Shawnee trail OH

“Im still working on the details of this trip, so not sure of the route yet. We wanted to go somewhere a little closer than the Smokies this weekend.
We will meet there at 2pm friday and start hiking. If anyone wants to meet up with us on saturday, that may be doable! Ill update the specs soon.

There were definitely many hills to climb up and down similar to the Knobstone. As you can see in the pictures we had blaze orange on. You will see hunters there at this time of year. Also we took advantage of the showers at the park campground there after the hike.”

“Part of us (including myself) hiked the northern loop. Started at the TH parking and registration to Camp 2 for day 1, to Camp 4 for day 2, then backtracked to the middle connector (dayhike trail) and back to where we started, day 3. The rest of the group (including prosecutor) hiked the entire loop. He would be a great source for questions.

We got our water out of streams. I don't remember any of the tanks having water in them. I have read they are not a real reliable source for water. Turkey Creek was at the trailhead. The rest were stream crossings along the trail.”

That guy was from Indiana and he talked about the Knobstone...You could just feel the humidity...his camera even fogged up on him. 93 degrees is not good hiking weather, not at all.

“You dont have to convince me that hiking in 93 degrees sucks(I swore I wouldnt ever do that again after my first time,but almost exacctly a yr later..yep,doin it again,lol).He didnt mention spiders in the face though,lol.Towards the end of it,the trail looked,well,not much like a trail,lol.Maybe with less foilage like in that winter one it wont be so bad.”

Ive been hearing that campsite 6 is the nicest and Im tryin to figure a route to include that. see description below. Im thinkin we can get an earlier start too-say 12noon?


Camp 6 is reputed to being the prettiest campsite in the entire forest, so we set our sights on getting there by nightfall. The camp is located about 10 miles from the trail head and is surrounded by tall pine trees and nestled next to a babbling brook.”

I updated the trip page a few days ago with our itenarary, but it didnt save for some reason- just did it agian.


We are going to do the south loop of this trail.
We ll start at the main trailhead parking lot between 1115am and 12noon. We ll head south toward campsite 7. Friday night the goal is to camp at campsite 6 but if we fall short of that we ll camp just before it.
Then well continue hiking counterclockwise toward campsite 4 and probably camp there saturday night! Sunday we will head back toward the trailhead parking area via the middle connector trail
This south loop will probably be a little bit hilly but not as bad as the north loop. total milage will be about 25.
