I just did not want to tell because my school is in the news papers, allot (not because of crime).” 5:17:40 PM 11/15/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “(Not because of spelling bees, either) Just kidding! I ruined my synthetic by storing it in it's stuff sack. Now, what was a 0 degree bag I won't take out if it's below 40. My new down (REI Sub-Kilo) gets pampered in a very large cotton sack. And yes, the Thermarest is layed out under the bed with the valve open. Musn't crush the foam or trap moisture!” 1:36:59 AM 11/17/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “In a large garbage bag. Works for me.!!!” 11:29:19 PM 11/17/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “I usually stuff it up a Republican's ___. Very roomy and full of hot air. There is no escaping the political posturing!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!” 12:21:53 AM 11/18/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “In extra large mesh laundry bags. I pull them out, fluff 'em up and loosly restuff them in their bags if they haven't been used for a couple of months. I prefer to store them in a cedar closet that has a dehumidifier that maintains the relative humidity between 20 and 30 percent but that's not a possibility for me at this point in time! Iced Tea: I'm a hick who is unfamiliar with the use of what you refer to as Microsoft Word 2000 spelling check so please excuse "percent" if its supposed to be two words.” 12:34:02 AM 11/18/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “its = it's” 12:44:15 AM 11/18/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “hang 'em from the ceiling, and yeah, I've got a whole gear room too” 12:59:19 AM 11/18/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “Have mine all laid out on top of storage boxes in my 3rd floor gear room. Probably should rig a hanger area to free some space.” 10:23:03 AM 11/18/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “piss on it and stick in the corner that way my wife thinks the dogs been there and leaves it the h@ll alone!” 4:10:21 PM 11/18/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “I put mine under my bed so It stays nice and fluffy.” 11:32:21 AM 11/19/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “there was a reference made to cleaning a sleeping bag. Was that how to clean a down bag?” 12:30:11 PM 11/19/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “MOM, yo must be a better house keeper than I. If I put our bags under the bed I'd have to kick out the dust bunnies before every trip! We hang ours in the cotton sacks, keeps 'em clean and fluffy. I-am-om, your bag didn't come with care instructions? You can clean down items in your home washer. You just have to dry them on LOW with a bunch of tennis balls. Depnding upon how much you like your bag and it's value though, I'd probably just take it to the dry cleaners and spend the thirty or so $ to get it proffessionally done.” 8:52:33 AM 11/20/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “I wouldn't trust a dry cleaners with my bag. I wash mine in the tub; real gently. They make a soap for down but I've used powdered Woolite a lot too. When it's wet it's heavy and easy to tear the inside baffles. Press the majority of the water out slowly and carefully before lifting it out of the tub. Then I air dry them out of the sun (I have a line in the garage), and finally the dryer with no heat and tennis balls to fluff. I store mine in cotton bags provided by the mfgr or king size pillow slips, in big rubbermade tubs (mouseproof?)in the garage.” 9:24:04 AM 11/20/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “I have a rectangular Hollofill bag I bought in 1974. Storage isn't a problem as I use it as a comforter. I have usually had it dry cleaned. One important warning (all warnings are, of course, important): air it thoroughly as the fumes can prove fatal - especially with mummy bags. My 20° mummy is stored on my closet shelf in a pillow ticking. It is a Quallofill bag and is not compressed; I have been doing this since 1988. My -30° Quallofill bag is too big to go into anything I own and if I owned a laundry bag big enough I'm not sure Icould get it into the closet. I have it laid out on one of my sofas - but I'm worried that it will start smelling like curries or french fries - any ideas? I would never store a bag in a garbage bag which is of unbreathable plastic. My dry cleaner is excellent and very skilled with leather goods (this is the country), down and synthetic clothing and sleeping bags. He is also skilled at washing, using front loaders and an adjustable dryer (with tennis balls). Happy trails.” 1:14:22 PM 11/20/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “thanks for reply joy...I inherited this fantastic down bag from my boss, so I didnt have care instructions. lesubtil....thanks too for the instructions.......I did take the bag to a dry cleaner and they would not accept it...saying they (down bags) are risky business for them...” 1:21:53 PM 11/20/00 RE: How Do You Store Your Sleeping Bag? “I-am-OM, I also use the bathtub trick. Nikwax makes a detergent specifically for down filled items. It works great.” 4:50:22 PM 11/20/00
