabid fan base with a middle-of-the-road team. Our games were sellouts before we got real good. That’s fan support. That’s true tradition. It’s easy to root for a winner. It’s easy to come into a program with a history of winning and feeling good about your team. I love the character of the fans who stick by their team even when they don’t have a great tradition of winning. BOWL ELIGIBLE BABY! Chili, you knew it was coming… wait for it… I may be absent minded, but my long-term memory works just fine. While talking about Florida’s strength of schedule (underestimated btw): “3 or 4 top 10 teams. At least 4 or 5 top 25 teams. And a Spurrier coached South Carolina. I’d LOVE to see USC win a mythical national championship with that schedule. Bunch of PANSIES!!!” arclite 6:35:31 AM 8/11/05 The reply to arclite’s comments: “While Bama fans appear to be scanvenger and feed off a dead bear, the Gator fans show caniblaistic tendencies to feed off a declining but still kicking "Gamecock". "A Spurrier led South Carolina".......was that supposed to be a joke?” chili36 8:20:15 AM 8/11/05 Welly, welly, welly (to quote A Clockwork Orange)… how do I respond to that amazingly insightful piece of prognostication? Let’s just let that particular piece of Tennessee folk wisdom hang in the air… for now. last edited: 10/30/05 10:22:33 AM” 10:21:14 AM 10/30/05 “LMAO! When the he11 is baseball season?” 7:16:32 PM 10/30/05 “ ”7:51:54 AM 10/31/05 “Was the UT/USC game the Thug Bowl? It looks like the only bowl either team will play this year.” 8:11:19 AM 10/31/05 “Well, we know ND will kick the #&%!$ out of UT, so that means if Memphis or Vandy comes in inspired (or both), UT can be 5-6 or 4-7. When the hell does basketball season start?” 9:34:27 AM 10/31/05 “Welcome to my world Chili.” 9:57:27 AM 10/31/05 “Rumor has it that Sanders resigned Sat night. Press conf at 3 today.” 12:03:19 PM 10/31/05 1:01:56 PM 10/31/05 “It's offical, my beloved DAWGS are the worse team in the SEC. :-(” 1:04:50 PM 10/31/05 “And they're the worst too. Who does Bama play this weekend? I never overlook MSU. They always play us tough.” 1:07:46 PM 10/31/05 “The scuttlebutt is that RSanders is gone effective at the end of the season, but he'll have a diminished role between now and then. In addition the O-Line and WR coaches will be fired and the DB coach is retiring. Cutcliffe will return for '06 as Associate Head Coach (a title that Chavis, the DC also shares), OC and QB coach. Woot! I'm upbeat about UT football again!” 2:39:23 PM 10/31/05 “Well that's the funniest Spurrier picture I've viewed in a long time. I wonder what kind of view Phil gets as he's looking up behind himself through his legs. UT better beat Notre Dame. It's all about conference pride. Every team in the SEC is looking forward to UT beating Notre Dame... ...because almost every team in the SEC has beaten UT and wants to say they're better than Notre Dame. I want y'all to know I don't enjoy this "kick'em when they're down" thing we're doing. I don't... really I don't... I really, really don't... trust me. By God, salvage some pride UT. GO VOLS!!! The Tennessee women's volleyball team just beat UF. That's something to be proud of.” 3:27:52 PM 10/31/05 “Get on the dang Cumberland Island thread, arclite!!!!” 3:29:00 PM 10/31/05 “dayhiker, remember MSU/FL last year? It's always possible any SEC team cane beat another on any given Saturday. LOL Man, that would be sweet! MSU beats smarta$$ Ala. I'll be overjoyed if we just find someway to beat Ol' Miss at the final game of the season. All else will be forgiven.” 3:40:03 PM 10/31/05 “The Tennessee women's soccer team has the #1 seed in the tournament. That's something to be proud of.” 5:55:33 AM 11/01/05 “I have a MSU grad client that I usually tease with. We bet a lunch on the outcome of football and basketball games. I'm up about a dozen lunches now (The basketball game last year counted as 3 or 4) so I'm not emailing him this week about the bet. Watch us not bet and then get our butts beat. I believe it was MSU that ended our win streak in the late 80's when we won back to back NC's. The score was something like 6-3” 6:54:29 AM 11/01/05 “It's official, Randy is gone....effective end of the year. Until then, he will be quarterbacks coach. That should be a full time job. I watched all four news casts last night (local NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox)....on the sports segment of each, they interviewed people on Kingston Pike and Campus about the news Sanders quit. To a man, woman and child, they all said "Thank God".” 