I returned to SGL 57 this weekend to explore more of its secrets. I was not disappointed. Even though it was a cloudy, raw day- the scenery was remarkable. Incredible spruce and fir forests. Thick hemlocks and pine. Extensive barrens with caves, chasms, crevasses. The diversity of the forest was as beautiful as the terrain. I cannot wait to go back on a clear day, and to explore some more balds I missed. This is truly one of PA's secret gems. Enjoy.

“Those caves look like fun! What a beautiful area!”
“As always, very nice!”
“awesome. Wish I could have made it.
It looks like Dolly Sods up there.”
I plan to go back up soon, maybe this weekend to see some balds I missed. It is pretty impressive, has similarities to Dolly Sods. Incredible diversity. You're always invited.”
“We're going to the FL Keys for vacation, but maybe sometime this month or next I'd be up for it... soon time to get the yak out. Maybe we can find some section of the river that an hour and a half from each of us, maybe around Northumberland.”
I returned to the balds on a clear day. Had an excellent hike. Enjoy.”
