I'm trying hard not to see all this thru a political lens, perhaps I should try harder. Believe it or not, I can't stand much of either side, but at heart I'm a diehard realist. Rev in great times and in very bad ones, there are constant tiny upticks and downticks of tidbits of information. Any tiny positive tidbit is overblown and extrapolated by the Obama war machine, of which is in perpetual motion for the next reelection, hell-bent in fact.

OK Rev, so the past 6 months has been gangbusters in jobs growth, the best in the last 12 years in fact. You take this as positive news obviously. ALL THINGS CONSIDERED..... Rev can you read those last few words again? ........ ALL THINGS CONSIDERED ....... so the hell what?! <--- in reference to your wonderful chart and jobs numbers. Those numbers you so celebrate are a drop in the bucket, if even that. The dam is breaking above your town, and you're thrilled that Obama has scooped out a 5-gallon bucket in the effort of saving your house and your town.

And Rev, let's all pretend for just the moment that Obama's henchmen number crunchers find that their numbers go insanely positive and blow everyone away! Wouldn't that be nice? Even if that were the case ....... ALL THINGS CONSIDERED..... it's unsustainable. Period. What's to celebrate about that?

The "Silent Majority" no longer exists in America Rev, you are living proof of it's antithesis. YOU are to whom he's tickling these numbers, and he'll do so extremely successfully just until election day, then he'll no longer have to. Perhaps he's not tickling these numbers, they are mostly real numbers, but he is preaching them with a megaphone and hyping them up to his sheep, which is you. And according to most studies, what exists in America now is the not-so-very silent majority(democrat/liberal). Which means we no longer live in America, we live in a European country these days. Progressivism has succeeded at last, after all these years quietly chugging along behind the scenes, in most of our media outlets and Hollywood, and worst of all in our school systems and colleges. What the hell does progressivism mean anyhow? It might as well be Europeanism, the 2 words are completely interchangeable I'd say. It is completely accurate to state that Europeanism has succeeded in America. What's most interesting is that we've made the transition, generationS working toward it, at nearly the same time that European socialistic countries are failing. Even while we watch them fail, we Americans (you specifically Rev and your not-so-silent majority ilk) still cannot fathom that we are going over the edge after them.

It looks like (its hard to tell) you're saying that Obama is somehow manipulating the employment data, or maybe he isn't.... but he is.

I guess we'll leave that one alone.

Your contention that European socialism is failing is a false premise. What is failing is the euro. For proof one only has to look at Sweden, which declined to adopt the euro, maintains generous spending on social programs and who's economy is growing faster than any other developed nation.

Since you can't or won't explain how Obama is messing with the BLS figures, perhaps you can explain how Sweden fits your narrative.

Hey V, don't you mean "one can only look at Sweden" ?

May its because Sweden decided to stay out of the wars while profiting from both sides.

Also there's this:
" In late 1992 (September 14, Monday) the British pound began a steep decline that made it "leave" the Exchange Rate Mechanism on the Wednesday of that week. At the sametime the Swedish currency began to decline; the first reaction from the central bank was to try to keep the current fixed exchange rates in place, and they set a target for their equivalent to the federal funds rate ("marginal rate") at 500%. The bank began to sell short-term government securities in large amounts but soon realized that market forces were strong, so they lowered their target rate, and let everyone sell what they wanted to sell, and the country saw a large selling of SEK, and SEK denominated papers. Between September 1992 and February 1993 the Swedish currency "TCW" index went from 125 to 100 (20% fall), while the British currency XBP index fell from 200 to 142 (29% fall)."

"Ape is right, unsustainable. Central planning always fails.”

It's strange how the 30 years from 1950-1980 worked so well with central planning until Reagan bought out some Iranian Terrorist and the whole thing started falling apart. Lesson learned, bad actors make terrible leaders.GW Bush's drug store cowbot acting is even more proof, Poof!

Cliff that is so misguided that it's starting to not be funny anymore.

Sigh..... Rev Rev Rev, what are we going to do about you? Nothing I guess, when you are part of a voting block now so strong that nothing can be done.

So look at Sweden huh, I'll have to later, sounds interesting, I'll have to check them out and see why their socialist government works and most of Europe's is now hugely faltering, if not outright failing (I'll correct your misconception later Rev). I don't know much of anything about Sweden frankly, I think they're supposed to be extremely hi-tech, I think I recall somebody saying that GPS came from there. Didn't IKEA and ABBA wander this way from Sweden? I may have those wrong, I basically don't know squat about it.

No Rev, I wouldn't have thawt you'd made up them nice and purdy graphs .... the fact that you regurgitated them from the 'esteemed' Wall Street Journal is shocking beyond belief(insert sarcasm here). Your sentence as follows is interesting: """"""Your contention that European socialism is failing is a false premise."""""" This flowering statement is well-known among the circles of Progressive hopefuls. You might be right about Sweden, I couldn't even pretend to comment, but about mainland Europe I'll go so far as to say simply that you don't know what you're talking about. I am dearly connected to Italy by an adopted Mom and Dad in the NE. Let me put this in perspective for you: like most mainland socialistic Europeans, they would lick the toe jam out of Obama's naisty feet. EVEN THEY are fearful of the near-term issues in Italy, and MOST CERTAINLY for the long-term issues coming down the pike. The euro you say? It's but one small piece of a rather large puzzle. Rev what you contend above that I've quoted, much more likely than not, it will bear out very incorrect, possibly HUGELY so. Only time will tell us.