8:54:25 AM 11/01/05 “The thing that scares me for yall is this talk of OC by committee. This is what happened to Bama mid season during our 2000 crash. It only got worse when the OC by committee started. Sanders was a huge part of the problem, but it seems a lack of leadership at the top isn't helping.” 8:57:49 AM 11/01/05 “LMFAO. Worse? WTF are you talking about. The only way things get worse will be if Kentucky manages to beat us.” 9:00:12 AM 11/01/05 “I'd be more worried about Vandy than UK. During 2000 I kept asking if it could get worse. Each game they managed to find away to make it worse. That season came down to one thing, lack of leadership. It sure looks like yall are experiencing the same thing.” 9:16:07 AM 11/01/05 “I am already prepared to see both Vandy and Memphis beat UT. Of course, Phil does have a way to show it was ALL Randy's fault. Just run the table.” 9:37:17 AM 11/01/05 “7-4 will look a whole lot better than 5-6 or even 6-5. Believe it or not, Shrevport is not a fun destination during bowl season.” 9:48:02 AM 11/01/05 “Is Shreveport ever a fun destination?” 10:02:08 AM 11/01/05 “but it seems a lack of leadership at the top isn't helping.” dayhiker Please explain where there is lack of leadership at the top? RS was not fired mid season no matter what the press continues to preach. RS clearly expressed his inability to get the job done and that there he no longer desires to continue coaching as UTs OC. I guess my biggest gripe right now is the way the press is continuing to portray the situation as dumb Fulmer and poor Randy. How is this the easy way out for Fulmer? Why is everyone ignoring that UT's scoring offense is ranked 106+ out of 117 teams total? Also, RS has never had an offense finish the year ranked higher than 35th in any major offensive categories and we are directly averaging 18 pts less per game under RS than DC. Nevertheless, as quick as the numbers above will get you fired, the lack of player development is my biggest rant. Two rumors abound as of now. One seems to have a little more details than the other. One rumor is that Cutcliffe will return for '06. The other is that a certain NFL OC who is now with the Titans doesn't like the NFL a whole lot and is available for 1.1 million. Yes, as a college OC. last edited: 11/01/05 10:14:58 AM” 10:08:58 AM 11/01/05 “When a total implosion occurs, leadership is usuall a major contributing problem. That's all I'm saying. It would have taken real leadership to fire RS about 3 years ago, for example.” 10:21:18 AM 11/01/05 “Yes, but UT has continued to win. Since when has this become a total implosion except in the eyes of fans those UT fans that have only followed UT football since Fulmer? How quickly has the Majors' program been forgotten (even by Johnny Majors himself, what a pompous jerk). UT is still most likely to finish 6-5 and attend Music City. A very successful year for Bama last year. last edited: 11/01/05 10:40:45 AM” 10:37:56 AM 11/01/05 “True, but you don't consider preseason #3 to 6-5 an implosion? I do.” 10:38:57 AM 11/01/05 “Bringing Cutcliff back is a calculated move designed to help them sign Clausen's brother, the most highly recruited QB in recent memory. They'll tout the fact that Cut tutored Peyton and Eli and is best suited to get their kid to the pros as a #1 pick.” 10:44:50 AM 11/01/05 “No more than any other top 10 team who imploded. Would I consider UT to be the biggest disappointment? Absolutely! But I must say if the changes are made where I think they will be made I believe UT fans will be looking at an exciting '06. Most UT fans are relieved that all is finally coming to past.” 10:50:47 AM 11/01/05 “Bringing Cutcliff back is a calculated move designed to help them sign Clausen's brother, the most highly recruited QB in recent memory. They'll tout the fact that Cut tutored Peyton and Eli and is best suited to get their kid to the pros as a #1 pick.” karma police May help but the reason to hire Cut back would primarily be due to UTs horrible offense since 1999. I believe Chow would do much more for recruiting than Coach Cut. I maybe wrong but I really don't care if UT picks another Clausen up or not. I also believe that UT has a future top draft pick at the QB position on the bench as a redshirt freshman. last edited: 11/01/05 10:59:41 AM” 10:53:54 AM 11/01/05 “Oh just great. Croon pulled our QB and