The sportscasters mentioned that he did exactly the same thing at Florida.

Unfortunately he doesn't have much to work with. His players ran out of gas as the game wore on. His lines (off and def) are undersized. His running game is non-existent. His defense was bad at best. Give him a few years. Let's see how the recruiting at South Carolina goes.

At least Phil Fulmer can breathe a sigh of relief this year.





Did anyone catch any of the preseason shows?

I especially loved the one where they said that the SEC was THE football conference. Kirk Herbstreit (didn’t he play for Penn. St.?) tried to talk up the big ten but the other four pundits laughed him down.

I also loved it when Lee Corso said that the SEC East was by far the toughest division in football, maybe even including the pros.

Then there was Bill Curry saying that genius was an overused term, but that it certainly applied to Spurrier as far as football knowledge and strategy. He said that the two weren’t buddies but that Spurrier seemed like a nice enough guy.



When you’re right, YOU’RE RIGHT! How’s that for humble?




Shall we start posting blowout scores again? After seeing some scores last night, it seems like we’re headed for another typical season where there are hundreds of games where teams will be “running up the score.”

I’ve got an idea. Let’s start a club for those who think that the only reason for lopsided scores is to humiliate the other team and that it’s poor sportsmanship. Our black hat poster boy will be Steve Spurrier.

We can have a secret initiation where we stick our thumbs in our mouths and say WUH…WUH…WUH…WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.




I’m going to the store now. I’m going to buy them out of snacks. I plan to have a veritable smorgasbord surrounding me on Saturday. I’m going to have butt calluses by Saturday night.

I don't think ND's new coach will ever be in a fog...Michigan should have the better players, but I am convinced Weis can out coach just about anybody. Not that Lloyd Carr is much of a challenge to figure out.

But this isn't Ty Willingham's ND team, I have a feeling it'll be a lot tougher to beat us this year than in 2004. How ND beat Michigan last year is still beyond me.”

The Texas Ohio St. game ought to be GREAT! That’s the marquee match-up this week. Bring on the chips, the dip, and the porky belly!




Yeah, JO, everyone knows the ACC is better than the SEC. I certainly don’t need to say anything more about the incredible dominance of the ACC over the entire college football world.

Just because Vanderbilt beat Wake doesn’t mean anything. And just because the worst team in the SEC, Kentucky, gave the #12 team, Louisville, all they could handle, doesn’t mean a thing. Those games were flukes. The SEC is overrated and will have another typically pathetic year.






You are too humble, chili. You know that Tennessee was just being polite. Tennessee had the chance to crush their opponent but didn’t want to destroy the fragile egos of the UAB players by running-up-the-score on them. After seeing some of the many humiliating scores this past week, you’ve got to consider Tennessee to be one of the most genteel teams in the nation. What sportsmen!

“I must say I was disappointed with the offense also. Even with the turnovers UT had an opportunity to at least covered the spread. That was an unusual offensive game. UT moved the ball plenty to score as there were only a couple 3 and outs. Of course, I do believe they will greatly improve between this game and the next. Nevertheless, I'm surprised that no one is giving credit to UAB. The University of AL in Birmingham at least this early in the year (lack of depth appears to be a problem involving injuries and schedule) appears to be the best team in the state of AL. I certainly can't think of another QB in the nation I would rather have than Hackney.

on a local sports show they were talking that Hackney will probably be the best QB that UT will see this yr. It was also mentioned that UAB has a chance to go undefeated the rest of the season. If they do that helps UT in the polls later on.”

“The thing that surprised me about that game wasn't Hackney, locals have known about him since he was a freshman, but UAB's D. Last year they were something like 112th in passing D. Either they've gotten better, UT was holding back, UT had a really bad day, or UT's in trouble.”

UAB started off like gangbusters last year and totally collapsed at the end. I don't see them doing that this year. Their collapse was from the D and hopeuflly, that's been shored up.

UAB was 7-5 last year, played in the Hawai'i Bowl and is picked to win conference USA easily this year. Scary team to play coming out of the gate. However, I can't think of a better team to play in prep for UF. A team like UAB usually struggles later in the season due to lack of depth on both sides of the ball. Any injury becomes terribly critical.”
