Bent Gate Summer Sale
Bent Gate Mountaineering in Golden CO is having their summer sale thru May 26.

Not just for locals - they ship just like EMS and REI do. These are good guys, great customer service - they USE the gear they sell and I've heard MANY stories from people who had GREAT results with customer service when boots didn't fit good or some other issue arose.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way - just passing along the good deals.

I still haven't been down there to check their store out. I need to remedy that.

you should.

buddy of mine bought telemark boots there a couple years back. wore them about half a season and always felt like they just weren't right. He went back in there for something else and the guy asked him about his boots. Hearing that Fred wasn't real happy with them, he said bring them back. Fred got a full exchange - no questions asked - he was SHOCKED - and really happy.

That's really cool! Maybe when I learn to snowboard a little better and I get ready to upgrade boots, I'll check them out.

Or, you know, when I buy another tent this summer just because. ;)

So those must be footprints, huh? Man I'm telling you, with tech advances, something like hiking the AT is a whole different world than back in '92. Newfangled gadgets that I started to see in the woods back then were hydration systems and digital cameras. On both occasions when seeing them, I thawt I gotta get me one'a those!

I'd love to see someone using that thing.

But I'm not carrying it.

Speaking of gear whores, I've been working some OT and have this baby coming in the mail:

http://sixmoondesigns.com/tents/Trekker.html

Unfortunately, I won't get it by Monday when I start a week-long trail work trip. But that's o.k. - I have lots of tents and won't need to carry one on my back this trip.

I also bought some of these to hold the new tent up:

http://gossamergear.com/trekking/lt4-trekking-poles.html

3.6 oz. trekking poles - they weigh about the same as the aluminum poles you can buy with my new tent. I've had a love/hate relationship with trekking poles. The are great to have 10% of the time, but 90% of the time I hate having them in my hands. I'm hoping these ultra-lite ones change that as I fall further into old fartness.

Gear whoring is fun. I get most of my online stuff from here, it's amazon I think, but all the good stuff is picked out.

Everything else comes from a chain we have in NZ called hunting and fishing [url]http://www.huntingandfishing.co.nz/[url]

If you want variety in NZ then you have to import pretty much. We have some really good stuff, but what's available in the US is just mind boggling.

I've been struggling with my inner gear whore. There is nothing I need, but I could upgrade almost everything. Most of my gear is at least 10 years old.

Speaking of whorish gear, I got a new headlamp. It's a Coleman LED, they have 3 models, I got the middle one, 70 lumens for $25. I used it tonight catfishing and it's great.

What do you expect to happen if you keep enabling yourself?

Repeat the anti-gear-whore mantra....

I will not go to REI today...

REI pilgrimage
Hit the local REI yesterday... Left with a set of Black Diamond Trekkin Poles...

Took me an hour to finally decide on the Alpine Carbon Cork ones, during which time I persuaded another shopper that the back pack she really needed to buy was the Osprey Ariel 65...

Next on the list, a GPS..
