Ozark Bound
Planning to do the Ozark Highland Trail next week. Anyone with any info or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I am SOOO ready to get out of here.

Also planning to head to Washington State next summer for a couple of weeks and would love some guidance for great places to hit on the trip up (from Oklahoma of course).

And---since I'm bumming info here--anyone been in the Gulf Shores area? Way south, but have a friend who has a house on the beach and he says I should put my boots on and hike the beach. Pretty tempting to hang out there for awhile, too. Now I'm going to go read all the newest threads I've missed in the past couple of weeks.

RE: Ozark Bound
colorado-you'd sure be welcome. I'm looking forward to being in Washington state, but the trip up has as much to offer as being there. Thought Mel might be around with some Oregon advice.

How far east? I have always wanted to go east, but have never been too far to that end of the world. I'd love to visit Maine. Living in Oklahoma has one good benefit...It makes EVERYWHERE else seem like a great place to visit.

RE: Ozark Bound
You been hidding?

What to see in Washington St. Gosh, there is alot. If you never been on a volcano there a few there really worth seeing. If you have never been to a rainforest you can see one there as well. Tourist spots like MT. Rainer and Mt St. Helens and the Olympic Penisula are all worth see even if crowds are around. You never know if you are planning to go back so I would recommend trying to see as much as possible. If you have the chance/time take the ferry over to the O.P. and then the one over Victoria, B.C.

Of course if time is limited just pick any of those aforementioned spots and you are guaranteed to have a great time barring any inclement weather.

RE: Ozark Bound
Gulf Shores is nice, but you may want to head on over to the Destin/Fort Walton area a few miles to the east while you're there. The Destin area has some of the best beaches in Florida and the U.S.

Yes, take your boots off and hike the beach. The water is cooling off but should still be warm enough to splash around in or surf with a wetsuit. (Although the Gulf Coast usually doesn't have much in the way of waves, unless there's a storm to the south.)

By the way Converted 42, I'm reading The Grapes of Wrath about these Okies who were booted off their land and forced to head to California. That ever happen to you?

Modern Deer season continues through December 3rd so be sure and wear bright colors. A hunter orange vest and hat would be a good idea. Hunters are usually very friendly and conservationists as well.

The Ozark Highland Trail Assn is planning an overnight hike this weekend. It will be on a private plot of land that was donated to them.

November is so much the perfect time to hike in the Ozarks, you will have a blast.

Hey Washingtonians - Lets get an impromtu trip together for C42. Let him see from the experts up here what Wash. has to offer. He said he will be here for several weeks, so scheduling could be doable. I'm not talking a get-together, just a hike here or there.

Don't miss "Twin Falls"

If I could persuade you to delay your trip until after Thanksgiving and to go to the Buffalo River area instead. Ole Jerbear & myself would just give you a personal tour of Hemmed-In-Hollow, Indian Creek....and much more. How much time do you have???

RE: Ozark Bound
jerbear-not converted "from", but converted "to". Took my first big hike this year and have been addicted ever since. My first biggie was into the Uintas and now I can't get enough. Did some trails in Colorado, Southern Utah Canyonlands and then had to come back home to Oklahoma. Sadly the 42 is an age thing.

Mozark/jerbear - How does the weather look for this coming week in your end of the world? I am curious about how much wind I'll encounter there. It blows from hell here and I wondered how it was in that area.