Strat yu sho can flatter a felluh! I'll bet Missus Strat swoons raiglerly.

Worked so well? The central planning goes back to the days after WWI and ensured it was a first act. Then they put Israel in after WWII. In the fifties they started planning out Arab countries and Iran then Korea. Following the lead of Europeans has never worked out.

Stratd00d

Lordy B, this is lawng, skip it now...............
Well I cain't say I been blowing my dough on "soakers". But lookit I prefer Fox (surprise there I guess) over the other proudly progressive networks. But on this count I don't agree (referring that Fox's talking heads saying we're getting better). Besides, your only selectively choosing a few out of the many talking heads offa Fox, so I know you're BSing. Sure enough I ain't gloom'n an doomin for next month or even next year, or even the next one. I have enough belief in this great nation that we can ride this bull a damn lawng time before it falls. But on the flipside, I have the feeling that the longer we ride this dying beast, the harder the fall is gonna be once we do drive our dix in the dirt.

Here's where we seem to be: America The Invincible strutting in a bullfighting ring, we know we are the best and we know we will ALWAYS be the best. We have bled out the bull pretty good, and in our American panache and flair for the extraordinary we have jumped onto the bleeding bull! That's where America is today, we are atop that bull riding it around, struttin' our schytte..... but eventually the bull gonna go down, and the parade will be over. When it FINALLY goes down (that same bull Wall Street cheerleads every day) it will fall atop us this time, but we in all our American Glory and Dominance, simply cannot foresee something so dumbfounding.

So..... we Americans ride around today, and starting first thing in the morning, will toot around in our fine cars and go to Walmart and buy our cheap crap made elsewhere, and buy cheap gas (yes it's cheap, yawl idiots ever been to Europe?.. buy some gas there). We gots our cheap fast food everywhere, and housing too... and government handouts galore...... And WE think it's always going to be there......

But it ain't.

WE, the American society, are so naive, vain and naive, it borders on the insane.

I'm not as political as some of yawl, but I do like to read, from both camps, you could call me a part-time political junky. I greatly look fard to riding the American political waves over the next numerous years. Prolly, with American ingenuity and awesomeness, which we do still have a little, we can ride this pipedream a half a decade for sure, but not for a whole decade, there's just no way. Americans pretend fiercely in our present way of life, it'll carry on a great deal I betchya. So what will be fun to watch play out over the next bunch of years? ..... watching the Reps duke it out and blow a whole lotta money for nothing ....... watching Obama get reelected again (duh! ...don't even pretend someone else has a chance) ..... watching him not live out his second term, obviously...... no telling the many joys of President Biden, man that'll be a hoot ...... watching the fed debt hit a gazillion or 2 ...... surely some terrorists somewhere will have figured out by then the frenzy of bombing our restaurants and malls and parades and such, and with kids to boot!..... watching the dumb schyttes on tv and here STILL debate global warming..... watching Isreal do something about Iran finally and all the hilarious shenanigans that will cause between us and China and Russia.......watching Europe nearly fall like a deck of cards, pretend that they can actually avoid it numerous times, thereby taking forever and a day do actually do it...... well hell, this could get purdy long.

I ain't even mentioned squat about the fact that we Americans live hand-to-mouth in about all of our major distribution systems: food, gas, and medicines are the serious biggies. Yaknow, we're gonna have major hick-ups come up for a variety of reasons, and they're gonna be painful, not nationally (I ain't a fatalist after all), but most certainly regionally or in pockets here and there on occasion.

So Q what do I thank of your "Fox-based stuff saying we're getting better"? Dream the dream brother, and stick it where the sun don't shine. Do the numbers, it don't add up, period. System unsustainable, period, hugely incredibly madly unsustainable! I'm already teaching my kids how not to be one of the suffering idiots in their futures.

Hopefully I'm dumber than a sack of nails. But I tell ya, if you're hungry, or your kids are, stay the f*** offa my porch.

You're right, that was awfully long. I had to drink a few cup of coffee to get through it.

Hang on; I basically quit drinking coffee a few weeks ago.

Hmmmm.

Any a way, folks have been predicting the end of the world, and this country, for many, many years. I don't pay them any mind anymore; especially from the ones who were part of the problem just a few years ago, and since their "guy" isn't in office anymore they try to wash their hands of all of the crap they supported -- crap that has facilitated the financial mess the country is in.

However bad, this is the end result of what the majority of folks wanted. Where were today's complainers back when unfair trade agreements were put in place, when China was violating Copyright laws, when it was decided that this country could cut taxes while fighting a two-front war?

I really don't watch all that much talkies, from either side of the aisle, anymore. Don't have the time. What I was pointing out to the usual suspects is that they are so narrow mined that even when their own main source of information presents data that supports a better economic outlook; they won't listen. They are so fixated on DOOM that they have no other mindset.

Frankly, I really don't care what they have to say. They have never been able to string a coherent argument together, and support it properly. Pretty much come off looking like fools; so I get a chuckle and a head shake out of it.

And yet ANOTHER sign of the economy recovering.

The number of Americans claiming new unemployment benefits dropped to a four-year low last week, offering further evidence the jobs market recovery was gaining traction.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell 5,000 to a seasonally adjusted 348,000, the lowest level since February 2008, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims rising to 354,000 last week.
