..Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here on the Trails of the Internets, to mourn the passing of thebackpacker.com.....Over the years thebackpacker grew strong, prospered and gave sustenance to many initially weak, struggling backpackers and hikers; those who came to thebackpacker became strong and experienced through communion with their peers, gaining knowlege and drawing closer to god through their walks through his gardens here on this mortal coil.....

Alas, where there is life, there surely follows death; for many lives, death comes quickly, unheralded, much as a thief in the night, stealing that most precious, and departing....

Sadly, such was not the case for our dearly departed, for thebackpacker suffered greatly before its final agony was complete...parasites and demons plagued it...a huge battle was waged for it's soul, but alas, in the end, the forces of death and darkness overcame those of goodness and light, and in the wake of mighty battle left but the empty shell that once housed such a great and mighty power for good...

Yes today we meet to mourn that loss, but in our mourning we also rejoice in the true and certain knowledge that the memories of thebackpacker yet lives in the hearts and minds of those stout hearted backpackers who benifited so greatly from its existence, my its soul find peace everlasting at the right hand of Mother Nature, who is certainly ensconced in heaven... AMEN

Coincidence that it coincides with the anniversary of the death of Jesus Christ?

I was here, under different name, before the graphic interface.

Wow, where did everybody go?
I've been gone a LOOOOONG time. Thought I'd check back in, looks like things are shutting down? Has everyone migrated someplace else?

wow, an old timer I've never heard of. This place is basically broken and the owners don't really give a crap. Most TT'rs are now connecting other ways, like through facebook. There is a Trail Talk facebook page if you are interested.

Things come and go. (Anyone still remember MySpace?), but TT just seem to endure. Even in without maintenance, it seems to hang on.

Every time I see this thread, I hear that distant sound of an electronic organ ....

Then I hear those faint words ...

"Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
2 get through this thing called life

Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here 2 tell u
There's something else
The afterworld

A world of never ending happiness
U can always see the sun, day or night

So when u call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
U know the one - Dr Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby

'Cuz in this life
Things are much harder than in the afterworld
In this life
You're on your own

And if de-elevator tries 2 bring u down
Go crazy - punch a higher floor"

Just this week I attended the memorial service of Windigrrl's husband, along with four other TT'ers. Lives have changed and lifetime friendships have been established because of TT.

TT will never die. It lives on in the lives and hearts of those who have been touched because of it.
