Rammer Jammer and Minnesota's Rocky Top both classless! Maybe funny or even a tradition but still classless.

Just curious (really and truly, this is not a flame, I just honestly don't understand);

Why is this thread on The Backpacker? It has nothing to do with backpacking?

Maybe for the same reason that the feugo theads are here. Folks talk about life and not gear around a campfire. Sports is an element of that. Also, folks from this thread have had dedicated sports trips on multiple occasions. We've been to the Ozarks, Sipsey Wilderness, and hopefully the Smokies coming this fall.

Are you serious? You've been a member since '01. The majority of the discussion on this board are not about backpacking. This is not a backpacking website but a site for backpackers. Unfortunately, websites like these do harbor a lot of uncredible agenda pushing post and unchallenged perceptions.

I thought that was what John Holmes did to Seka.

It's too bad there is no play off that would test Auburn's claim to be #1. BCS sure needs a lot of tweaking. They sure looked solid against VT, even if they did let VT make the score respectable in the end.

“It's too bad there is no play off that would test Auburn's claim to be #1”

Exact-a-muno! Not sense 1975 have we had two unbeatens not get a shot at the title. The NCAA post season is dead to me! DEAD! It’s all about the money and there is absolutely NO respect for tradition left. When I saw Texas was going to the Rose I threw my hands up and said, “That’s IT!”. No PAC-10/Big-10 showdown? Every NCAA sport has a play off but football. So we have a sport that ends at the end of November then they sit around cooling their heals and loosing any type of momentum they may have gained at the end of the season and then a month later they get to play in a bunch of bowl games that mean nothing except Tostitoes and Nextel and Nokia get their names out there.

Nigal, since you didn't answer the question, I'll ask it again. Are you considering a trip south to GOD'S country for the Jericho trip?

I'm going to Michigan for a week in late September hopefully. Other than that I'll keep it open. How many people we talking about?
Nigal

I don't know, maybe 6 or so. More have expressed interest, but the numbers always fall the month of the trip.

We're thinking of something where we can hit leaves. We'll probably have a good bit of elevation change to make sure we hit a zone that's at peak. Cataloochee might be the best choice since it has the best interstate access for folks who might be driving a good ways such as Arky and Dunadan. Gregory Bald is nice, but it is a little further from the interstate.

Probably the weekend of 10/23. It's UT/UA weekend. That's the only weekend Arky doesn't have to ref HS football games.

From a previous post:

There was some talk on another thread about a foliage trip to the Smokies. Anyone interested in a Smokies trip the 3rd or 4th weekend in Oct? That's around peak time for leaves. We'll probably need to plan some elevation change so that we can be sure and cross into some leaves. If we're early, just climb and we'll get color.

Camping at #13 at Gregory Bald might be good. The campsite is at about 4500' with the bald at 5000'. 360* views overlooking Fontanna lake and Cades Cove.

Another option might be Cataloochee. We could possibly find a campsite close to a bald and have the same type view. An added bonus is the Cataloochee elk herd. They'd probably be in the middle of their bugling for that time of year.

Another old post:

I screwed up by setting up the possibility of another Football thread trip only on email.

The very loose and general plan:

WHEN: Probably weekend of 10/22/05
WHERE: Probably Smokies. Gregory Bald or Cataloochee have been mentioned. Gregory overlooks Cades Cove. Cataloochee has elk. Both have balds that would offer wide views
WHO: Anyone who participates in this thread. It's a good food and fun type of trip with lots of bs about how each individuals sports team is far superior to all of the other teams.

So far, the folks who've expressed an interest are dayhiker, cocoa, arc, chili, Arky, and Dunadan. This is basically who went on the first football thread trip, with the exception of arc. The first trip was hosted by chili and Arky in the Ozarks. We have since had one or two smaller trips to the Sipsey Wilderness

They have looked awesome pretty much all year. You guys just didn't listen to me. In fact my alumni were all saying that the game was sort of lackluster like any typical game.

And the ultimate insult, my Washington friend said he thought the Huskies played SC harder than Oklahoma did. I wouldn't go that far, but seriously Oklahoma wasn't very much of a challenge compared to a lot of the teams we played in the Pac 10, such as Cal and Stanford, even UCLA! (gasp! Did I just pay FUCLA a compliment?!?!)
