“Hey Guys, Just wanted to let you guys know I made it home round 1730. Stucky(Dan) and I ended up riding around linville, then down to marion, and back up. Anyway, finally we found a guy who would pull him out for 125.00. Ill post the number for the company because they were so awesome! It took 5 min to pull him out with a winch and there was no damage. He also talked to his wife on my cell and she let him come home.
Thanks to all who were there, I miss you guys already!”
“Tater was that Stucky's f-one-fitty that moonshine was talking about?!”
“yes it was. and i came up with stucky for a trail name.....whatcha think?”
“perfect name lol..he did the cabin trail at midnight on fri.that's pretty hardcore as well..he was a truly lucky man to find the TT camp and leave safe back to his family.”
“yeah, i stayed with him until we hit I40. Was that the truck u were talking bout moonshine?
BTW, glad to finally meet ya.”
“has anyone else posted pics?”
“Hope there's video of Stomper singing her cheetos song.and Daisy jumped in the Linville river with her pack on and was able to swim out and get back on the ice.The look on 21s face was priceless.”
“I don't get it...so I post a trip report for someone who has ridiculously banned...who ACTUALLY went on a TT trip....and my post was deleted!
I'm sorry I thought this was America and we have constitutional rights to freedom of speech and there is something about scensorship. Oh I'm sorry...I forgot this is TT and those rules don't apply.
BTW...modirators you forgot to delete the photo thread as well...!!!”
“Crazygurl, send me the tr via email to facebook and i'll at least post it on my fb picture page. that's just dumb...”
“Is is just a jealous faux moderator with smallballs.Shame yo bear!”
“wtf? now that's just asinine to delete useful, on point, posts about camping with actual trail talkers.”
“I still think emotions are involved.”
“Chili- right on
Hyway- howdy, long time! yo bear!”
“Yur onta something there Bear. My unprovoked unpersonal un-attack just got deleted.
......(hands out a tissue to some wuss)......”
“Yawl I need financial help, apr lock-in at 4.5% on home refinance....... thread being made right now.”
“I know mine were..I'm sorry for going off but it is so frustrating.”
“No prollem cg, know how you feel. Damn shame they ain't no better place to go, but there will be eventually. And there we will be able to treat trash.... like trash.”
“Hey we are all guilty of pissing someone off on here, but I would hike with any of ya, please don't take stuff said on here personally.”
“I think Tru had a bit of a melt down..he was lashing out at several people. I guess maybe he is on permanent ban? But If you get a time out, you're suppossed to stay in time out...not change your name and start posting again or have someone else post for you...I do think we have a rogue mod though that seems to be delete happy...”
“I agree Sunni...just trying to help out a good guy.”
“He brought it on himself, but deleting a trip report is pretty whacked.
WTF was the harm in CG posting his trip report. Unless, of course, it yanked somebodys chain that he could get information posted to the board.”
“Is there a name filter in use here?”
“When someone makes threats and repeated personal attacks they get a warning. If they persist they get a short term ban (usually 1 week). If they come back promptly with a new name before the time out is over and persist in the same behavior, the new names are permanently banned and the ban on the user is extended. Eventually, when this cycle is repeated multiple times, the ban is permanent.
Since we have no direct control over when bans get put in place or lifted (we email and response times vary) we agreed that once we decided to ban a user, any attempt by them to post would be deleted when reported.
I've raised the issue of whether we should make an exception for on topic trip reports cut and pasted by a member, or for information which is important for trip planning. It is tough to impliment a regime that is both consistent and flexible enough to allow for reasonable exceptions. Then there is the issue of what exceptions are reasonable.”
“If crazygirl had just said, I talked to trubit and he said he had a great time and then went on to discuss what trubrit told her in a private conversation than that would just be crazy girl posting what she knows. That should be ok when it comes to a trip report which is a core function of this site.
I can see where you would have a problem with her posting his words verbatim”
“how can u threaten someone bye just typing letters from a keyboard?who was threatened?and by who?its the internet.if there was a threat and u erase it then u who erased that threat should be liable if somone gets hurt for showing up on a hike and not knowing.this has to be changed and soon”
“he meant there were threats previously which brought about the original banning. I totally understand that once someone is banned they shouldn't be able to post here under any name. My problem is with that persons comments to the people who went on a trip with him being deleted.”
“BTW, moonshine, I don't think you'd be worried about any threats. You have calves on your calves that could kick someone's arse :)”
“Well look at this way, if someone is banned from a place, or a bar, or a party or a campground for their behavior, lets just say for instance this place. Doesn't it make sense to enforce the ban of that person. If I were to post a trip report, that I did not attend, and it was from a person that was banned, it would be the same thing as the banned person making the report. Kinda, sorta of doing it by proxy. In different situations it is illegal, kinda why the Murdoff family is losing the assest the was given to them, by him.”
“Internet stalking, intimidation, threats, bullying are considered serious enough that they are punishable by law.