is putting a freshman in for the Bama game. I give Croon one more year to make improvements, i.e., win at least three or four games, and then I say run him off. That's going to be ugly.” 11:02:05 AM 11/01/05 “This Clausen isn't like the other two. He's apparently smart and has an arm. The first one was dumb as a brick and the current one doesn't have the arm strenght to get it done. Spurrier could probably make him a Heisman candidate but not Fat Phil.” 3:32:38 PM 11/01/05 “I agree with dayhiker. Lack of leadership is usually the cause for "...the lack of player development..." For whatever reason, the VOLS look rudderless this year. Sanders leaving will be a help. Tennessee should have no trouble getting a quality coach to replace him. And I agree with tailhound "...the lack of player development..." has been a big issue this year. Tennessee just hasn't gelled as a team. It reminds me of when Doug Dickey was coaching the Gators. He had all the talent in the world, but lousy teams. Somehow he couldn't get them to play nice together. Sometimes that just happens because certain players do not mix well. More often than not, it's a lack of leadership. It's hard to pin it on Phil, given his track record, but it is cause for concern.” 3:33:14 PM 11/01/05 “I do believe Sanders has been somewhat of a scapegoat, although he does bear some responsibility for UT's anemic offense. I'll be more upset if, at the end of the season, Phil doesn't fire the O-line and WR coaches. Those two in particular have been dead wood for the past few seasons. The rumor mill suggests that this will happen. I hope so. I think Cutcliffe replacing Sanders would be a definite step up for QB development but a push in playcalling/scheme. I could care less where the youngest Clausen goes. I think TN has been out of the running for his services and a Cutcliffe hire would do little to change that. I'm more excited about what Cutcliffe could do with Jon Crompton, supposedly the best QB on TN's roster (currently redshirted). last edited: 11/01/05 3:48:44 PM” 3:42:10 PM 11/01/05 “I find it hard to believe that TN will really call plays by committee. That just seems completely inane. I would speculate that Phil/Sanders will continue to call plays but CPF knows that the Titanic doesn't turn on a dime and he doesn't want to become the new lightning rod for criticism once we continue to have offensive woes.” 3:56:24 PM 11/01/05 “Making calls by committee is basically input and observations are given by a couple of coaches but the head coach will be calling essentially. It just relieves the coaches from taking all the heat. IMO play calling is not UTs problem. Execution and improvement is. I don't think we will see a diffence in the offense. I also believe Sanders has become the scapegoat for the fans. But at what program in the country would not react the same way if in this situation? Wins=money. Also, we need to remember that RS resigned on his own even after Fulmer asked him to finish the season. Nevertheless, this team needs again to develop from week to week, season to season. RS has the reputation of being a genius when it comes to Xs and Os but developing good athletes into a championship offense has continued to be weak. Its obvious that under Coach Cut that UTs Offense (especially QBs) consistently learned to play the game at a higher level. last edited: 11/01/05 4:18:01 PM” 4:11:07 PM 11/01/05 GO IRISH! “ 4:16:09 PM 11/01/05 “Phil Fulmer calls most of the plays. Even when Sanders calls the play, Fulmer either says "yes" or "no." I had an ex-VOL explain their system to me just last week.” 8:06:21 PM 11/01/05 “Good! Because I don't think the problem has been playcalling. Some of their O position coaches are dead wood and should have been fired years ago. Supposedly, at the end of the season, the O-line and WR coach will be fired and the DB coach will retire. CPF and perhaps Greg Adkins (tight ends/O-line and recruiting coordinator) will take over the O-line and rather than hiring a new O-line coach a dedicated Special Teams coach will be hired. last edited: 11/01/05 9:31:51 PM” 9:31:11 PM 11/01/05 “From Tidesports.com: Alabama will be the highest-ranked team on the visiting sideline at Scott Field since No. 3 Florida in 2000. MSU defeated the Gators, 47-35.” 7:00:25 AM 11/02/05 “From the Oklahaom message boards: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() last edited: 11/02/05 7:05:02 AM” 7:02:41 AM 11/02/05 “Still no pixmeister.
