Roll Tide Roll!!!! ” 9:16:23 PM 9/10/05 I knew it! “Every year freaking Michigan loses an early season game to screw up their season. Going into the game this week these were my exact thoughts: "This is exactly the type of game that MI will lose--one they should easily win." Never fails.” 9:23:42 PM 9/10/05 22 16 Bucks! “Whoop some Texan ass!” 10:05:04 PM 9/10/05 “WOO HOO ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 10:52:16 PM 9/10/05 “UNM Lobos 45, Mizzou 35 (at Mizzou). Two wins in one week. :D Happiness in Lobo Land tonight!” 10:55:53 PM 9/10/05 “who did the Tide play..Charmin =) sprinklers turned on during the game... to funny The world must be coming to an end Vandy is 2-0. When is the last time that happened? last edited: 9/11/05 12:39:02 AM” 12:32:56 AM 9/11/05 “At least they played this week! It was a great game! Especially when the sprinklers turned on at 10pm!” 12:37:05 AM 9/11/05 “And Prothro probably made the catch of the season!” 12:39:22 AM 9/11/05 “Ouch, did we beat ourselves or what? Michigan - over-rated!” 7:22:02 AM 9/11/05 “ That's one of the best catches I've ever seen. Who thinks the grounskeeper gets a tail chewing over that sprinkler deal? last edited: 9/11/05 7:59:53 AM” 7:57:51 AM 9/11/05 “Arkansas lost to a tough Vanderbilt team last night. Thank goodness this was just a tuneup for next weeks game against those chumps on the west coast, USC.” 8:30:48 AM 9/11/05 “That Texas-Ohio game was great! I wish good teams played each other more often and the championship was worked out in a playoff.... I usually root against Texas cause I don't like Mack Brown, but ya gotta love "Vince-anity." The play calling in the second half was typically stale, but Vince is just hard to stop.” 8:38:35 AM 9/11/05 “Well, it sure seems ND got lucky yesterday...didn't get the game in Switzerland, so I am relying on Internet stories...but they did beat the #3 team in the nation at home yesterday. Usually, you have to get a little lucky to pull that off. We'll take it and hopefully whip another big 10 team next week. Oh yeah, and it is really good to see Ohio State lose at home.” 9:07:14 AM 9/11/05 “It is good to see Ohio State loose anywhere.” 9:33:46 AM 9/11/05 “Hawkeyes sucked, but I think Ferentz will whip them into shape for upcoming games and the Big 10 season. I HATE to lose to Iowa State, but I can't say a loss, especially this time of year, is bad. Rather have it now, cuz it won't matter in ratings later on (funny how that is, you can have a team with 1 or 2 losses really highly ranked by the end of the year. So it would seem rankings are not purely based on losses, but on the evolution of the season........ ) Also, I think it's good a team has the taste of humilation of defeat, so they really don't want it again. OK, Hawkeyes, go on and crush the rest of the teams this season. Especially WI! lol” 10:21:47 AM 9/11/05 “Well, it sure seems ND got lucky yesterday lucky my ass. more like the wolves were over-rated and the irish were under-rated, plus the fact that charlie weiss has the offense playing like a college offense and not girls flag football, to go along with the already good defense. expect the irish to be in the title hunt this year, altho probably not to win it” 10:45:06 AM 9/11/05 “CrashBang, I went to ND. I am a huge ND fan. Stopping the #3 team in the nation 3 times in the red zone in the second half at their field was lucky. Doesn't mean ND isn't good. If they get to USC undefeated...this season could get really interesting.” 3:00:13 AM 9/12/05 “ND looked for real. I find it amazing that the new coaching staff has this team looking so good, so early into their new system. This could be a great coaching move for ND. Iowa was disappointing no doubt, Lizs (I bet them to cover the spread). I think you're right. They've got a great coach and will bounce back. It’s difficult to compare the first two games to the athletes and coaching we’ll see at Tennessee, but here’s what I’ve seen: Florida’s defense is MUCH better than last year. The new coaches play an aggressive, stunting, blitzing, man coverage defense. The defensive line has been good at stuffing the run. The defensive backs are a team strength. They jam receivers at the line and then play tight man coverage. We’ll see how the defensive backs match up with Tennessee’s tall, physical receivers. But