I watched the whole thing and I think that Mr. Brit let it get to him.
Some of us have been there and got a few T-Shirts.
An Internet message board does not have to fully comply with the 1st Amendment, per se; however, an message board can get into trouble if they violate their own policy, inconsistently or in a persecute manner.
My suggestion is that ya let it go; life's too short, and besides, in the end ... you will loose.”
“So if Chili were banned, Sunni could never mention him?”
“Well if I had a book that was banned in the public schools, I don't think they would let you publish it in your name or as a ghost writer and the accept it.”
“This isn't a public school we're attendance is mandatory. This is a backpacker site and it was a post about a camping/hike TR and a shoutout to the folks that were there.”
“"So if Chili were banned, Sunni could never mention him?"
Perhaps I may be missing something, but I would guess that if Sunni posted content from Chili (like a c and p) than it looks like she would get into hot water. However, if she mentioned him it looks like she would be fine.
This brings up another interesting thing: If Chili was banned, seeing that he is married to Sunni what's to stop Chili from posting under Sunni's account? Further, let's say Chili didn't tell Sunni about using her account; but her account got banned because he did that.
I can see a can o'worms opening ...”
“if someone says there gonna hit moonshine over the head with a tire wrench.and that post got deleted before I saw it.then I show up at the hike not knowing anything about the threat.get hit in the head.I would think whoever deleted the thread as well as there management would be liable.and if it was aimed towards me and I didn't take it as being threateningor did I report it then its just a statement non threatening unless I say it is...lol you internet people are so so silly”
“I am not defending either side but he came back with several different names and used all but the last one to fire off with...and even then he was coy.
I did not see the fuego posts but I understand that some serious threats were made.
I am sure he got more than one warning...so just like me in my present situation the bottom line is he has no one to blame but himself.”
“This is the very reason why moderation of a board should be under strict adherence to the policy put forth by the website owners and not made up on the fly. Policies are insulation for both the moderation staff, posters and website owners.
Manny website owners have been sued for the very thing you just mentioned.”
“Well lets quit acting like school kids, then.”
“I think moonshine has a point about deleting posts etc..i'd be pissed if someone threatened me and i missed it and then was asulted on a trip.
Brit went off the deep end before it was all over, calling Fridge a thief and making alot of threats and derogatory statements about several people and the mods.
and lastly, if Chili gets me banned, he will be in biiiggggg trouble:)~”
“LOL. To be clear, I have no problem with people getting banned, and it pisses me off to see people on temporary bans create new userids and come back with full knowledge who they are. I just don't think its a bad thing that someone reposted trip information from a banned person so that everyone going on the trip gets the information.”
“I'm with ya Hyway!!!!!!!”
“I completely agree, hyway. Perhaps this unique situation will provide an opportunity for adjustments in the future.”
“I don't think there needs to be any adjustments made. A ban should be respected. And not let those who are banned find another way around it.”
“I wouldn't care about banning or deleted post if I didn't go on trips and just sit and hide behind a keyboard..deleting a post is a danger to me.I don't know what Trubrit or Onecamper said, they may have said they liked goat meat and I would take that as a threat to my goats, ill never know since those scary threatening words have been deleted.the site owner's are taking a huge risk and liability allowing any post of any kind to be deleted.I bet they stop allowing this soon.only members who are registered and signed in will be able to view and post on threads.if u aren't willing to give up your address and photo ID your not getting on.get rid of these trouble makers.a new look is coming”
“What the hell is going on here??? What have I missed by not stopping by my own thread???Please update me!!”
“LOL spam, your thread has turned into a debate about banning because crazygurl posted a trip report by trubrit and it was deleted.”
“and they banned onecamper and never gave him a warning or told him why.and a banned person can't even apologize if they choose to do so..alsoe instead of deleting a post u would think it would be more embarrassing to the poster to leave it up so we all can see and judge for ourselves.I don't want some outsourced mod judging for me.”
“AMEN, Nekid ape!
NOW I understand that just anyone can "REPORT THIS MESSAGE" and the post will be deleted. Interesting, so if someone has a chubby for a certain person all he/she needs to do is report this person and it is so.
Will a list of who reported be availible? And for what cause.
Some how there needs to be some type of public continuity to warn us that someone is gonna hijack us with a monkey upon arival to camp? YO BEAR! Drop moderation!”
“I suggest that those with issues about how and who is moderating go here and issue a complaint:
Explicitly explain the issue, fully describing the issue and use specific names and breaches of policy.
Further, discuss it amongst the electronic places you patron and spread the word.
“You guys seem to forget that Matt banned people for unruly behavior. When he did you guys toed the line!
If you went to bp.com forums most of us would have those yellow boxes next to our names behaving the way some of us do. BTW they delete offending posts too. This seems to be the norm for all forums from what I have seen.
Ask Spirit Coyote or Prosecutor about the other side.”
