I'm doing it!
This has been something of my dream trip since I first got into backpacking, and now it looks like my brother and I are gonna do a trip there this Fall...

Depending on spring flow and availability, we're looking at getting boated into Spanish Bottom, spending a week wandering the Maze, the get boated back out. We might end up renting a 4x4 and going in/out from the Maze overlook instead - we'll see...

I'm so excited

got the permits and shuttle all set up - the route is mapped and the vacation request is approved. Hell yes, this is actually happening.

You lucky blankity-blank-blank! Wish I live closer, I've always wanted to go there.

Just make sure you don't get your arm pinned by a rock and have to cut it off with a dull pocket knife....

If that movie were at all realistic, it would have been rated R at least - probably more like NC-17. You tell me that dude wouldn't have used every swear word in the book in every possible application

Three weeks and counting.

I've never wanted to do any other trip as much as this one. I am so freaking excited. I've got my books and maps sitting here and I don't go a day without looking at them...

I remember reading Ed Abbey's chapter on the Maze in "Desert Solitaire" and thinking that I *had* to get there sometime in my life. It's always been there in the back of my mind. I'm still kind of in shock that I'm gonna be doing it...

craaaap - looks like my brother is backing out of the trip, and I'm not too comfortable going solo here.

Anybody wanna go? Just show up in Moab with $50 cash and 6 days of food on October 9...

man, i'd love to. but i just burned all my pto for a month or two on 5 days in Wemenuche wilderness.

but, i wouldn't suggest solo in that area to be prudent.

the bro still doesn't know if he can make it... my wife and I are working out a backup plan in case he can't. 6 days in terra incognita would kill either her or our marriage, so we're looking at a more low-key Moab trip... a couple days of seeing the sights in Arches and Island in the Sky, then maybe a night or two in Needles...

not a bad plan B...

so we'll see

my grandma is in the process of passing away - she's on life support until my uncle can fly in... sucks

so obviously the trip's off. maybe next spring
