Then Notre Dame on the road.

Hey chili, did you see where UT is going to have to fly to Baton Rogue the day of the game, play and them fly home because there are no hotels for the team to stay in.
The may even have to eat the pregame meal in Knoxville before they go.
Hope they remember this when LSU comes to Knoxville.

Ewker, that has been all the talk here. However, Mike Hamilton said he fully expects the rooms to become available.

Sorry, I just don't see that happening in Baton Rouge. It will be a long day for the Vols.

LSU has to be the most absolute worst SEC host. I worry little about the players. However, how the SEC can't at the least force them to play earlier in the day? Not only is it an almost impossible trip for those who already have bought tickets (not a single hotel available 250 miles of BR with the game at 8 EST) but why would a city in the middle of a relief effort and already doubled pop want to add 20,000 more tourist; 7,000 of which from outside the state. Most UT fans are refusing to sale their tickets. Some are going down prepared to drive over 300 miles early Sunday morning.

I am surprised the SEC can't do something about it. That game is probably on ESPN or CBS so that is who is deciding when the game will be played.

Now instead of the fans going out and spending money after the game they will get in the RV's, cars, buses etc and drive home.

I was in Mandeville, LA yesterday and gas was available and much cheaper than locally. We got gas in Mandeville, Meridian, and Hattiesburg.

UT needs to also consider than anything fun for the beleagured LSU's is a good thing right now. It in inconvenient, but I was told tale after tale of folks who lost everything. It feels different when you look them in the eye and hear the stories. As far as "wait til they come to Knoxville" like Ewk said, well, grow up.

sorry dayhiker if you don't agree but I could care less. Of course with your way of thinking so it is UT who cares.

If it is so bad down there then they don't need to be having the game at night then. Seems LSU is more concerned about getting the payoff from whom ever is televising it to worry about UT or it fans. The heck with them they can drive home all night must be there thought

OTOH, this is a longstanding LSU tradition to have night games.

I'm really torn on how I feel. One one hand curfews are the norm down there, but we're going to let 80k folks be out and about til probably midnight? That doesn't make sense. I think there are many arguments about why this should be a day game, UT travel time just isn't way up the list.
dayhiker

dayhiker what you are missing is that is about UT's fans also. You want 7000-10000 people driving back home to Knoxville after the game. I am sure none of them will be drinking either.

So far this whole mess has been about what LSU wants not what is best for everyone involved.

If nothing else, I think LSU should've offered refunds to UT fans who bought tickets. I really thought this game would end up in Shreveport or they would flip the home and home and play in Knoxville this year. They were flexible with ASU, will the evacuee status in Baton Rouge have changed so much only two weeks later?

True, they have suffered much and aid is now pouring in from many sources. But a little flexibility and fairness seems in order to me. How would a time change negatively affect LSU? It seems an easily avoidable inconvenience is being sloughed off on TN.

"UT needs to also consider that anything fun for the beleagured LSU is a good thing right now."
Again, how does a time change affect their fun? Does denying them an all-day drunk diminish the game that much? Perhaps TN should forfeit to give LSU a feel-good victory.

No worries though...it'll be turned into motivation for the Vols.

“Arc, how's Arkansas and the SEC going to fare against USC this weekend?”

karma police

Gee, I don’t know karma. Ya caught me by surprise here. I didn’t realize USC was playing Arkansas AND the entire SEC on Saturday.

Arkansas is predicted to finish near the bottom of the SEC. Arkansas lost to Vanderbilt. That means they stand a good chance of beating USC. The two or three die-hard fans who will be watching that game may even stay awake long enough to care. USC won’t be getting much TV interest this fall.

WHAT A PATHETIC SCHEDULE!

"LSU had a tough time with Arizona State, although I guess that's to be expected."

karma police

If you expected Arizona St. to give LSU a game you must be a GENIUS! I certainly didn’t. I bet that LSU would cover the spread and almost lost my butt on that one. Of course it was LSU’s first game of the season. The game was moved to Arizona at the last minute. And LSU players probably had one or two things on their minds. But I still expected LSU to do better than that. I mean, the PAC-10 is, and historically has been, SO pathetic.

"And what are your Gators going to do this weekend? Run it up on the VOLS?”

karma police

Karma, I can only hope they run it up on the VOLS. The rushing leader has won this game 13 of the last 15 games.

Tennessee has a big, fast, physical defensive front and great linebackers. We’ll see how quickly Florida’s players have got the hang of Meyer’s offense.

Not only did Urban Meyer choose to coach at Florida over Notre Dame, but he also got some Notre Dame coaches to leave that bush-league school and come to Florida. Greg Mattison, the Notre Dame defensive line coach last year, is now UF's defensive line coach. Notre Dame stuffed Tennessee's powerful running game last season, holding the Vols to a meager 58 yards on 39 carries.

