My argument is nonpartisan. I just think that there are so many bad, inconsistent things happening in Florida that the result will be meaningless.

The Constitution provides for a solution in indeterminate elections - the Congress. And the Congress is elected by the people and can by extension express the will of the people.

And Margo, the makeup of Congress would result in Bush as president. Reactionary Republicans remain silent.

Another thing to think about: In Florida the electors are not constitutionally bound to vote for the candidate with the most popular votes. Given the uncertainty, controversy, disenfranchisment of 19,000, and narrow margins, I'm not certain that all 25 will vote fot the same candidate.

The House will vote by state delegation, so there will be 50 votes - the winner needs 26. In the new House, the Republicans have majorities in 28. So, Bush would be president.

If there is a tie in the Senate, the Constitution is ambiguous about whether the VP breaks the tie. Assuming he can, the Senate could vote for Lieberman or Gore as VP. Result: Democratic shadow president who could kill anything Bush wanted to do.
