12th Annual Linville Gorge Trip!

“Hey Guys, Just wanted to let you guys know I made it home round 1730. Stucky(Dan) and I ended up riding around linville, then down to marion, and back up. Anyway, finally we found a guy who would pull him out for 125.00. Ill post the number for the company because they were so awesome! It took 5 min to pull him out with a winch and there was no damage. He also talked to his wife on my cell and she let him come home.
Thanks to all who were there, I miss you guys already!”

“When someone makes threats and repeated personal attacks they get a warning. If they persist they get a short term ban (usually 1 week). If they come back promptly with a new name before the time out is over and persist in the same behavior, the new names are permanently banned and the ban on the user is extended. Eventually, when this cycle is repeated multiple times, the ban is permanent.

Since we have no direct control over when bans get put in place or lifted (we email and response times vary) we agreed that once we decided to ban a user, any attempt by them to post would be deleted when reported.

I've raised the issue of whether we should make an exception for on topic trip reports cut and pasted by a member, or for information which is important for trip planning. It is tough to impliment a regime that is both consistent and flexible enough to allow for reasonable exceptions. Then there is the issue of what exceptions are reasonable.”

“If crazygirl had just said, I talked to trubit and he said he had a great time and then went on to discuss what trubrit told her in a private conversation than that would just be crazy girl posting what she knows. That should be ok when it comes to a trip report which is a core function of this site.

“he meant there were threats previously which brought about the original banning. I totally understand that once someone is banned they shouldn't be able to post here under any name. My problem is with that persons comments to the people who went on a trip with him being deleted.”

“Well look at this way, if someone is banned from a place, or a bar, or a party or a campground for their behavior, lets just say for instance this place. Doesn't it make sense to enforce the ban of that person. If I were to post a trip report, that I did not attend, and it was from a person that was banned, it would be the same thing as the banned person making the report. Kinda, sorta of doing it by proxy. In different situations it is illegal, kinda why the Murdoff family is losing the assest the was given to them, by him.”

An Internet message board does not have to fully comply with the 1st Amendment, per se; however, an message board can get into trouble if they violate their own policy, inconsistently or in a persecute manner.

Perhaps I may be missing something, but I would guess that if Sunni posted content from Chili (like a c and p) than it looks like she would get into hot water. However, if she mentioned him it looks like she would be fine.

This brings up another interesting thing: If Chili was banned, seeing that he is married to Sunni what's to stop Chili from posting under Sunni's account? Further, let's say Chili didn't tell Sunni about using her account; but her account got banned because he did that.

“This is the very reason why moderation of a board should be under strict adherence to the policy put forth by the website owners and not made up on the fly. Policies are insulation for both the moderation staff, posters and website owners.

Manny website owners have been sued for the very thing you just mentioned.”

“LOL. To be clear, I have no problem with people getting banned, and it pisses me off to see people on temporary bans create new userids and come back with full knowledge who they are. I just don't think its a bad thing that someone reposted trip information from a banned person so that everyone going on the trip gets the information.”

NOW I understand that just anyone can "REPORT THIS MESSAGE" and the post will be deleted. Interesting, so if someone has a chubby for a certain person all he/she needs to do is report this person and it is so.
Will a list of who reported be availible? And for what cause.

If you went to bp.com forums most of us would have those yellow boxes next to our names behaving the way some of us do. BTW they delete offending posts too. This seems to be the norm for all forums from what I have seen.
