RE: Rangers Lead the Way!
Hyperpacker, hoped he would just go away, maybe we should let him continue to pat himself on the back until his arm breaks.

Hope I don't offend my sensible Marine Corps brothers in arms. I belive bacpac is either a wannabe, is trolling (#1 guess), or is overly brain washed.

As for the budget thing. Haha. You don't know squat about how government and military spends money. If you actually belive the Marines give money back from their budget, your brain damaged. If they had enough to give back, their budget would be shortened the next year by the same amount, and the process would continue every year. Common, what General would give back a few million when he could buy some more ammo for training?

Hand me down equipment? Never said you got our old stuff, you get stuff after everyone else gets it - keeping up with the Joneses. The Army had M1s first, M16's, Kevelars, etc. The only thing the marines got first in my memory over the last 15 years was those new soft boots because their recruits were getting blisters.

Your Vietnam thing. That sounds so like the Marine brass looking from their point of view. Kind of like the FBI, it is all in the marketing - we are the best, others suck, we bail them out, our goofs are not our fault. So, lets look from the Army perspective. Marine moral low (they were getting their butts kicked), Army takes over (relief in place so the Marines can take showers ansd stuff while the Army holds THEIR positions), Army leaves and Marines have to go back in (Army gets out when the Marines are now ready to try again). Oh, and the VC was using MC equipment against the Army, but we were too nice to tell you about it.

On to Desert Storm. Lets see, the main Marine job was to get in boats, make like they were doing an amphibious invasion in Kuwait, then to pull back out to sea and wait. Sounds tough. Oh yes, there was a battalion of marines with the Saudi Armor so they could escort the arab liberators into town, and to re-capture the embasy and get the coffee pot started. Menwhile the Army was using 2 ground Cavalry troops (18 M1s and 12 M3s) to destroy a Brigade. The famous quote from one Iraqi battalion commanders: "At the begining of the air war I had 35 tanks, at the end 32. After 30 minutes of the battle with the M1s (that's the cav) I din't have any.

Now on to your "We don't need a hat". No, you need a whole uniform and special name. Gee, last time I looked, the Marines were actually part of the NAVY. But to be different, you couldn't settle for just a hat, you need a whole suit, deny any connections, and come here and talk crap while not even actually thinking about what you say.

If the Navy decided that their uniform wasn't drawing recruits and wanted to have all sailors wear dress blues, you would be singing bloody murder.

Parades and medals? What is your dress uniform? Silent Drill Team? Drum and Bugle Corps? I suppose none of that counts.

Look, I truly belive that 90% of the Marines and ex-Marines out there know they are good, and when we have a discussion about the Rangers, don't need to butt in and say "What about me, I'm a Marine!".

I'm planing to go hiking, so troll to yourself, or go Troll on the Candel Lantern thread. I hear the wimps are worried about spilled wax.

Sgt Rock, You need to do a little research. Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but mistating the facts does not help your case.

RE: Rangers Lead the Way!
Oh look, he is back.

Which fact?

The one about spending. I'm very familiar with this one. No reserach needed, I've experienced it first hand.

Hand me down equipment and gear. Worked with Marines at Ft. Know, their words, not mine.

Vietnam? Everyone had a bad take on that, if you wanna go research the USMC archives, be my guest. I will not speculate on the brave soldiers and Marines who died for your flame enjoyment.

Desert Storm. It's fact. The only real battle that the Marines were in was Kafje (sp?) and they called for fire until the Saudi Armor and US air ran the Iraqi stuff out. They didn't have the assets to take a greater roll. As for the battle of the '73 Easting, no marines for hundreds of miles. If you never heard of it, maybe you need to research before you think you know it all.

Marines part of the Navy, it is a fact.

Marines mad if the Navy wanted your blues, your right. Lets find out. Call your congressman and demand it, because your tougher than a Ranger and can take it.

Parades and medals? Saw it first hand on some Marine day thing at Fort Knox. The Marines had the Drum and Bugle Corps come out with the Silent Drill team, then it was made mandatory for just about everyone to come down and watch. I didn't dream them up.

And as for my last comment, it is supposition that 90% of Marines are self confident enough to not need to say "What about me!", I guess the real figure is probably higher. But not for you.

And as for my hike. That is also real.

Do you ever not want to be the center of attention? Hey, go troll on the really short threads, they are lonely.

Sgt Rock,

Wow you really have a hard-on this morning. The Marine Corps does return unspent money, call the Department of the Defense. The incidents of Marines taking and retaking positions lost by the Army in Vietnam is well documented. General Swartzkopf was the one who said the Marines had the toughest assignment in Desert Storm.

The Marine Corps does issue Army surplus equipment to its troops. I used a lot of it. The Marine Corps does report to the Department of the Navy I never denied that. I guess your crack about gay sailors means you don't like the Navy either.

Have a nice day and try to cool off.

RE: Rangers Lead the Way!
I am cool ;^)

Everyone returns unspent money. Not just the Marine Corps. Like I said, I am familiar with the system. Why are you thumping your chest about something everyone does. Might as well say Marines fart. Duh.

You must have a hard on against the Army and the Rangers, your the one that came here and started this mess when no one was even talking about the Marines. I guess we need a good natured "My service is better, naynay!" thread.

Gee, I use Army surplus in the Army too. Sometimes units turn stuff in and others get it. Heck the whole Government works on this sytem - it's called DRMO. Where you ever higher thatn Lance Corporal? You don't seem to know much about the military and government besides what your DS told you and what you read.

I guess because you originally got touchy about the Marines, you expect me to be hostile. The funny thing is I laugh my head off about your posts and just how bi-polar you can be.

Never said I didn't like the Navy. Just poking fun at the steryotypes. I think if anyone needs to chill it is you. Your the one always trolling, not me.

Again, why is it you decided to flame the Rangers on this thread? I can only guess, but seems like you need to keep yourself the center of attention.

And my wife denied the hiking request, DAMN! Stupid honeydo lists.

RE: Rangers Lead the Way!
Sgt. Rock,

You are incorrect the Marine Corps is the ONLY branch of the Armed Forces that returns money. Not that it is a big deal, but you are kinda loose with the facts.

My crack about Rangers wanting to be Marines may have an element of truth to it and I thought it was funny. I didn't know you would get hostile, but I wasn't surprised.

I know I have a reputation for being a trouble maker, but generally I just make observations and the trouble erupts. Do I do it to get attention? Of course, so does everyone else.

I only spent four years in the MC and it was a long time ago. I still enjoy poking fun at the other Armed Forces though. I was a Sergeant when I was discharged.

RE: Rangers Lead the Way!
Well here I am. I've been lurking to see where this one was going and here's my take on this situation:

I hate this change because I believe that the Rangers deserve the distinction that comes with the black beret and that this move was not carefully thought through. As for the recruiting ploy that many of you have referred to I do think that is a big part of the idea. Many young men and women enlist in the USMC for the uniform and I'll even admit that it is the finest looking uniform in the armed forces today. I think that is what the Army is trying to capture. As for the history of the services we all have done great things and from time to time have made some mistakes. The Army does have more accomplishments to bragg about this a FACT but you have to understand that we are the oldest and largest branch of the service so it stands to reason we should have more kudo's.Equipment is not an issue we all have the finest equipment on earth and each branch is doing tramendous amounts of research to make it even better.None of us will ever agree on everything that big brother is doing but we all have to agree that you are protected by the finest forces on earth and I am damn proud to have done my part! HOOOOAH!!!!!!!

They should wear pink berets.

That is more in line with the
'don't ask, don't tell' policy.
