hot or cold?
Which would you rather be? Most people love one and loathe the other. I would rather be hot. I hate being cold.

RE: hot or cold?
Because I live in Florida my obvious preference would seem to be hot.

Considering I just suffered from heat exhaustion I'm tempted to say cold.

My father (from North Dakota) used to say, "You can always dress for the cold." I always say, "When it's hot I can always find water or air conditioning."

I'll go with jerbear, comfortable.

I hope we are talking ambient temperature here. I prefer the cold. I think walkindude's temp range is just about perfect for hiking.

Leaf off and no people. Perfect.

Warm weather is for golf.

Cold - You can always put more clothes on, but in summer, you can only take some many off.

RE: hot or cold?
It's all good, but there is something really amazing about watching a moonrise from my favorite winter campsite on the shore of a frozen lake; watching the moon shadows of the evergreens loaded down with snow change shape as the moon makes it's way across a crystal clear sky. It's so quiet where I go you can hear the snow fall. Your ears ring for a day or two as they adjust to the lack of sound. The snow muffles sounds and the trees crack like a 22 as the sap freezes. I've been camping where it never got above zero for 5 days and not been uncomfortable.
I'd never turn down a hot trip though. I want to do some desert hiking someday soon.

Great description, Le Subtil. My brother and I once took a walk on a frozen lake at midnight, when it had just finished snowing. It was awesomely beautiful. We found ourselves whispering, because the hush seemed so unusual.

RE: hot or cold?
Definitly the cold!

You can keep putting clothes on to keep you warm when it's cold out, but you can't keep taking off clothes to cool you down when it's hot.

I remember when I was reeeaaally young that I'd be so happy to see the first snowfall. Snowballs and snowboarding...yeah!

I definitely like cooler to cold weather. I enjoy being outdoors much more in the fall/winter/spring than in the summer. You can dress for the colder weather, but you can only take off so many clothes.

Oh... wait... you meant hiking? Ummmm, anytime! Unless it's 'slap you in the face with a hot, wet wool blanket' hot, or 'freeze your eyelashes together' cold, I'll go!
Besides, there's nothing wrong with nekkid hiking so long as you use sunscreen... :o)

Ditto what LeSubtil said, but my favorite time to hike is by far the fall. The smell of decaying leaves, the colors, and the cool temps at night in front of a fire, with a chilled bear, and a young girl named Gabrielle Anwar rubbing your sore muscles.. oh, sorry I started daydreaming again.

I love the cool fall, but around here, that usually means rain.

I'd have to say, that it's more fun cooling off, near a mountain stream, than trying to stay warm, near a frozen lake.