they’ve matched up well with Florida’s receivers in practice. If the defense gets some pressure on the quarterback, and the coverage is tight, this will present problems. The offensive line has not progressed as hoped. We have four very talented running backs. But nobody has really shined so far. It remains to be seen if starter DeShawn Wynn can match the production of last year’s SEC rushing leader Ciatrick Faison. Deshawn is 5’11, 230, and has good quickness and speed. The coaches are expecting a lot from him, but his work ethic is in question. We’ll see. Leak’s backup, Josh Portis, the #1 high school option quarterback from California looks promising. He needs more experience but Meyer’s offense will be in good hands when he’s the starter. The receivers are great. We have four receivers that are all making great catches. The punting game is a surprise. Our punter averaged about 45yds/kick with sideline placement. He kicks to the sideline in order to cut off the field. Special teams coverage is so-so.” 6:23:43 AM 9/12/05 “bongofreek. you didnt see the game. i did. luck had nothing to do with it. nd's defense was superior to mi's offense. plain and simple.” 6:37:19 AM 9/12/05 “fair enough. my brother did say if Quinn had a "better" game, ND would have won by 3 touchdowns. This sure beats fighting over if ND sucks or not, lol.” 8:15:25 AM 9/12/05 “And the curse of the mojo lives on another year. :(” 8:31:53 AM 9/12/05 “I made a lot of money of the Notre Dame game.” 10:05:07 AM 9/12/05 “Tennessee Florida, its all about the ground game.” 10:09:17 AM 9/12/05 “The world must be coming to an end Vandy is 2-0. When is the last time that happened? last edited: 9/11/05 12:39:02 AM” Ewker 12:32:56 AM From a Vandy Football article. When? A question many Dore fans know. When was the last time you won? When was the last time you beat an SEC squad? For the first time in more than a decade, the Dores are 2-0 and atop the SEC standings (yes, ahead of the big boy Vols who have only played one game this season). The answer to that question is 1988. That's just sad! Honestly, I feel sorry for them. I have yet to meet in person an actual Vandy football fan that cheered for Vandy football outside the stadium. Fact, the majority of Vandy season ticket holders buy them to see one of Vandy's opponents play. last edited: 9/12/05 10:46:14 AM” 10:43:41 AM 9/12/05 “Arky is probably on a 10 day drunk after his beloved Hogs performance.” 12:26:08 PM 9/12/05 “*sigh* What happened to Michigan? I thought they would do better.... Well, I'm "not supposed" to root for the Irish. But heck, when it comes to nice fans, ND and Michigan are my favorite. Always so nice and classy. I'm sending good wishes to both teams. : ) Bye weeks are boring. But then when we massacre teams that's pretty boring too. At least game days mean I can get together with my alum friends and drink beer and eat pub food. LOL!” 1:26:19 PM 9/12/05 “I was thrilled to see Texas and Notre Dame do so well. I was a UT student for 2 1/2 years and used to go see the horns while I lived in Austin. I've also really admired Note Dame's attempt to maintain a top notch college football program and do right by its studen/athletes academically.” 1:37:56 PM 9/12/05 “Vince Young is the bomb, I must say. That dude carried them single-handedly aginst the best linebacking corps in the country. Hats off to Vince.” 2:24:37 PM 9/12/05 “Here's what I'll get to see this Sat: ![]() The Mighty Cardinal will be welcoming that powerhouse UC Davis to Division I. Tailgater starts at 4 PM; kickoff at 7. I got new seats this year after 22 years in the same seats. Of course, after this season, they'll all be new seats, since the wrecking ball comes out the day after the ND game....” 4:27:42 PM 9/12/05 “Tailgating at 4, game at 7???? What kind of fans are you out there on the left coast? Here it's tailgating starts Thur night and game is 2:30 Sat afternoon.” 4:30:56 PM 9/12/05 “Woo Hoo! Michigan State is currently 2-0. Next up, Notre Dame. Would love to win this one!!! Michigan = "Missed-again" Never party with someone with likes "moldy corn" (blue & Maize).... MSU's the color of money (or what it used to be: green & white)” 4:33:55 PM 9/12/05 “Heh heh. Well, you know, I mean it starts at 4 PM today!” 