U.S.F.S. GPS Page
I ran across this page while looking for other info. It's the US Forest Service's GPS Page. If you're into it, check it out!

RE: U.S.F.S. GPS Page
Last night my friends and I were trying to find some bar near Cleveland that was having an open mic night. There were two cars, and I was in the car following the other. Well, we drove in circles for a looong time 'cause noone knew exactly where this place was, and we kind've got lost. At one stop, my buddy from the leading vehicle, who was the frustrated driver, asked me if I brought my GPS. It was pretty funny, because just before we stopped I was telling everyone in our car how the thing would've helped us out of this jam. But of course I didn't have it. End of story.

Ok, I need one of the GPS geniuses to help me understand this site. What is a "Trimble Community Base Station GPS reference data"? Is this outdated stuff since Bill Clinton removed random signaling algorithm? I thought CBS was located in New York, along with ABC and NBC.

I am lost. I will trade my navigation merit badge to someone who can explain this to me.

RE: U.S.F.S. GPS Page
Trimble Community Base station data is a proprietary format for use in making post-processed differential corrections with Trimble Pathfinder/GeoExplorer GPS receivers. These files may also be used with other post processed DGPS receivers such as those manufacuted by Corvallis MicroTechnology and Ashtech.

Any more questions?

From my view point the USFS needs a whole lot more classes on GPS and woody things. My SAR team goes out at least once a year looking for some of their people. Was out last week looking for a snow sirvay team.

I went out today and found my first (and second) geocache. I entered the UTM coordinates into a waypoint and went to find the spots. I was within 25' of both caches, of course the ground was covered with snow which made finding them hard...but I found'em.

Someone else made a thread for the Geocache site a few weeks ago. Here it is again.

Just saw a clip about www.geocache.com on CNN Headline News. This is the 2nd report on TV I've seen in the last week about this activity.

Who'd've thunk!?!