We will see. We will see.

I doesn't take a genius to think LSU would have problems. Let's see, probably 3/4 of the families of the team probably took a beating at home, it was their season opener since the previous game was rescheduled, their home game was 1000 miles from home, they opened with a ranked opponent that happens to be pretty good, that ranked opponent had a game the previous week, LSU was still unsettled at QB, LSU's starting TB blew an ACL and is gone for the year, I could go on.....

Why again did you think they would run it up arc?

arclite:

please feel free to poach any of ND's coaches from the last few years, I am sure you'll love what they do to your team. Maybe you can pick up Dietrick (former OC), so it will take 3 years to implement Meyer's offense, or Baer (former DC) so you can come in close to last in passing defense in the nation.

As some one recently said, ND's coaching change to this year's staff was like going from mall cops to the FBI. Good luck with our rejects.

And keep that traitor Meyer. If you sell out "the family" for a few extra bucks and a dorky visor, you deserve to live in Gainsville the rest of your days.

South Bend Indiana…Gainesville Florida… South Bend Indiana…Gainesville Florida …Hell...Heaven...Hell...Heaven...

OK bongo, I promise to live in Gainesville for the rest of my days.

Jealousy is such an ugly thing. "Addams Family" is more like what they've got at ND. What “special favors” do "the fathers" offer those young boys they recruit?

I love listening to you guys from the has-been programs talk about past glories. Notre Dame offered Meyer just as much as Florida. But Meyer saw the future. Notre Dame is a has-been, Florida is an up-and-comer. As a matter of fact, the kids who play nowadays don’t think of Florida as anything but a traditional power. It’s only old farts like you and Dayhobbler who like to live 30 years in the past.

Anyone who can figure a strategy to hold Tennessee to those rushing yard figures is all right by me.

“Why again did you think they would run it up arc?”

DAISYHIKER

These are the ramblings of an engineer? Run it up referred to the VOLS. Beat the spread referred to LSU/Arizona. When I bet the game, LSU was a 1.5 point underdog. My friend’s paper had them as a 1.5 point favorite. If there is a discrepancy in the spreads listed in our two papers (his in NJ, mine in Fl), we go with the spread that is most favorable to the person who picks the game. So I picked LSU as a 1.5 point underdog.

Where did you get your “run it up” conclusion from? What kind of logic is that for an engineer? It scares me to think that you design more complicated structures than pole barns. I’ll be lucky to survive our trip.

The link doesn't work so I have no way of knowing if that is your quote or SIs. I’ll assume its SIs. I have yet to see anything even mentioned about LSU from the team other than Fulmer saying it was an unfortunate situation. Of course, the fans are another story. However, no one in their right mind would or has complained with any seriousness that the evacuees need removed for fans. Thanks for the spin SI. Yes, if I had of bought a ticket I would expect at least the common courtesy for LSU to simply move the game around 2-3 CST. Given that they still are heavily dealing with a doubled pop and relieve efforts from the greatest natural disaster in our nation’s history, why not be a good host?

Ah arclite, it figures that a Florida bigot would have to stoop so low as attack the Catholic character of Notre Dame...sort of a trough of last defense, huh?

Of course, your slurs have got me wondering how many of those Gainsville rednecks tell Florida recruits that they "sure do have purty mouths."

As for living in the past, I understand your hesitation there...you only have that one National Championship to brag about. It must be lonely. We like to think about the 11 that we own.

Oh, and as for the future...well the future of ND football already wears 4 superbowl rings...I think he'd probably need a few NC rings for his other hand.

And that has what to do with running up the score? LSU could have been ahead by 10 or 14 and been in total control. That is what I expected.

Do you consider 10-14 points to be running up the score? That certainly ups the ante on all the scores I could post that would be examples of teams “running up the score.” Oh Lordy, somebody give dayhiker a hanky. He’s gonna be cryin’ ‘bout all those poor humiliated players now.

Chili, trailhound57, and longlosthiker I just want to wish y’all good times.

I am so grateful to be playing Tennessee. I started looking forward to this game, in earnest, after our bowl game ended.

I just love this rivalry. Although it doesn’t have the long history of some other rivalries, it has developed into one of the best games of the year, year after year.

I have never run into an angrily obnoxious Tennessee fan. I have been blessed in that all of the Tennessee fans I have met have at least been cordial if not down right nice folks. I hope that the only obnoxious gator fan y’all have run into has been me.

With an 8pm start, our students will have all day to drink. I hope that some drunken fool does not ruin the game for some visiting Tennessee fan.

I REALLY, REALLY enjoy this game every year. Win or lose, it’s usually a war between two good teams.

I can’t wish that y’all win, but I wish y’all the best.