4:34:26 PM 9/12/05 “Go State!! They've actually done pretty well against the Fightin' Catholics over the past several years, even in years when ND's pretty good....” 4:36:04 PM 9/12/05 “I feel your pain Nigal. After Notre Dame drove for a score on their first possession, I still remember Brent Mushburger saying, "and now here comes Chad Henne and the high powered Michigan offense.” Sput…sput…sput…wheeeeeze. Well, at least you’ve still got your old whipping boy OSU to look forward to. Towndawg, your schedule just became a WHOLE bunch tougher if Notre Dame can maintain. Chili, are you still yuking it up about "a Spurrier coached South Carolina"? You may want to rethink that position. I watched the game. I'm not laughing. Maybe not this year, but my boy is going to cause problems in the east.” 5:04:23 PM 9/12/05 What's that noise? “How out of it am I? I called my daughter on her cell phone Saturday afternoon. After quite a few rings, she answers but is nearly drowned out by what sounds like partying to me. I ask, "Where are you at?" "The GAME dad!" She and 111,000+ others in Michigan Stadium. Duh, she's a senior at UM, but football was the farthest thing from my mind. She said the game had been stopped twice because of stuff being thrown on the field. I asked if she did any of the throwing, and she laughed -- "I couldn't hit the field from where I'm sitting." It IS the BIG House, lol.” 6:30:33 PM 9/12/05 “"“ND looked for real. I find it amazing that the new coaching staff has this team looking so good, so early into their new system. This could be a great coaching move for ND." Arclite Weis is a great talent and its nice to see him get some early success with his coaching team. I'm hoping the Patriots won't miss him too much and that he has a long and successful carreer with Notre Dame.” 10:16:54 PM 9/12/05 “Chili, A 10 day drunk won't do it. The only thing that would work is to beat USC this weekend & you know that ain't gonna happen.” 9:39:35 AM 9/13/05 “Pekka. Congratulations on your daughter for being a senior and getting ready to graduate! :-) Lots of hard work to get there, but I'm sure you're proud! Hopefully, your daughter's graduation ceremonies won't be like my sister's (but I'm sure it will be, if she is graduating in the spring.) After paying for 4 years of college, my parents sat on one side of the football field, while the graduates of the LS & A school sat on the "50 yard line" section... There were so many graduates that you couldn't tell where anyone was--my sister could have been out partying with her friends or asleep in her apartment that morning, for all we knew.... I don't recall there being any separate ceremonies for each department, nor did the grads "walk" across the stage to get their diplomas.... As her older sister, I was let down and disappointed at the university about not being able to even find out where she was sitting in the stadium....(note: this was about 10 years ago, so no cell phones or instant messaging--they also didn't really assign the students any seating, so it literally was a free-for-all). A tip: When your daughter does graduate from U of M, if they hold the graduation at Michigan Stadium, make sure she brings a balloon or puts something on her cap so that you can find her in the crowd--the graduation ceremony is so chaotic and there are so many people, if you don't meet up beforehand, you may have trouble finding her in the stands... That's one thing that I really appreciated about MSU's graduation-- they had 1 large ceremony for the university (with each class standing as a group), and yet, there was also a personal ceremony by college--where each student got to walk the stage and get a "diploma" (not the real one--I think it was a letter inviting us to the alumni association.) Our parents got to hear our names and actually see us "walk" individually. After all of the money spent at the university, they could see a tangible conclusion...” 