Summer Trips?

“What's up, kiddies? I haven't been around much lately (not that anyone would notice, sob, sob) as I've been working loke a dog in an effort to secure thing before I leave for TWO WHOLE WEEKS!

I'm heading up with the woman and mutt to the north coast of CA, some milling around time in a few of the coastal towns and then four days of backpacking up the Lost Coast, which we love. Then I'll come back and meet up with all my old buds from ATL and head to the High Sierra for a week of backcountry in the Sequoia. I'll definitely post trip reports and pics when I return.

What's everyone else got working for summer backpacking trips?”

“We are doing part of the Long Trail in Vermont sometime in August for 1-1/2 weeks. Our trip planner is slacking on getting the detailed stuff done, so I don't know exactly where yet.”

I'm mailing a re-supply ahead...so I only have to carry 8 days worth of food at a time. We were going to try and do the whole thing ....still not sure we may take our time and bail out at Cedar Grove finish it next year, we'll see how it goes.”

“10 days in Glacier National Park, Montana. A twelve mile day hike and a seven day, 58 mile loop hike. Can't wait.”

I'm doing a 9-day trip in the Monarch Divide (Kings Canyon NP) in August. Also in August, a 4-day mostly cross-country trip with my son in Mokelumne Wilderness. I'll be doing more short trips between now and then, unless of course someone is cruel enough to hire me. ;-)”

“Hetch Hetchy next weekend; 50 miler 2 weeks later w the scouts, probably Lost Coast Trail area somewhere; Llamarama late July; anything and everything I can fit in between these. Been spending a lot of time in the Sierra's last few years, would like to get up to Trinity Alps at least ONCE this year...

“I hesitate to post this. I did post last year and the thread went down in flames (literally) in no time flat. For a while now, I've wanted to hike in to Sand Lake in the Five Ponds Wilderness Area of the Adirondack Park. It's a 12 mile walk which ought to mean that it will be relatively secluded. It hasn't happened because my life has usually been in a shambles by the beginning of July. Two years ago I was supped to go with an ex-girlfriend. Last year my son was ill - he's been ill this year too, but I hope to make it during the first week of July. I plan on three nights during the week.”

Just sorta wandering around through Gardiner and Sixty Lakes basins. We'll probably make some sort of loop out of it by heading up thru Gardiner, over to Sixty Lakes and down the PCT thru Rae Lakes and then out Bubbs Creek. Have you been in this area before? Any advice?”

“I've got a couple days in the northeast corner of Yosemite NP/Toiyabe NF around Virginia pass in the end of June. But, I'm having difficulty finding info on weather. Anybody know what to expect?”

“Rosey...I have exited on the Bubbs Creek trail before but have not been to Rae Lakes or Sixty Lakes Basin.

“Dunk, that ISP's server died and I have a new e-mail address: tehipite@value.net. I haven't had a chance to update the website yet (have lots of trips to post). We'll be going into the same general area, but doing a little more ambitious route--Snow Canyon, Grouse Lake, Devil's Corral, and out. btw, I did an overnight from Highway 4 into Frog Lake (not the one near Carson Pass) last week; it's a great area. No snow on the south-facing slopes, lots of cornices on the north side and small drifts in the shade.

Roseymonster, I haven't done that particular part of KCNP. I've heard Gardiner is great. I've avoided the Rae Lakes area because it's so crowded, but it looks spectacular. Remember your bear can!”

“Going to Zieleski this weekend. Abby's first trip. All else depends upon how she does. Maybe Isle Royale the last week of August.”

“Leaving for FL soon- planning to hike in the mountains of Virginia and NC on the way down and back. Going to NH and Maine the end of August. Want to plan a trip to Adirondacks in late Sept. Working towards my first backpacking trip one weekend in Sept.”

“Boy, you guys are planners! The only trip I've got somewhat "planned" is Yosemite end of July. I'm more of a "fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants" kind of gal. I plan on going hiking & kayaking every chance I get and planning some backpacking trips. I was looking at the map for Pt. Reyes & would like to plan a backpacking trip to maybe Sculptured Beach in August. Anyone interested?!”

“I usually never know when and where I'm going hiking till a week before the trip.

However, I am planning to go somewhere...sometime...soon!”

“Well, I just got back from the Keweenaw - rocky shoreline, loons, cool temps. and bugs, bugs, bugs.

On Saturday, I leave for two weeks in Seattle. But, I'm not sure if there is any hiking in the area.

In late July, I'll be in Sault St. Marie for a week for a conference. So, I'll be within an hour of some of the mid-continent's best hiking.

Other than that, I'm planning some grill parties at my place.”

“One fine week on the north half of the tahoe rim trail, that is if this fire doesn't get to far south and scortch the woods in this area. Cool, quiet, just me and my wife, what a fine week it will be. Just getting the permits reserved, and deciding what to eat. Maybe even a stop at one of the fine hotels in the area. Nothing like washing the dirt and sweat off.”

“ChinaChas, your next trip falls right between our Oregon Coast trip and my Rainier climb, so though I'd love to get back to either place, it'll have to wait. BTW, how long does it take to get to Eagle Cap from Portland? Last time I was there was in 1972 and we flew in a private plane.”
