Sure do. 11 years in Education and married to an educator that has worked in schools for over 18 years.

Generally, the charter school system (for profit schools) do not provide a better education than public; per the charter schools information. Plus, charters can shut down in the middle of the school year without notice for a variaty of reasons. Edison went belly up not too long ago; when that happened the Edison school that sapped a bunch of kids from our local public district where without a place of education right at the last 2 months of the school year.

Don't be sad for my kids. They get a top notch public education. They are growing academically very nicely. They would never set foot in a charter.

We've talked with more than a few charter teachers and what they have told us is nothing short of disappointing. Too much focus on keeping stats and not on education. Working conditions are not as good as public ed, even with Big Dick screwing us.

You see, when you have to please shareholders instead of the citizenry, children will suffer.

My 3 go to a charter school, most definitely not a for-profit outfit! We are funded, same as public school, well similarly anyhow, because we are a public school. We just write our own bi-laws. We pick the learning style, how heavy we want each subject groupings, many things.

You did bring up a good point of a problem we do have, we are not a stable entity.

Something we HAVE to curtail .... monitor closely and secretly curtail, is admissions for retarded kids. Being a public school, we cannot turn away an entrant. Naturally we're an attractant for hyper hypos and Ridelin junkies, of which we handle extremely well, in fact mainstreaming them in no time (well, our version of mainstreaming). We get the gothics, and the disturbingly unusual ones too, some of which are kept a file and eventually ejected .... we at least do have that capability, where-as our public schools don't. Simply put, we don't get the state funds that normal, larger schools get to handle and hire staff for the retards, the difficult ones anyhow. We HAVE to demonstrate a fair lottery system for those many kids awaiting for our nine grades. A cute kid in Kindergarden this past year will never incorporate himself into the larger scheme of things, must have adult supervision every second while at school, and most certainly a frequent disturbance for all of our lower grade activities. We at the school must do more to influence this fair lottery activity, I'm sad to say, to protect future viability. Next year another kid who is severely mentally handicapped awaits his lotto too, as does his desperate Mom. I feel for the Mom, she wants what's best for her son, which is most definitely NOT public school, but I feel for our school more than I feel for that protective Mom. The second boy will be a greater burden than what our school can provide, period. In four weeks I'll choose the lesser of the 2 difficulties.

Q this very scenario is playing out in 3 Flarda charter schools, all 3 of which will likely have to close it's doors, than meet the required demands of the inclusionary laws.

Politically, we differ on quite simple terms: You hate the Right, Love the Left "Obama in a landslide"; I hate the Left, Hate the Right "It won't matter". In a nutshell this is where you and I stand.

But most ppl that are choosing 1 side over the other are nothing but fooling themselves into a little bit more time of pretending and hoping eventual stabilization.