10:18:27 AM 9/13/05 “pink, no luck on spring graduation -- she's pursuing a double major that will extend things a bit. She advanced placed out of her whole freshman year, though, so it will still be no more than 4 years, including at least one honors thesis. My wife's a UM alum, so I figure she'll have the commencement thing figured out. I skipped my undergrad commmencement, but I enjoyed my grad school commencement. I wasn't sick of school the second time around. Speaking of text messages, the night after the game she sent me the first text message I'd ever gotten on my cell phone -- letting me know she was at the Palace seeing the Green Day concert. Ah, kids have all the fun sometimes, lol.” 1:35:18 PM 9/13/05 “Arc, how's Arkansas and the SEC going to fare against USC this weekend? LSU had a tough time with Arizona State, although I guess that's to be expected. And what are your Gators going to do this weekend? Run it up on the VOLS?” 6:01:38 PM 9/13/05 “Pekka, that's cool :-) My sister graduated around the mid-90s, so maybe things have changed (although many things still stay the same over the years.) The thing I remember most about her graduation was that the speaker made some reference to them being on the 50 yard line... Personally, I was not impressed. I agree with you--I think that a 2nd degree or a grad degree tends to mean more to some people because the undergrad degree is a stepping stone for some... Not required, but much more necessary in this day and age than in the past... Grad school is something people WANT to do and usually pursue as something in their passion vs. something they feel they need to do (hopefully, that makes some sense.) I had an undergrad friend who came back to college in his late 30s... I had never seen anyone study so hard in my life-- but he WANTED to be there, and knew the value of his education... vs. the 18-22 yr old undergrads who were mostly coasting along on their parents' money...” 10:20:35 AM 9/14/05 “Arclite, I heard a rumor that Florida has a 28% third down conversion rate against the two high school teams they played this year. Oh, and that whopping 2.8 ypg punt return average is impressive also. Sauteed gator, I can't wait.” 12:48:30 PM 9/14/05 “5 point favorite, chili. Do you think the odds makers know something you don't? Well...actually... they probably know a WHOLE BUNCH of stuff you don't. Heck, my dog probably knows more than most Tennessee fans. Y'all come!” 3:39:13 PM 9/14/05 “What the odds makers know is that a whole lot of drunk wannabee gamblers put more money of Florida, so they had to set the odds to even the bets. Those oddsmakers are pretty slick at doing things like that.” 3:41:23 PM 9/14/05 “Hopefully Arkansas can provide a nice game for us this Saturday. I get sort of bored with so little action on the part of our opposing teams. *yawn* (I don't mean this in a snotty way folks, I'm serious! Shut out, massacres are getting dull.)” 6:46:11 PM 9/14/05 “well if top-ranked teams would quit playing powderpuff schedules, there wouldnt be so many massacres. but nobody wants to jeapordize their national championship chances, and the poll voters never take into consideration quality of wins or quality of losses, so you get 11 weeks of Florida State Gators vs Alaska Tech Fighting Girls” 1:42:29 AM 9/15/05 “Of course, Crash Bang. Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida St. powderpuffs all. Traditional powderpuffs. Everyone who knows college football knows that. I see the wisdom of your thought process with regards to the team you mention. But then, I need glasses… Thick ones… Coke bottles… With a strong reading light… And a large magnifying glass. We're pretty scared down here, chili. Mighty Tennessee comes to town with National Championship aspirations. We have nothing but self-doubt. Tennessee is great. Tennessee has great athletes. Florida is just a patchwork quilt of poor slobs trying to pay their way through college by trying their hand at a game for which they are marginally qualified. You could hardly call our players athletes. I just don’t know what we’re going to do. Somebody help us. We tremble before the magnificence that is Tennessee football. Oh woe is us. I hope Tennessee fans enjoy your time in Gainesville. Wishing Tennessee fans happiness is all I’ve got this weekend that gives meaning to my life. Y’all come!” 6:19:05 AM 9/15/05 “…Oh… Crash Bang… sorry if I haven’t taken your phenomenal knowledge of the college football world seriously before. I need to rethink my position on that. How ‘bout those Michigan St. Wolverines!!!” 6:38:38 AM 9/15/05 “gee, most people wait until after the game to justify their loss, arclite. You have the early jump on this.” 11:39:52 AM 9/15/05 “Dang chili, he sounds like a 21st century Alabama fan.” 11:50:32 AM 9/15/05 Jump to Page << prev
