Upper Peninsula Hikers?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 6 of 6 messages posted.
Any Upper Peninsula Hikers? “I live in Marquette, Michigan. And I would like to find people interested in going on extended backpacking trips throughout the U.P. this summer. I have a good deal of backpacking experience and usually average 5 to 15 miles per day. I've hiked a few of the trails on my own already, but it would be nice to meet others to share some trips too. If you're interested let me know.” 6:44:04 PM 5/29/11 “Your looking for nonconformist. He lives up thataways.” 8:12:15 PM 5/29/11 “I do believe there's a few yooper-specific threads around here.” 9:10:42 AM 5/30/11 “Thanks, treebait, I will search more on those threads. To further this thread, however, my original post is broad. I did this on purpose to see if other backpackers might be interested in going on some extended trips before diving into the specifics. Nevertheless, I have no problem discussing the specifics for those interested taking the following trips this year: a two-week trip to Isle Royale (traversing the entire island); another to the Porcupine Mountains (approx. 40 miles or so throughout the park); and Deer Island Lake (approx. 22 miles). I also have another list of shorter treks around the U.P. that I plan to explore at some point, whether this year or next. And I would also be open to a long trip along the NCT at some point down the road. This list is tentative, of course. I am open to suggestions, as well as only meeting people for portions of a trip. In truth, I am going to do many of these trips whether I meet anyone or not. I recently moved back to the Marquette area (to work in education) and have yet to meet others that would like to go on some extended treks. Thus, over the last year, I have been embarking on solo trips, but I am hoping to possibly meet a few people to join me by creating this thread.” 10:08:40 AM 5/30/11 “...a two-week trip to Isle Royale... Hell, I'd love to be able to go anywhere for two weeks! (Summers are usually tough for us.) uphiker, my email is in my profile. Post your trips here (if you haven't already) and I'm sure some TTers will jump on board.” 7:35:38 AM 5/31/11 “Nonconformist, Thanks for the comments and tips. I'll try to post each of the trips this coming week, along with the desired routes and time frames. As you mentioned, maybe then a few people would like to jump on board after some more information has been posted.” 4:00:44 PM 6/01/11
